The CivFanatics Fortress

Strider has been having problems with his computer, but he said this in the chat:

<Strider> Save will be played tomorrow one way or the other though. I'll just have to use the girls computer to play the save.

We need someone else to take the game. Hitti-Litti?

Nah. Not currently interested. Now I'm keen on playing FM07 and torrenti... getting The Movies legally.

Would it be ok if i picked this up?

Sorry, took me some time to get up with this.

Well, I didnt play for long. Set up magma forges, dug a barracks, a additional food storage and some more housing. Additionally the current noble requirements were served. (Note to former ruler: The armor and weapon racks for the nobles should just be placed inside a noble room. You must not assign them or create a room with them!). Some kobolds thiefs attacked and were slain, some immigrants arrived, including three soldeirs. Oi! And we created the wonderful Fireybust the Cold Fat of Lizards! A platium scepter!

I wanted to upload a map to http://mkv25.net/dfma/index.php , but I need some NET framework to get the compressor working and the java version needs my tile settings which i sadly dont know. Perhaps the next ruler could give it a try.

____

Uhm.. how did you guys upload the save?

Ah, so that's why they never seemed to recgnize the weapon racks! Thanks.
You did a lot really, I hadn't reached the magma and I hadn't found iron. Goodwork.

To upload a save, put the contents of the save folder into a .rar file (or winzip if you don't have winrar) and upload it. Since it'll be several megabytes, use a site like Megaupload to uplaod it.

I have some personal server space, so if you mail it to me I'll upload it for you.

Arakonul "Shaftmirrored" , Early Summer 1055

I have played through spring, got a broker and a mayor and housed then at once. All nobles are more or less satisfied. Some of the immigrants still need a room, but that lazy lot can sleep in the barracks if they complain.

A large hord of mandrills attacked. Our dogs gave battle and we won with some casulties. A new animal trainer has been assigned to train our stray dog mob into a dangerous war dog army!

The fortress guard has been created. The first victim was the usless fisherdwarf who is lazying around for atleast two seasons with a broken arm. Coward!

As we have been attacked by kobolds again, I have the dire feeling that an true invasion is close at hand! Therefore the front entrance has been trapped and a mighty tunnel has been dug at the very bottom of the map, which will soon channel magma wherever we need it. First destination should be the chasm.

(I'm still not sure if you can use stone for magma flood gates and aquaducts. One of my floodgates got destroyed, but the wiki claims that a magma man is to blame..)

And yeah - Somebody vommited at our outside road! I blame the qualitiy of our alkohol. Therefore my most important deed was the creation of a dedicated brewer. What have the former rulers been thinking??

I think we need steel floodgates and steel acqueduct to channel magma over the chasm. Do we want to kill the chasm? Our bonecrafters could use the inexhaustible bone supply :). Would building vast bridges on both sides of the current bridge over the chasm prevent the dwarves falling into it?

There's no rush except maybe for more traps to repel the possible assault.

And whose turn it is?

It's Rhein's turn, but I'd like to request to take it because I don't really have any other game to play that I am not tired of for the next few days, so this is the best tiem for me to play it.

You can have it. I'm a bit busy ATM so I don't mind.

I've gotten to late summer, added more rooms, went after a bunch of lime stone for pig iron and ma trying to get steel production going. THe 2nd aquaduct is also not cooperating, it's hardly being worked on at all. One carpenter was throwing tantrums for a month, even once locked up. Gave him a bed and a stature in there and he's calmed down (except when the giant rats swarmed into his cell, he was really ticked off by that). Even though I have a lot of dwarves it still takes a long time for things to get done, especialy as I've had to turn off a lot of hauling options I fonud that some dwarves still had on that shouldn't.

I guess the magma tunnel takes a lot of time, especially if some loldwarfs decide that they really really need that stone lying around there for their jobs.

Maybe you could tell them to carry water and food in the backpack. Does it even work with non military personnel?

I don't think so.

Which reminds me, I need to get our troops to do that.

Currently I have the axemen on the other side of the chasm, the marksmen next to the front gate barracks in the side archer gallery, and I don't remember where I put the swordsman, but near one of the two bridges.

I went through the craftdwarves and mason's job list and specialized them a bit more. Though there are a couple of miner/stone engraver dwarves still who will help out with digging if it's to the left of the engraving.

I am STILL trying to get someone to make my dwarf a green glass throne.

Also, where do you find out about mandates?

And, one of our jewelers needs some kind of wood, some kind of leather (as such I'm going to make sure I have one or two dedicated tanners/leather workers, and a block of some kind. I should check his profile, but I think he's going to go insane. He's doesn't seem to want any of the wood we have.

EDIT: Lol, found this on the wiki,

http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/images/5/50/Elephantsteam.png
The world is flooded with water, then with magma in an effort to reduce the elephant population. This may be considered rather extreme.

Also, we can use stone.

Okay, so Cog the jeweler went berzerk and killed a few dogs and puppies but was taken down by the fortress guard in Dining Room.

I've got the Marksdwarves in the forest outside (across the river and south-west of the main entrance) protecting our woodcutters from elephants (like a dozen showed up). There's also some cancals which will need to be filled with magma and the littile tunnel by it will be filled with traps (so as to force enemies to go through that tunnel). Although that is LOOOOONG ways away.

I had to end it early, my comptuer randomly restarted and seems to be acting a bit odd right now. So I'll be finishing my turn Friday.
Posting it here for easy access as I will be on a different comp (and house) friday.
