The Classic Maya 2016-10-05

just d/loaded v.8. Will let you know how it goes. Here are more tech icons - a new one for corvee and another of my aztec icons. This one I used for warrior training. Maybe it might do for warrior cult

It struck me the other day that sinking little mines complete with little ore wains all over the place doesn't seem a very Mesoamerican thing to do. To start with, wains are of limited use when you don't have wheels.

So, I was thinking to use the little hutlets from the Rood and Dragon instead, if nobody has a better suggestion. If I feel really ambitious, I may even take the trouble to rename them into hamlets.

Also, I wonder if anyone can think of a fitting set of fortress gfx. Set and set - a single one would be enough, since it could be used for all eras, and barricades are disabed anyway.

I have a fortress graphic I'm using in Aztec. I'll get it to you later. Today is my first day working from home so i can't do it right now ;)

Here's a screenie with the hutlets for mines:

nice one man
great mod/Scn
keep it up!
only request is to lengthen the scenario (but thats prob cos i always want to play 1000 turns)
nice

You could just make the techs more expensive but is there really a lot of people going to want to play 1000 turns?
I'm playing as Calakmul now. I'm not going to win because of Tikal, of course. i've been at war with them twice - the first time their warriors just kept bouncing of my militias until they sued for peace and I got much gold from them. The second time, however, was very different. For some reason their sajals and some warriors to were able to kill my sajals through the palisades of my cities! I lost both armies this way and just about avoided losing any cities. By the time peace was made, Piedras negras had been on a killing spree and were miles ahead in victory points.
One strange thing - Divine Monarchy seems to be a worse government than Dynasticism. Is this intentional? Because of unit support differences, I went from breaking even to -20 gpt. It destroyed my research so i changed back again. Where's the advantage?

Advantages of Divine Monarchy over Dynasticism:
Less corruption
More draft and MP
Money rush instead of pop rush
Better spies
No standard tile penalty (this is big!)
Higher assmilation chance

Unit support is 4/4/4 for Dynasticism, and 2/4/8 for Divine Monarchy. Since you won't have many metropoleis in this scenario, Dynasticism is superior on this point, but it should be more than compensated by the advantages listed above, unless you've got a large army and many very small towns.

Dynasticism and Divine Monarchy are much like Vanilla Despotism and Monarchy, while Aristocracy is much like Republic.

I could make techs more expensive, but don't feel like it after slashing the cost of early techs after people complained the early game was too slow.

The AI tends to do poorly with Calakmul, for some reason, but it's very possible for a human player to beat up Tikal with them. Try and ally with Caracol and/or Piedras Negras against them.

One weakness with Calakmul is that at start, their only road connections to anywhere are via Tikal. Getting a road to Caracol, and a harbour up at either coast, are good investments.

No, I haven't. I wasn't in fact aware that Maya slaves used to wear black and white stripes - do you have a picture?

You're quite right the current captured worker gfx are not exactly ideal, in any case.

I havn't found any pictures on 15+pages on google, but I did get the fact that the Mayans painted their slaves black-and-white from kids book I read once...(religiously ;))

You've been very attentive wrt upgrades so far TLC. So I don't see why you need to feel bad about working slowly. :)

Sorry Trai, I've decided I don't like your colony and fortress graphics enough, so I'm attempting my one. Y'all can see a new colony in the works below (please don't point out that the fireplace is in the sea!):
