Hello everyone, welcome to my second story The Conquest of Justinian: The Tale of Byzantium, note that i've never actually set through a single game of rfc or any of it's mod mods, the farthest ive gotten in one is an arab game where i conquered europe, north africa, and Mesopotamia, but rage quit 1 turn after the seljuk spawn.
But i will sit through this one, even if My death is imminent, anyhoo let's get started

For nearly a millenia, the roman empire ruled the known world, but civil wars had become commonplace in the later centuries of it rule, with the empire splitting, After the emperor Constantine had conquered the eastern roman empire, his ruled prospered, but on his deathbed, he had 3 request, to be baptized into the catholic faith, to have the empire split in two, and to have the eastern empire, in case of western roman collapse, lead civilization out of any dark dark ages, to the light. Then, The Greatest Roman Emperor of them all, slipped into the void, and ascended to the holy realm of heaven, to be a leader among even the angels of god.
And so a great empire had begun...

"Constantius!" said a young boy, around the age of 1,
"Yes mahmyboiboy?" asked Constanius, the second byzantine emperor, after Constantine
"Are you going to beat those Achaemenid scum, mother said that your leading the legions today?"
"Why yes, I need to assert my political influence, so leading the men will be needed" said a rather glum Constanius
"Alright father, see you at dinner!"
Little did he know that his father would suffer a wound in this battle that would cause unbearable pain to Constanius II until his death in 361 A.D.

Years later, Constanius's son, Constans I, would lead troops in independent eygpt, in order to gain land, it would later be realized it was useless to keep.

Constatans I war journal - "It was a bloody battle, our legion, consisting of only 4000 men, 2000 to little, marched on the town of Thebes, we won the battle against the Aegyption Axemen, but only barley."
25m8.jpg

This legion would die in a later battle ,that Constans would not fight in, against thebes.
Roman Equestrian Units were making an entrance onto the field at this time, these would one day return in a cartoon called "My Little Legion:Conquest is Magic", this cartoon and their fans "Bronies" would one day control the empire(:mischief:)

On other fronts, attacks were being made on other targets, towns being crushed under the boots of the legions

Suddenly, persia capitulated to western rome, the byzantines decided in following years, to take down the 2 strongest empires in the world.

"We decided to march on roman babylon, as our legions, each containing 6000 men for a grand total of 24000 legionaires, marched on the city, the battle was over by sundown, and the city was byzantine! We had knocked rome down a notch, know it was time for italia..."Quote Marc Antony's book "My Gift to Cleo, Babylon, the City of Baby Making :mischief:"

tzim.jpg

As the navy readied to invade itailia, western Rome's navy took them head on, and beat them using a byzantine invention, the dromon, a galley utilizing Greek fire.

xdzx.jpg

in 590 A.D., the first Byzantine cataphracts invaded persia...

b1oz.jpg

"As the year 600 A.D. came to a close, the naval loses from ten years ago caused the Trireme Coup, which collapsed the roman empire, which opened up a great byzantine opportunity..."-A line from Justinian I's Book The Conquest of Italia and Rise of The Byzantine Imperium

0lat.jpg

In the same year, a byzantine Calvary charged was done, the Cataphract would see it first battle, and it would be victorious!

vi55.jpg

and they charged again, and won again, proving that byzantine calvary was Superior
c3yi.jpg

As a new arab nation rose, the Byzantines needed a buffer and peace, so they gave persia some land to hold of arabia, this would prove an ever greater idea in the Seljuk invasion of Mesopotamia later on.
hfe6.jpg

The byzantine calvary charge on Northern Italy was a huge success, and it was one of justinian's first battles (note: justinian is the great general unit in the right side of the screen)

geeu.jpg

As the byzantine armies mobilized, they planned to capture rome and create a European empire, that would one day rule the world (or fail horribly, i don't know yet :D)
mjtx.jpg

The charge of roma was a success, the byzantines now controlled the eternal city itself.

"Soldiers usally win battles and generals usally get the credit for them"- Justinian I, after the battle of neapolis (Napoleon copied HIM:mischief:!)

zc3j.jpg

heres my civics

x2uy.jpg

"We have done well" said justinian while looking at a map of his empire "But there is more expansion to be done, we must regain the holy land!"
and so another couple of centuries of intrigue was to come...

Aww, you must be still playing Mercenary version. New DoC version contains no merc...

Gifting cities must of hurt your stability... What was the point of conquering them then? You would end up getting stability hits both upon city capture (unhapy occupation) and when trading stuff away...

i like mercenaries... and im the byzantines, so stability with a mainly core empire is not important, but thanks for pointing that out,i probably need to check that

Welcome back everyone, Here comes Chapter 2:The Holy Land(Question, does italy spawn if rome is gone, or if the Italian peninsula is still independent states?)

In the year 730 A.D., The Eternal Emperor Justinian (IF i lose the great general then basil ascends to the throne) decided to hire elephant mercenaries from Arabia and Sicily. He also took use of the slave population in Constantinople to hurry the production of a heavy swordsmen legion, which was the same as a legion pretty much. 6000 men all in formation, had to get shield and blade, many think 2000 slaves died from either heat stroke or the whip in this gruel scenario.

The Byzantines in that same year met the Emirate of Cordoba, it was currently islamic but it would turn catholic very soon, and make a good ally.

"The battle of Ankyra will forever be remembered as the turning point in byzantine domination, with a camel archer raiding party in sight, a group of spearmen committed suicide trying to kill it." - The native american writer Rainbow Dash (:mischief:) in his book The History of East and West Rome

Justinain Vs. Attila

God... Epic battle scene coming on!
Justinian:As we charged the horses of the hunnic empire we saw their courage but we were the true ones... WE ARE THE CUTIE MARK BYZANTINE CRUSADERS, AND WE WILL NEVER STOP THE JOURNEY, NOT UNTIL WE HAVE THE HOLY LAND!

Attila:...no comment...and you talk in history book format some times justinian, did you know that? And what is the holy land? this is the balkans!

Justinian: oh i was thinking out loud.

Attila: if your gonna use pony talk with me you need to go see Genghis, he likes ponies too.

Justinian: Pfft, Genghis hasn't been born yet

Attila: ORLY

Justinian: But don't you like ponies?

Attila: No, i like battering rams!

Justinian: Oh...

Smash the arabs, and burn down their cities. Then let your stability recover, then go kill france.
Good writing by the way. I look forward to more updates.

smash the arabs... i'll let the seljuks do that, plus the arabian peninsula is a crappy spot, but there's still one big question, italy! what triggers their spawn? and i want to control europe , minus poland and iberia, and have new world colonies, but the rest can be vassals, and i'm going to try to smash the turks on their spawn if possible.

oh i promise i will  FOR BYZANTIUM!

after doing some research on the rfc forums, i now know that half of the cities on the italian peninsula have to be independent for italy to spawn, so i should be ok on that front, let's hope i can fend of a weakened by persia seljuk army when it gets to me...

One time, I lost a 99.7% battle. then again, my privateers had been crushing caravels on >90% odds consistently, so I kind of deserved it.

Also, the Seljuks will get stacks outside of Ankyra and Jerusalem, so you might want to be prepared for that...

All in all great Byzantine story! Keep up the good work!

guys i has a problem, i was playing teh game a second ago, when the newly conquered paris declared independence, i checked and i'm at -44 stability, any tips for getting it back up? i'm to scared to click next turn, i did conquer paris back though, oh and in the french conquest, an archer killed an injured justinian, so it's basil time!

edit: paris and bordeux, now Lutetia Parisiorium and Burdigala, are still in resistance btw

does anybody have any ideas on increasing my stability? i clicked next turn, and i'm at -39 percent and getting better, but when i clicked next turn again civil war happened, luckily the autosave gods granted me mercy with the autosave being a turn before the civil war, does anybody have any ideas?

Well, I have learned from more experienced DoC players is that when you conquer another civ's core area, you only want to keep one city and you should burn the rest. It eliminates overlap, extra stability in the long run, and those civs can't respawn if they only have one city in their core.

Anyway, you probably will want to move all of your troops into your core area, because fortunately for you, the Byzantine UP prevents your core area from collapsing. This means you will get to keep Greece and Turkey.

Also, Theodora was a dancer, actress, and she also worked at a brothel in her younger years...

in this story she also was a librarian too :D

oh and i just did some modding to allow the stability cheat to work in DoC :mischief: we'll say for story purposes that god blessed the byzantine emperors the ability to keep the public quiet

Tsk, tsk, tsk... Then again, I never have to worry about stability in my OCCs...

don't judge me for cheating, judge theodora, she once worked in a brothel

um... i sort've screwed up when i modded doc, by mess up i mean it didn't let other civs spawn, so now i have to restart, i would restart from one of my saves, but i don't want an unstable empire, so this will be restarted from the beginning tomorrow, after an update on my india story

Yours truly, Moai_Spammer the Equestrian Cataphract

FYI, it's a little late, but "The Conquest of Justinian"
sounds like it's Justinian who is being conquered (in a very unflaterring way) rather than him doing the conquering.

yeah... i noticed that the moment i posted the thread, is their any way to change the title?
