The Conquest Training Game

OK, i have it. Let me try the next 10 turns.
But first we have to make a decission about our way throu the techs.
Military or Philosophic? I think military bacause of the small landmass and the strong AI's. We should search for Ironworking and then go drectly to monarchy. We need a few forces and this cost us much money.
Today afternoon i try to post a screenshot who shows us an possibillity on which tiles we can place our citys.

I think we should go for IW. For two reasons, like Detlef said small land mass and Babylon is usually pretty agressive. And very close. Take a look at Berrern's plots and I think we should go with plot #1. Would be easy to irrigate quickly and would have the forest/game to work with there. Maybe a 3/7 RCP would be better instead of 3/6. Because that would put 5,6, and 7 on the river. Also gives #8 2 cows to work with.
Also, I could be wrong but I think #4 is maybe one tile out too far.

OK, after looking into the game, here are my thoughts:

- we have only a small place for expantion
- after a look into demographic screen, we can see that Athen and Babylon have only size 1. This could mean they can't grow as fast as we or they have just build theire first settlers. And the tiles around Babylon vote for the second reason.

 Hmmm, i tried to upload some Images but it doesn't work. I try it later again.

I've changed the tech to wheel because the tiles around our home shows us bad chances for iron. (No mountains, only a few hills)
We can fight with chariots as well.

After three turns Ur was founded. It was a chock, they build it to the S the direction of our capitol.

  I tried the attachements again but it seems that i have no luck today. It doesn't work. I try it tomorrow.

But this means we have to think again about our situation. :dubious:

2. Upload the file to the server using the Upload FIle link a the boittom of every page.

3. Click on View New Server7 listing in teh acknowledgement screen

4. Right click the file link for the file you have just uploaded and Copy the shortcut.

5. Put "[ img ] link [ /img ]" tags into your post where you want the image file to be displayed. Leave out the spaces that I have inserted here to disable the tags and paste the shortcut you copied in place of the "link".

I've tryed it again after your very good description but after a few seconds uploading, i've got the failure "Server not found" and nothing worked.

I have downloaded files and uploaded GOTMS so i hope it's not a failure from my desk.

Hmmmm

I've tried the attachment manager at it works two of three times (means i have uploaded 2 files and third brings me the same failure again)

It seems that i just found the tech mysticism :crazyeye:

OK, this are the two attachments from my first post.

I don't give up for the third attachment.

Just popping in to see how you are all going! If you're wondering about me, me deck is all but complete! :D

Re tech: The wheel would be useful for seeing if we have horsies for an early war. Longer-term goal should be either a beeline for republic or for monarchy. I think that decision can be deferred for a short time.

Immediate goal: Get a granary and get a settler. One key thing is that you should always try and complete the granary before the city grows in size. I think that for Beijing, this would mean working the plains and sacrificing a lot of growth. Does someone want to work-out how long it would take to grow to size 5 with:

a.) Carrying on as-is (noting that when we grow to size 3, the food box will empty).
b.) Holding back growth to complete granary before growing to size 3. In this case, when we add third citizen, box will only go to half-full.

I think that the first option is probably best, but its worth doing the exercise. :)

I've tried and tried and tried and tried and tried ........but i changed nothing.
It looks lika a random-function which Thunderfall builds in. :dubious:

It is really hard to see, but I think I see the coast line going west from babylon. and it looks like jungle on either side to the north of them. Which may be the reason that they decided to get Ur on the river down near us. So, I think we need to get a couple of cities pretty quick, cause we may have a conflict of interest here on our hands. :ar15: So far I haven't changed my mind what I think we should do with city #2. Think the best place is still plot 1.

... or your ISP? :hmm:

Just wanted to check the status of the roster. So far this is what I have:
1) Berrern, 2) Mauer (me), and 3) Detlef. Then 4) Friendly Fire? and who else. Just would like to clear this up, so maybe we can get this moving a little more efficiently. I know Ainwood is painstakingly at work to finish off GOTM 32 for all of us cretons, So I don't expect more than a "I owe you guys a visit once a day". At least for a couple of days anyways. So is there anybody else or does that cover it

Hey don't forget little old me!
I am still here but haven't had much interesting to say for a while. When are we going to explore down to the SE?

EDIT: If one of you guys could post a screen shot of the city view then we can do Ainwood's calculation thingy for the granary, I reckon that working the plains for a few turns should make "growth/production complete" even out so that the granary will be built the turn before we grow. But without knowing how much food is stored and which tiles we are working it is only a guess.

Ok after much head scratching I agree with Ainwood, it is better to leave the citizens as they are and build the granary after growth.

1. If we leave the citizens where they are we will grow in 2 turns and emphasise production will give us a bonus 2food and 2shields from the 3rd game tile.
We will complete the granary on turn4/5 (think it's 4) and will have 6 food stored meaning only 2 turns till growth as the granary halves the surplus food requirement to 10food.

2. If we attempt to slow down growth we also slow down production as our best shield tiles are also our best food tiles. I have calculated how long it would take to grow*2 for this scenario and it is 12 turns compared to 6/7 turns if we don't work the plains. Clearly this gain in growth offsets the bad timing of getting a granary after we have grown (and thus have an empty food bin!)
I have assumed that production comes before growth in the city cycle, if it is the other way round I'll have to have a recalc!
We are lucky to have 3 game tiles as with 3 citizens we have +2food,7shields and 6 commerce per turn. This means a settler can be built in 5 turns at size 3.
We don't have all the requirements for a settler factory though, as our food surplus is not high enough. If we chopped and irrigated one of the grassland game/forest tiles then we would have +4food per turn but only +5 shields per turn at size 3.

I used the following spreadsheet to calculate the above, I made it myself so if anyone spots any errors please let me know. It came fron [civ3]1.29 civilopedia.

Hmmm, sounds gut to me mabellino.
We gonne loose too much time if we stop growing.
It takes 8 turns to irigate the first innercity-tile and then it looks better for us.
So, i go on with exploration and irrigation.

I've played my 10 turns and thats how our morld looks like:

detleftraininggame8.JPG

detleftraininggame9.JPG

and some hot spots:

3100: Ur was build by Babylonia

3050: we trade Ceremonial Burial against Pottery and 12g

3000: Bejing growth to 3 / our Granary need 2 turns to finish

2950: lux 10% / sience 90%

2850: granary is ready / new build is settler

Our worker irrigates the first innercity-tile and the warriors explore NW and NE

Now FriendlyFire its your time:
