"The DaVinci Code" actor calls for a disclaimer...

I love how people get offended when their own arguments are used against them. GG Ian on reversing the argument.

Hopefully one day a time will come when people will not call for such idiotic disclaimers at all. If the Bible is true I'm sure it can defend itself well without disclaimers being put on crappy Hollywood movies.

What a joke: "the word of God" vs. "Hollywood movie". The big knockout of the year 2006....

I don't think he knows the meaning of fiction. Fiction means it's false, not that it takes a leap of faith to believe it. What a ******.

If something is false - it would take a leap of faith to believe it.

But because it takes a leap of faith to believe it doesn't make it false. ;)

No, see many of the facts in the books have been proven wrong. There's no faith or no faith about it. If I say the chair is not blue and its blue, then I'm just wrong, there's no faith involved.

However, to assume divine intervention to make a person part the Red Sea takes faith to believe. Were any of you there to say it didn't happen?

Then problem with you Aethists is that you say "Man cannot do Such" and rule out any possibility of a God. Of course "Man cannot do this" but we believe in a God, and with God all things are possible.

Ian McKellen's opinions dont hold weight to me because I myself and other Christians believe that the bible is true while "The DaVinci Code" is a bunch of heritical garbage.

I actualy find that image quite offensive :nono:

That's alright, many of us finds many parts of that book at least equally offensive.

I was making a statement on labeling the Bible with a warning sticker that I find offensive. I dont find the content of the Holy Bible offensive.

It also doesn't make it true :)

That doesn't even make sense.

And a lot of Muslims believe that the Christian NT is heretical.

It's all relative I say - mandated "Warnng: This is fiction" labels are a ridiculous idea.

Who said you were part of the "us" in my quote?

Hillarious, another reason to like Ian McKellan as well as the fact that he plays Gandalf and Magneto superbly.
Quoted for truth.
Go Ian go!

I just read Ian McKellan's biography on his web site. Nothing there leads me to believe he is any sort of expert on the Bible.

As a private citizen, he is perfectly welcome to express his opinion, just like anyone else is. If people want to think that his opinion is somehow more valid than any other random person's, that is their right as well.

While I don't find the content anymore offensive than that of any other work of fiction, I do find it extremely offensive that you expect me to believe any of that tripe. To suggest that I am so foolish that I would believe a work of literature which goes directly against everything I have ever experienced without the slightest bit of empirical evidence to support it is perhaps the most insulting thing I've ever heard.

Well done, Sir Ian! most in this world don't have the guts for a public statement like that.

I thought it was against all that!
Not according to the Crusaders!

The Crusades were corrupt, there is no doubt in my mind about that. But the Bible never advocated many of the things in the warning label.

Well, you can take the sticker off just as the schoolkids in Kansa probably do.

Incest - Lot and his daughters, Abraham marrying his daughter

"And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife."
Genesis 20:11-12

That's just oen example. The sticker itself says it contains verses "descriptive or advocating"

Its quite simple, you guys can't really fathom the idea of a God. You assume none of the miracles can happen because you already assume there is no God. We can't be certain 100% if there's a God or Not. But if he exists, then all those mircales are quite possible.

I can easily fathom the idea of God. That still wouldn't prove the existence of one. And miracles, they can happen with or without a God. Of course, what looks like a miracle to me and you could be advanced science to let's say, ALIENS.
