The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Don't worry, your game is fine.

The contact is trying to get to you, probably from another city. He will use telepathy to home on you - no matter where you are. But sometimes he will refuse to go inside a certain city/area, so no matter how long you wait inside, he won't appear.

So just go on and do other things. Eventually he will come to you.

If you have no other thing to do, try to wait in another city/area.

He was there - just didn't give me the new task...

At anyrate, I put all of my saves into an archived folder, and started a new character - Breton I think. A Stealth Battlemage. Gonna have fun with enchanting items and such.

The housing textures seem to be:

Poor - cheap/rotting wood.
Lower Class - Wood.
Middle Class - Stone (including the cottages).
Upper Class - Marble/decorated stone and plaster.

Kind of, it really depends on the city though. I would use farmhouse 3 but I don't really want a thatch roof.

The search continues :ninja:

I'm pretty sure there's some way to add your own textures. (Animations atleast are stored as NIF files, so I wonder if textures are done the same way as Civ4).

Oh yeah, you can add textures, I know how to. It requires making a new object but you can just use existing meshes (I think that's the right one). Exept for the fact I have no idea how to maek textures and it would take me months to learn howto and also practice practice practice trying to make it look good.

I'll look around for mods with cabins and peek into the modding community sometime.

EDIT: I think I'll go with chorrol.

Story:

A knight (or someone) who became a war hero but could not enjoy the peace afterwards (like Lawrence of Arabia) retired to his newly built cottage, he died and was buried at the shrine. There was a herbalist hermit who lived there, think Merlin from Mary Stewart's The Hollow Hills but with some basic healing magic instead of whatever Merlin has (when his god gives it to him) and without the whole Arthur thing. It was also used as a hunting lodge before the herbalist came along (Iamnot sure if he bought the place or rented or just made a deal or soemthing) anyways, it's been vacant for a couple of years and up for sale.

If you can export old textures and use them as templates it shouldn't be too difficult.

I mean you could rip the original textures of a model and draw new ones on top of the originals. That way they should fit OK. I did that when I retextured quake models back when.

the only editing program I have is PAINT.

Now THIS what we have here IS a problem.

So, how bout them Screenshots, eh? :mischief:

You don't want to see my screenshots. I've got my graphics set so low you would risk damaging your eyes.

I'm not sure if this has been touched upon previously in this thread, but seeing as it is 56 pages long now, I don't care to go through it myself.

I'm trying to do some slight graphical mods to Oblivion to make it look better and perform better as well (mostly suggestions on Gamespot), but I am unable to find the files I need to do this stuff. When I open the "Data" folder--either in the Program Files folder or the My Documents folder--I can't find a lot of the files that should be there. Anybody happen to know why? The game works fine for me, so it's not like I'm missing files or anything.

The other issue is that some lines mentioned in the Gamespot article are simply not in my Ini file. Again, anybody happen to know why?

I've tried searching for some answers elsewhere, but I have been unsuccessful to this point. Thanks in advance for any help.

For those who are interested, here is a link to the Gamespot article I mentioned: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6148788/index.html

I think they are compressed in the big bsa files.
You don't replace files. You create new files, place them in the data folder, and then you may have to use archive invalidation to tell oblivion not to load the files in the bsa, and use yours instead.

I'd have screenshots in this thread by now, but I'm using Bloom + AA which sadly doesn't allow the in-game screenshot mechanism to work. So, I'll have to download fraps or something along those lines to get a screenshot.

Speaking of the archive invalidation file, does anyone have one I could use? The patch deleted mine and everything except map colouring mods work though.

Yeah, the game must check the folders on the hard drive first and use those textures/whatevers instead of the ones on the CD.

While I don't think that's good for the CD it makes it WAY easier when deleting a mod.

Is there any way I can recharge a weopon?

Go to the mage guild with plenty of gold, and fight the guy who can recharge weapons

Varla stones, a filled Azura's Star, or filled soul gems.

There's usually one person per mage's guild that can recharge your enchanted weapons as well.

As promised, picture of my new ultra light armor
I'm ready to go fight the gray prince!

The armor doesn't protect to much, so it doesn't unbalanced the game, but there's a good point, the weight! Very nice for a stealthy character who want to carry more loot. There is two enchanted versions, but I can't afford it...

Keep in mind I'm using a GeForce 4200 ti, so the graphics are poor compared to what they should be :(
