The Forest

B may be right, but I do not always make the right choice.

D.

F is the fitting answer

C is the only reasonable choice.

August sets up the candles. He tries to clean them of the dust that has collected over the last few years. Even when lit they burn grey. Everything here is grey now - the colours sucked out by fire and death. He says a simple prayer to the Jovial Patron and offers up three batteries to the shrine's humble altar. Nobody has left anything here for years. It too is covered in a thick coat of dust. August considers brushing it down but chooses to leave it. The dust is ash from when The City burned, the Gods will not mind it sitting in their shrine.

As he prepares to stay the night in the shrine August takes his bag from his shoulder and unrolls some blankets. For a while before going to sleep he sits out at the doorstep and listens into the night. The stars are not really visible and the moon only half shines through the grey sky. He brushes the dust out of his tail, even after one day it gets everywhere - the ashes of a dead nation.

At one point he sees a spirit walking not too far off. He retreats back into the shrine and goes to bed. He dreams of The City and how it died.

The next day he sets off towards his destination, its ruined pagodas loom over the horizon. The remains of his civilisation lie ahead. However the road is not empty. A lone knight walks the path heading towards him. He wears a cloak that would have been a brilliant and bright colour once, now it is grey like the armour he wears and the ground he walks upon.

(A) Go around the Knight - Who knows who this figure answers to
(B) Accost the Knight - Maybe they are a friend
(C) Wait in the Shadows of the Temple - To get a better look before decisions are made

You now have the blessing of the Jovial Patron.

Bee movie.

"Stand where you are, Knight." August raises his arm authoritatively. His tail twitches - ready for a fight if one is to come.

The Knight raises his visor to reveal a grey face, strong with determination and devotion. "You have come back then? After all this time."

August ignores the question, after all its more of a statement than a question and he is here to accost the knight - not the other way around. "Where are you heading?"

The Knight responds by reaching to the pommel of his sword. "I will enter that Roadside Chapel." The knight says, taking a further step towards August. "You will not stop me."

August's bushy tail twitches again - even after all the battles of the Long Walk he hasn't faced anyone from outside Arcadia in a long time. There is part of him that wants to stretch out and prove he still has it in him but one thing is more important than any personal whim - his devotion to The City. Perhaps getting into conflict right away is not the best idea. Then again, maybe it is.

(A) Fight the Knight - To push back the darkness
(B) "What sort of a Knight has no horse?" - Sometimes obvious questions need to be asked
(C) "Where do you hail from, Knight? What nations still remain in this place?" - Perhaps a diplomatic approach is warranted

C what answers he has.

"Where do you hail from, Knight? What nations still remain in this place?" There is still tension in the air and August has not let his guard down.

Neither has the Knight, his hand remains firmly at his sword. "I am a knight of the Princess in Green. She is all you will find left between The City and the Yellow Queen's Keep. Outside of her court no one else still lives in this land other than the spirits - the rest have moved on to Paradise."

The Green Princess? One of August's old allies. August's tail falls back to its neutral position. Maybe there is no point in fighting this man. "I have come back for The City. What business do you have in the roadside chapel?"

"I have come to make devotion to The Saint. The shrines must not fall into disuse."

August scoffs at the Knights. He has never liked The Saint: that king and warrior from another universe. The devotion inspired in the Green Princess and her followers is not something he ever wants part of. Even his scion had once fallen victim to the wiles of The Saint, a fact he can not stand to this day. "I will not join you in that." He says bitterly.

"I would not have expected you to, God-killer. Good luck on your walk to the city." The way he says God-killer - is it resentment or perhaps disgust. August has been expecting that from the people here though. There is no use in denying the truth.

(A) Ask him what lies on the road ahead - So as to prepare for the journey
(B) Ask him to accompany you to The City - Maybe he wants to see justice too
(C) Stab him in the back as he enters the chapel - Perhaps what should have been done from the start

A. No reason to kill unless absolutely necessary. Doubtful that we will get along with this chap, however.
