Whoops, didn't see that I was up.... I'll play it when I get home this afternoon.

Pre-Turn:
Traded Chemistry and 310g to India for Music Theory and Banking.
Traded Iron to the Egyptian for Incense, World Map, and 8g

Turn 1:
Started to build Libraries in several cities.
Bought Military Tradition from Portugal for World Map & 1110g.

Turn 2:
Started moving units around for an attack against Babylon. Seems to me to be the next best choice. (there behind in technology and have a good amount of terrority, plus they have saltpeter located on the coast... if we can settle right on it and build a harbor, we could start producing some cavs.)

Turn 3:
We need to start getting some marketplaces in the coastal cities... Were not making much gold wise.

Turn 4:
Upgraded a warrior to medievil infantry.

Turn 5:
We should have a "considerable" amount of units ready to attack the babylonians in alittle under 5 turns. Atleast enough to take a city or two, and create a safe haven to land more forces.

I can only play 5 turns today, so I'm going to let someone else take over from here

Save

IIRC, there is some saltpeter on the west coast of our main island. I suppose we can use the cavs for overland assault, and certainly for pillaging, but I think the Zerks are going to continue to dominate until rifles/infantry.

Back. :D

Pre-flight – 1425 AD – Yes we have saltpeter on our west coast just south of Chengdu. Change Bergen to a settler. We were working five improved tiles. :nono: Not sure why we’re running 70% lux, have we whipped these people that much? Wake up two units to pillage, then get the third with a treb.

Antioch (pop 1) is building a worker due in 1, grow in 4. Change that to a barracks.

Alesund (pop 6) is building a granary without a duct. I think I’ll change it to a barracks, wasting 3 shields.

We can get Physics for WM & 866G from both Cleo and Henry. The Dutch and Portuguese have Economics and Physics. I smell a two-fer. The best price for Econ is Henry at 672G & WM. Execute that deal.

Go to Cleo and buy Physics for Econ, 296G, & WM. So two techs for 968G. The only tech we are down is Democracy. BTW, why are we researching democracy? I don’t think we’re ever going to use it. Since we’ve only invested six turns at single scientist, I change our science to ToG.

While it isn’t against our variant, we need to pillage the roads in Persia that are outside out cities. Enemies can use those against us.

IBT – Cleo wants to trade WM… no thanks.
Vadso: temple=>caravel
Birka:Pike=> Pike
Alesund: Barracks=> zerk

1. 1430 AD – Strider had me set up to take the small cities just across the way from us. I’m going to go for the next island over.

IBT – Tyre: Barracks=>worker (this city is hopelessly corrupt)

2. 1435 AD – Set up for D-Day next turn.
3. 1440 AD – Declare war on Babylon.
@ Khorsbad: one Zerk attack and the city is ours.
@ Tell Wilaya: another zerk attack and the city is auto razed.
@ Zariqum: Two zerk attacks and we collect a city and two slaves.
@ Hindana: Two zerks=> city falls, another slave. This island is nice since there aren’t any improvements yet.
@ Zamua: we lose our first battle and the city still stands.
@ Mari: Two victories and Mari joins the club.

All these cities had were spears. We’ll now start facing muskets as we approach the main Babylonian island.
4. 1445 AD - @ Eridu: Kill a musket and a spear and three Babylonians are very unhappy people.

I think I have found my new favorite unit. These Zerks rock!

IBT – Bergen: settler=> Zerk
Tromso: Temple=>Barracks
DRS: Court=> Barracks
Samaria: Harbor=>temple

5. 1450 AD - @ Sippar: Two zerk victories and the city falls.
@ Shurupak: Two MDI and a Crusader take the city from three spears.

When this campaign started, Babylon was the point leader and our nearest rival in land area at 13%. Egypt is now the land area leader at 10% and we’re now in first place.

IBT – Willie the Dutch man demands 100g & TM. Are you really sure you want to get in line behind Hammy to have your butt kicked? Since I can only kick one butt at a time, I’ve let you have your demand.
Xinjan: Barracks=> Library
Birka: Pike=>Zerk
Bactra: barracks=>temple
Sardis: settler=> settler (gotta love these 30 turn settler factories :D )

6. 1455 AD - @ Uruk: Two zerks take the city. Looks like we’ll finally see a counterattack, as there is a MDI nearby.

Babylon is down to 13 cities.

IBT – Reykjavik: Library=> Heroic Epic (We can use this as a pre-build if necessary)
Hammerfest: Harbor=> Library

7. 1460 AD - @ Ellipi: Two zerk attacks and the city falls.
Kill a Bab MDI approaching Uruk

@Nippur: Eleventh verse, same as the first – two zerks attacks and the city falls.
@ Zamua: Something different – one zerk attack and the city falls.
@ Karana: We lose our second zerk in the campaign.

Hammy will speak to us now. But he really doesn’t have much to offer.

IBT – Uruk flips back.
Copenhagen: library=>zerk
Tiensin: Temple=>Zerk

8. 1465 AD - @ Uruk: Lose a zerk to a musket., but the city falls.

IBT – Hamadan, Zohak: Harbor=>Settler The Dutch have founded a city where Tell Wilaya was.

9. 1470 AD – Move some zerks to a mountain directly south of Babylon. This is a great place to launch an assault from.

IBT – Magellan’s Voyage completes. Trondheim starts zerk
Antioch, Honningsvag: Barracks=> settler
.
10. 1475 AD – Found Haugesund in Persia.
@ Babylon: Kill one musket. Lose a zerk.
@ Nimrud: Kill one spear another is left.

Found Saltpetersborg on west coast.

After Action Report – 11 Babylonian cities captured or razed. We need to gather our forces. There are zerks left in several cities that need to be replaced with pikes or MDI.

We can either go for domination or conquest. If we want domination we need to start filling in a lot of our lands. If we decide to go for Conquest we can skip the settlers I have building.

We probably want to revolt to Republic soon. Feudalism is starting to outlive its usefulness, since we have cash and can’t cash rush anything. Probably after this campaign is over.

As soon as some of the cities stop resisting, we can whip some harbors.

Babylon is well set up to take with only one more city not on the coast. However we are running out of units.

Way to land on Babylon.

end quoth.

:blush: :splat:. my bad

Given the situation (no commerce generating terrain improvements), and if we are going for Conquest victory (more cities to capture), and if we have researched the tech, might want to give Fascism a spin as it also has high unit support for small towns and allows whipping in captured burgs.

I played five turns of Fascism in Epic 39 and I really didn't like it. That doesn't mean we shouldn't go for it, it just means I don't know how to play with it yet.

One of the big advantages of Fascism is the faster workers. Since we've crippled our workers, I'm not sure whether this is a good government for this variant. What does the team think? I'm think we need to change governments right now, I'm just not sure what we should change to.

Since we're actually making a decent amount of money, I think it should be something with a cash rush capability.

@Bugs,

Only real advantages of Fascism in our game is the unit support and the ability to pop-rush in the conquered towns.

Praying for Strider

We'll put Strider on the 15 day Disabled List. There is no way I'm taking him off the roster. Let's keep him in our prayers.

Isn't it amazing how your perspective changes? Here I was feeling badly that my weekend was shot due to this cold. In hindsight, I didn't have it so bad.

Here are some of my thoughts for the game.
(a) We should revolt immediately. We still do not have our troops in place and the vessels are still sailing. What better time to revolt.

(b) I also propose the use of warrriors as garrisons for any non-core cities. Take advantage of our lack of "resource connection" to make tons of cheap warrior garrisons. Most of our cities are so corrupt they are not worth keeping anything better than a spear. I would suggest pulling all ancient cav, crusaders, zerks out of any corrupt city and use them as a destruction force. If those cities burn, so be it.

(c) I suggest getting our FP asap, either at Nanking or Hammerfest. Of course, this is depend on the next military GL.

(d) Regarding victory conditions, I would vote for conquest as this is an archi map, resettling is not as straight forward. this removes us from the necessary of building any more settlers, and concentrate on what is important.

My 2 cents. Let see what everyone's view and I will get this game going.

A. Havn't looked at the save in a bit. If you think you can make due with havn't no reinforcements for the next 10 turns(and we're not in a Wonder Race- can't imagion that we are though), and you think another government would be better then Fued, revolt away. I'm not sure why'd we switch though. What government you have in mind(monarchy)?

B. I agree if we go for Conquest, if domination is still the goal we'll want to hold those cities.

C. Don't remember where those cities are, but they sounds like China & Persian ex-cities.

D. I was leaning towards domination, but with having to dump out settlers for all the cities razed & then protect those worthless corrupt cities it might be a headache. However the groups obviously been trying for Domination do to us controlling roughly 1/3 of the world. I'm still debating this one.

I have not gotten a response other than from GK. If there are no objections by the time I get home from work today, I will

(a) assume all agrees to conquest victory.

(b) allow me to strip bare our crusaders, ani cav and zerks.

(c) revolt to, if I don't hear any objection, monarchy. Time to use some of the dough.

(d) make our FP at Nanking if a MGL pops up.
