The Gangs of New York Mod

Ok, I started editing the civ's today (yes I know I am slow as a [insert here])

And I was thinking, since this is historical fiction, should I make up names for families, should I use the godfather names, or should I use the real-life names.

Well so far the civs are:

The Giardini Family - Hell's Kitchen Area of NYC
The Ragusa Family - Little Italy Area of NYC
The Messina Family - Midtown Are of NYC
The Reggio Family - Brooklyn
The Brazini Family - Bronx

I wanna try this mod out, so keep up the good work, i see if i can help out on the beta testing part of it to see if there's any mishaps and other sorts of stuff.

Names that I camn up with:
-Gang Wars for New York
-Clashes of Mafia
-Gang Land
-Bullets from Mafia
-Red Scars
-Crime Out Right (o.O)

There may not be good, but Res Scars seem to be good for a gothical-like title for mafias, Ka-Pich?

Heh, "ka-pich"..sorry, but I just have correct you as an Italian speaking idiot....it's capisce. You make it sound too chinese =P

Anyway when I decide beta and aplha testers I will keep you in mind. Thanx man.

What a coincidence, so am I.

it is funny how nearly everyone on this project is of italian ancestry...

i am not sicilian, but i am calabrese. i am not american either but that's another story.

anyway, i have waited for a long time for something like this. some other people were considering making one with the lucchesi, colombi, genovesi, bonanni and gambini.

i dont mean to be patronising, but do you mean "messina" as in the town?

as for the name, what about "la cosa nostra"?

Are you sure? A large number of Calabrese are actually of Albanian descent. I had an Italian friend Cesar that was Calabrese that was actually Albanian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arberesh

Arbëreshë are an Albanian-speaking group living in southern Italy. These people settled in Italy during the 15th and 16th centuries, after the great Albanian hero Skanderbeg died. There was also a second group of emigrés from the Himarë region in Southern Albania, who left after the massacre of some 6000 people who refused to convert to Islam at the orders of Ali Pasha Tepelena. This group constitute most of the ancestors of the inhabitants of the villages of Hora e Arbëreshëvet Piana degli albanesi and Sëndahstina (Santa Cristina Gela). The Arbëreshë were able to keep most of their identity so they can clearly be identified as Albanians. However, unlike the majority of Albanians elsewhere, most of whom converted to Islam, the Arbëreshë are mainly Byzantine Catholic and Latin Rite Catholics, and perhaps unsurprisingly, their language has been influenced more by Italian and Greek than has other Albanian dialects. Their own term for their scattered "nation" is Arbëria.
Here are some villages of Calabria that are Albanian:
Calabria: province of Catanzaro, villages of Caraffa: Garafa, Carfizzi: Karfici, Pallagorio: Puhëriu, San Nicola dell' Viola: Shën Kolli, Vena di Maida Fortified, Arietta, Marcedusa, Andali, Zagarise, Amato, Zangarona, Gizzeria; province of Cosenza, villages of Cervicati: Çervikati, Civita: Çifti, Eianina: Ejanina, Falconara albanese: Fullkunara, Farneta: Farneta, Firmo Closed, Acquaformosa: Firmoza, Frascineto: Frasnita, Cavallerizzo: Kajverici, Castroregio: Kastërnexhi, Macchia Albanese: Maqi, Marri: Allimarri, San Giorgio Albanese: Mbuzati, Montegrassano: Mungrasana, Santa Caterina Albanese: Picilia, Plataci: Pllatani, Cerzeto: Qana, Spezzano Albanese: Spixana, San Benedetto Ullano: Shën Benedhiti, San Giacomo di Cerzeto: Shën Japku, San Demetrio Corone: Shën Mitri, San Martino di Finita: Shën Murtiri, San Sofia d' Epiro: Shën Sofia, San Basile: Shën Vasili, San Cosmo Albanese Strighari, Lungro: Ungir (where the Cathedral of San Nicola di Mira is located), Vaccarizzo Albanese: Vakarici, San Lorenzo D. Vallo, Rota Greca, San Marco Argentano.

Actually yes I did mean Messina. Typo. Sorry.

Also right now I have corn programming the sdk and possibly doing some python. So things should move a little faster now. Who ever knows if he'll drop by the forums though.

The way I came up with the names so far are as follows:

Giardini is my friends last name.
Messina is a town in Siciliy.
Ragusa is a town in Southern Italy.
Reggio is a city in Italy (Reggio-Calabria).
Barzini is a family from Mario Puzo's The Godfather.

Although I may change one of those to my last name. Anyone want to choose which one I should throw out?

Suggestions:

get rid of barzini. we want to be totally original right? well, replace it with your last name if it sounds euphonic, (don't use my "common" surname!), or something else.

try not to overuse place names. use some archaic sounding names, possibly "murella" or something, i dunno.

by all means, its your mod. do what you want with it! :) just my suggestions.
