The German Reich - Continued

We are still pushing into the Egyptian heartland, burning everything in our path. Going is slow, but steady. The tanks MUST wait for the infantry and artillery or perish on their own.

All Egyptian workers are disbanded now as they are captured, for two reasons. We dont need them, and the Egyptian cavalry will zero in on them to try and get them back. I used them once as bait, and it sort of backfired causing us to lose our two panzer armies.

A massive counter-attack killed 6 panzers, 2 panzer armies and 5 infantry for the loss of 12 Egyptian cavalry, and over 20 retreated away damaged. I did re-capture 4 artillery and kill 12 Egyptian riflemen/infantry units in the process. All attacking German forces are now in one massive army, instead of smaller groups that can get picked off.

Our army:
10 artillery
12 infantry
20+ panzers (12+ more in rear healing)
1 panzer army
1 infantry army

Egyptian armor is showing up in small numbers, too. The damn cavalry hordes are bad enough. However, it seems they are going on the defensive, and if they are, so much the better for us.

The new city of Bremershaven was built on the Egyptian coast, and a barracks was rushed. Airport next turn. It is MASSIVELY fortified, otherwise the Egyptian cavalry will sweep it aside.

The aircraft carrier is slowly filling with bombers and fighters. It is being rushed to the open ocean to meet with several battleships and destroyers to form a task force. These ships are stacked like our army. Egypt has over 20 bombers and is attacking our ships in the East Ocean. We need fighter cover there badly.

Our gallant navy has bottled up most of the Egyptian port cities, and is bombarding the hell out of everything. Our destroyers and an elite ironclad sank two of their battleships!!!

The East Ocean is still a free for all, but once the carrier gets there we should gain superiority. Then we'll bombard the hell out of their entire West Coast too.

There will be plenty of action for many turns to come, this will be a very, very long war.

Slow and steady is the key.

The city of Bremershaven was pounded time after time, but the garrison held! The Egyptian army was worn down very badly in its counter-attacks, and did little damage to our forces.

In a stunning feat of arms, German panzers raided a town previously by-passed, that held the entire Egyptian bomber force and destroyed it! 16 bombers wiped out! Now they have none!

A good thing too, because they were pounding the hell out of Bremershaven for awhile there.

They still have fighters scattered around, so watch what you bomb. I lost a bomber to air-superiority fighters.

The tedious work of marching into the center of Egypt continues. More of their largest cities have been destroyed, we are getting close to Thebes. Slow and steady. The armor moves with the infantry and artillery, and it stays alive. Damaged units were sent to Bremershaven to heal, then back to the front.

They will undoubtedly continue to attack Bremershaven, so keep alot of force there. All the railroads around it are pretty chewed up, but going outside the city is suicide so it will have to get by.

Did you build Breme-whatever on a coastal mountain or at least hill? Anyway, good job! :goodjob: I esp love the destruction of the entire Egyptian bomber force ...... :lol:

I slept all day yesterday because we had a party at our house on New Years.[party]

So I was up late...:sleep:

*Hint* There is enough artillery, but with some more infantry, a second city-smashing task force could be formed. I would do so, but be carefull not to leave Bremershaven lightly defended. The Egyptians have made it their mission to destroy it, and their counter-attacks have been unbelieveably brutal.

I would guess the Egyptians have lost 50 units trying to destroy Bremershaven, note they only have 11 cavalry left. My little trap worked pretty good, but we lost heavy too. Fortunately for us, we can absorb the losses, they cant.

We stand on the brink of a domination victory! Forty more turns or so should do it (four more players) is my guess, if we dont make any serious mistakes.

*Big Hint* We have no need to build any more improvements or wonders, just panzers, fighters, bombers and infantry.

You know, the FUN stuff. ;)

I was ignoring all Egyptian colonies and cities under size 12 (unless they were in the way), to push at the heartland. Destroying their ethnic "core" cities will weaken them fataly, I think. They also have a shortage of workers, except for some they captured from us, they have few.

Watch out, they arent through yet, and they are fighting back hard.

Most importantly, enjoy the panzers! I love the noises they make, and the way they bounce when they move! Panzers rule!

Oh the nostalgia! I cant believe berlin without railroads! Well. I haven't seen Mike C in
ages! Knight Dragon may have to play, or whoever's turn it is. I don't know.

Chinese one! Yet another Militaristic one, and those Mongol riders are awesome!:king:

Anyway, nice to see that the units are all stacked to minimise losses:D

Update - min no of turns is now 5 turns. Since each turn will take so long, I guess it's bout right. You're still free to play up to 20 turns but like Ohwell said, give the rest of us a share in the glory of our Panzers. ;)

Go, Mike! Make my life easier!

I did think of continuing a new SG but let's wait till we're finished with this one first. ;) Then we'll talk bout it.

Which shldn't take that long. :lol:

PS Well, it doesn't hurt to talk about it now. :) Whoever wants to join up in a Chinese succession game after this one ends, tell me.
 
I agree, we shouldn't celebrate yet. Mike C. and the rest of you have a monumental task to complete.

I had to concentrate intensely to keep track of all that was going on, plus theres well over 200 units to command. Thats why I tried to make the homefront easier to manage, by slowing city growth and raising the luxury rate. Plus chasing pollution is a pain in the @$$, and will comsume most of the workers time.

We dont need any more tech if Thebes falls.

Egypt, for all intensive purposes is done for. I got lucky with two things, trapping and slaughtering their cavalry at Bremershaven, and the destruction of their bomber force. They have much less force to counter-attack with now.

With the loss of enough high population / high shield producing cities, they will be too weak to offer any real threat. Then we mop up everyone left.

The slow and steady style of assaulting their cities will ensure several of you will get to take at least one more turn. And ensure their destruction without heavy German losses.

Knight-Dragon - Once we finish this, hopefully with a domination victory, I would also be interested in starting another. The Chinese would be fun, I havent played them yet.

To Everyone Who Participated - In my humble opinion, this is the best sucession game of Civ3 in the whole forum, hands down, and Im proud to have played it with you guys. I learned alot, and had much fun!

Now lets finish it! Achtung! Panzer, marsch! Give 'em hell, Mike.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I was having some slight problems with the air-superiorty function, even though I have installed 1.16. It works, but sometimes the game freezes up for a minute or two. Saving, exiting Civ3 and restarting the game fixed it for me.

If anyone has any problems, let me know. I'll try to help.
 
When you stack ships, like 2 destroyers, one bombards in defense against attacks by enemy ships, much like a stack of infantry with cannons in it.

I found this out when an Egyptian battleship came out of the fog and attacked our stack (several destryoyers and an ironclad). Our destroyers fired first, knocking hit points off the Egyptian battleship, thus helping our last ship defend, which it did succesfully!

I didnt know this worked with ships untill then. A nice surprise!
 
Mike did say to give him more time and so we shall give him all the time he needs. ;) We all need a little break fr the trials of war anyways. :)

Im feeling a little "war weariness" from moving 200 units around for 10 turns. Thats 2000 moves! :crazyeyes

Im eager to see what Mike does, he is quite the aggressive player. I expect to see some blank map where parts of Egypt used to be. :lol:

Yes, I agree. Maybe Mike has some trouble with his PC. Maybe he just doesn't like CFC anymore:eek: . Naa, he probably forgot:D .

Wow! I don't even know where to start looking at. Only played 2 turns cos tired tonite but even those two turns took like at least an hr! :eek:

Found Bremenshaver to be without walls! Resolved to rectify before too late next turn.

Also found we need to wage a resource war on the Egyptians, specifically oil. They're pumping out tanks and mechs with impunity. Can see that they have 2 oil tiles; one just west of Bremenshaver and one more north of Shantung.

Used our fleet to blast out the rail/roads in the tile north of Shantung.

Some Egyptian tanks wandered into Bremenshaver. Disposed of them handily with artillery plus Panzers for a final strike. We also took care of that Egyptian oil colony using a mighty Panzer formation.

Our mighty Luffwaffe bomber bombed Elephantine and shot down an interceptor! [dance]

Bombarding Lisht back into the Stone Age! :lol: Note they've mechs defending the city so it's no longer safe for our Panzers to attk them head-on.

Building the Pentagon in St Petersburg; finishing in 9 turns. ;) The Egyptians counterattked Bremenshaver. Lost some inf. :( Got a worker to join city and then rushed the walls.

Cont bombarding Lisht! Now size 4. We can move on the next city once it reaches 1. :D

Our newest Panzergruppen boarding the transport bound for Egypt. ;)

Airlifted an inf into Bremenshaver. Only 2 inf now in total to defend the city.

Note - Now max of 20 turns per person. No minimun. I find each turn is damn tiring. :crazyeyes

Well, we have alot of artillery with those panzers, lets use it.

Good job of cutting their resources KD. I did not think of that when it was my turn, my bad! Hopefully it will slow them down a little more.

I warned about their counter-attacks against Bremershaven, now you know what I mean. They are hell-bent on destroying that city! donsig - You might want to get some more infantry to Bremershaven on the double! It will slow down our offensive if we lose that base.

I was keeping a minimun of 6 infantry there, and reinforcing every turn. The attrition is awful, but they lost more than us.
