The German Reich - Continued

Ah crap! Mech Inf! How did our brilliant scientists let the puny, backward, uncivilized tribe of egypt discover computers! Tell our scientists that if they want to get payed, they have to research Synthetic Fibers . We absolutley need those modern armors, more so than infantry. I would think a few more carriers would be with merit, the bombers must take out large science cities, as well as heavily defended ones.

Maybe we should have wished for thebes for new years, not panzers:lol:

It's dangerous to use the Panzers to hit the cities now cos they're conscripting mechs heavily (at least at Lisht). Best we can do is to fire our artillery away and kill as many pop and destroy as many imp as we could, and then move on to the next target city. Slow but effective. We need mechs ourselves and ever more artillery.

Also dangerous to use bombers cos they've fighters providing air superiority. I lost one fighter while strafing one city somewhere. :(

joe, they've mechs when I got the game. ;) Could have built Bremenshaver on a hill at least and also city walls. Was left with one inf and airlifted one in at the end of the Egyptian counterattk.

We must deny oil to the Egyptians at all costs.

Bremershaven was attacked by 7 or 8 tanks and we lost our infantry garrison and took damage to some of our tanks. Our counter-attack wiped out their 4 remaining tanks and the accompanying mech. infantry. Special citation for the Bremershaven Cavalry Div. which took out the last tank. 5 infantry divisions were immediately airlifted to the scene and they were attacked by 5 tanks cutting our infantry garrison to 4 divisions. More airlifts pending as two more airports are under construction in Germany. Egyptian infantry took up positions in the hills near Bremershaven. We expect to dislodge them easily since we still hold the fortified mountains.

The oil supply near Kaifeng was cut and an Egyptian battleship was sunk in the area. We will continue bombarding the roads in that area. The GIA has identified 3 sources of rubber and we hope to target these as well. The supply sout of Neapolis is susceptible to naval bombardment. The other two supplies are north of Heliopolis and south of Alexandria. The other source of oil has eluded us though there is an old record of it somewhere... The GIA also determined that Egyptian citizens enjoy 5 different luxuries but they have at least 4 of each so depriving them of even one luxury would be a difficult task.

Hangchow was razed and the captured workers disbanded. We also captured a catapult. The army has orderes to move on Alexandria next.

One of our carriers lost a bomber in a raid on Busirus.

Our goals are to deprive Egypt of oil and/or coal; raze Alexandria and move onto Thebes; create a second army to strike into another part of Egypt; extend our defensive cordon around Bremershaven.

More to come...

EDIT: Our goal should read 'deprive Egypt of oil and/or rubber' rather than coal! BTW they have 5 coal, 7 saltpeter, 4 iron and 6 horses.

Great work you guys!

Im so proud!:D

The resource war is brilliant, and we have the means to carry it out. Keep at 'em, they will start to feel it very soon, then we will wipe them off the face of the planet! :hammer:

Knight-Dragon - I built Bremershaven where it is because at the time, a MASSIVE battle was raging on our beachhead. It made D-Day look like a sail boat race. So I plopped it down and fortified like hell.

I rushed city walls TWICE! And barracks, and harbors and an airport! I used six or seven workers to add to the city for rush-building too.

The Egyptian bombers smashed our improvements over and over. That is until I figured out that the bombers were all based in one city, and WHAMMO!... No more bombers.:D

So thats the story buddy. I would have put it on the hilltop if I could have, but we wouldnt have made it til the next turn. It was that close. We lost heavy gaining that beach-head, so lets keep it.

The counter-attacks you are experiencing are only half as bad as the ones I got. 30+ cavalry with artillery and tanks every turn for a few turns. We barely survived, but I destroyed most of their offensive capability that way. And allowed our armies to raze cities without being whittled down fighting cavalry.

Six or seven tanks would have been a treat compared to that!

Keep up the great work! Death to Cleopatra!

She should be approaching us for a peace treaty soon, thats when you will know they are almost finished.

donsig - Cant the artillery smash up the mech infantry enough so the panzers roll over it?

I fear we cant wait for modern armor, we should finish them now.

You are in the hot-seat, what are your feelings?

The hard part will be keeping the oil tile north of Shantung beyond the grasp out of the greedy Egyptians. Somehow, I think we must land troops there and take over that part of Egypt.

Oh forgive me, o mighty one! How can I doubt the limitless wisdom of our resident Prussian strategos! Forgive my impertinence for I was not there, to witness the heroic invasion of our new lebensraum.

But seriously, the Egyptians still have too many biggie cities and mechs. It could take quite a long time..... I was actually already contemplating we'll be beginning our new Chinese SG. You know, I can supply all the cultural and Chinese language references. huoqian pudui (firearms formation) anyone? :D

She should be approaching us for a peace treaty soon, thats when you will know they are almost finished.
You know, we shld squeeze the latest techs out of Cleo for a peace treaty, then turn around and backstab her again. Heehee.

thanks for the entertainment guys:goodjob:

this has been quite the civ, many clever stragegies that i will be sure to implement next time im faced with a land hungry AI.

anyhow i just wanted to wish you all good luck with the mop up but i dont think you'll need it as its looks like joe has broken their spirit and the end is near for those rotten egyptians :ak47: :egypt:

BTW could someone post the latest screen dump with mini map as id like to see how the war is going. thanks in advance:)

Hill west of Bremershaven cleared of Egyptian infantry. & tank divisions attack Bremershaven from all directions. Our garrison is damaged but all units are intact. The attackers are destroyed. We have been using our newly arrived tank divisions to finish off the attackers. It is good training for them!:) We have begun fortifying the recently recovered hill. The Egyptian battleship/transport we were tracking south of Germany is actually headed for Bremershaven! The battle ship is damaged and we are closing on it. It should pose no problem.

Oil does pose a problem. We cut their supply in the north but the GIA tells us they still have another supply. The oil west of Bremershaven is not within Egyptian control. We cannot locate the other supply! It is possible they have a hidden supply in one of their cities! We are considering cutting the roads around as many of their cities as we can.

We have only encountered one mech. infantry and it was a conscript unit. If easily fell to our panzers after artillery bombardment.

More to come...

Late 1958: The Egyptian battleship accompanying the transport was sunk. More infantry airlifted to Bremershaven.

1959: Egyptian transport sunk but not before 8 cavalry land near Bremershaven. Egyptian infantry and musketeers also take up positions nearby. Six tanks attack Bremershaven and we lose one infantry division. Our artillery and fighters bombard the attackers and in the ensuing counter attack General Kish rises to the forefront and forms an army from the recently airlifted infantry divisions. All Egyptian attackers are destroyed and the newly promoted Field Marshall Kish personally directed the final battle where our tank killing cavalry division wiped out the last Egyptian cavalry unit that had dared to land near Bremershaven.

1960: Only 4 tank divisions attack Bremershaven this year. We repel the invaders without loss and airlift more infantry and land more panzers.

FM Kish moved his new army into Egypt north of Alexandria. Together with the 2nd Panzergruppen (and most of the artillery that was near Bremershaven) he intends to strike at the large Egyptian cities NW of Alexandria while the 1st Panzergruppen continues towards Thebes.

The 1st Panzergruppen's artillery cut the nearby supply of rubber (leaving Egypt with one rubber depot south of Heliopolis). Once that was done the remaining arty began shelling Alexandria which is defended by mech. inf.

The navy lost two unescorted destroyers as new Egyptian battleships attempt to leave the ports at Giza and El Armana. The battleships succeeded in sinking our ships but both had to limp back to port. We can be sure they will be repaired and attempt another break-out. A third battleship has been spotted near Kaifeng as our ships in that theater continue to deny the nearby oil to the Egyptians.

Kriegendorfer has been founded near Bremershaven in order to secure the oil in that area for Germany. It is also hoped that our bombers can be usefully deployed in Kriegendorfer but this must be looked into further.

More artillery and engineers should be sent to Egypt. We also need more infantry to act as MP in Germany. Our forces there have been depleted in order to reinforce Bremershaven.

Well, I must say that was FUN! Spend alot of time on this last night and ALL morning, too! These turns take a LONG time since there is so much to do. I could have taken longer and fine tuned some things but I was into the fun part too much for that!

At first I wondered why all the railroads were still around in the areas we conquered but once I formed the 2nd Panzergruppen I saw the wisdom. I was able to move right into Egypt. It would have taken forever to to that without the railroads. And it does not appear to be safe to send workers out to rebuild the rr if we destroy them.

We are running a deficit in order to get radio faster but an eye should be kept on it so we don't fall below 1000 gold. (We still earn interest even though we are Communist, nicht war?) The only money I spent was on investigating a city (the cheapest one) in order to find out how many resources they have. I still think they have a hidden oil tile!

We need more arty around Bremershaven. I sent most of it on with the 2nd Panzergruppen so as not to hold up that task force. I think Bremershaven and Kriegersdofer will hold. I rushed walls in the new city but they will not form till next round. We can still airlift 5 infantry per round into Egypt but our infantry is getting low in Germany. I think we need to garrison the oil fort and mountain near Kriegendorfer.

Remember they have mechanized infantry. It will take some artillery bombardment before our panzergruppen can attack the cities. I just reached Alexandria so I'm not sure how much it will take!

Well, whoever is up next should have twice the fun since he will command TWO panzergruppen!

Once again, Admiral Hammers admits defeat. Here is his sad, sad report.

City gains- Zero city gains. Mechanized infantry covering the entire Egyptian empire, conscripts killing our elite panzers:eek:

City Losses- Bremershaven subdued to culture, liberated same turn, 3 artillery, one army lost in culture flip. Zero lost in liberation.

Progress- Slow, very slow. Artillery bombarding turn after turn, reducing enemy city size to lower than 10 is the goal. Ships bombarrding by sea, bombers by air. Two bomber squadrons lost, replaced by fresh bombers from Germany. One carrier group nearly destroyed, carrier fleeing from enemy battleship in eastern sea. Battleship in range will be bombed by fighters and bombers on carrier.

The home front- Infantry training by the hundreds of thouands, panzers turning out of the factories daily. Bombers and fighters testing. Civil unrest in some cities cured by martial law. Infantry airlifting every turn. New ships coming out slowly. Some cities producing wealth.

Special events- Pentagon completed. 2 leaders appear, form armies in Bremershaven. One of the armies now has 4 units. All others must be filled. 3 transports wating in southwest sea.

Goals :

- Bombard all cities until size 6, then attack.
- FInd ene,y oil, destroy.
- Airlift more units into Bremershaven.
- Good luck, I hope your reign is not as bad as mine was.

Yeah, it's a slow campaign for sure but should speed up once we get more armies on line. We need a thrust towards Heliopolis in order to cut their remaining rubber supply (assuming we can keep the others cut as well). Do they still have oil? I never did find their second supply. We have the one west of Bremershaven. Is the one near Kaifeng still cut or did our fleet get chased away? (I'm at work and can't download the file to see for myself.)

That culture flipping thing scares me. Perhaps we should sacrifice some workers to rush a few culture improvements?

I tried that, we can't even build any culture improvements because of the mobilization! This sucks. There wasn't even any egyptian borders nearby! Wierd.

Is the one near Kaifeng still cut of did our fleet get chased away?

Kaifeng is that northern desert city right? Yep, it is still cut. Our fleet is being sared by Battleships, but we held.

However, a carrier almost got demolished in the east sea, by west egypt. There was a battleship that attacked, then went back in a city to repair so we could not attack it:mad: . Then it killed a submarine, then the 2 Battleship escorts. The carrier is making a run for it! If the ship comes near, our planes will bomberd it, because the ship is too far behind yet.:)

BTW, how do you post a screenshot? It did not work for me.

I forgot that we're mobilized for war and can't build temples and such. I built a city right by the oil! If it flips it gives Cleo another oil! Double Drat!!

Kaifeng is the city in the north desert. If that's still cut and they still have oil I don't know where their other source is. (Of course I couldn't find my way out of the Inland Sea either!)

We have to watch out for them battleships coming out of port and going right back in. That's how they sunk two of our destroyers. Guess we have to stack our naval units as well as our land forces.

I save the screenshot as a jpg file then just attach it the same way I attach the zipped game file.

Theres a post on page 7 about stacking ships.

Stacked naval units work like ground units, namely bombardment against attackers. Stack a battleship with a carrier, a sub and two destroyers. Call it a task force. It has a much better survival rate than individual ships.

The culture flip of Bremershaven is due to all the rush-building we have done there. The citizens are sick of it. I recomend not doing that for at least 20 turns, to restore some happiness.

I dont know what to do about the mech inf because Ive never seen it in Civ3 yet. I need to play and get a feel for it, maybe theres a way to defeat it.

We have come so far, we wont be defeated now. Germany will prevail!

iPsychosis - My humble suggestion is to use our abundant artillery to weaken all mech inf in a city to one hit point and then attack with panzers.

I dont know if Ohwell did this or not, but donsig said it worked for him.

Raze their cities! Disband their workers! Crush them!

If you keep the infantry, artillery and panzers stacked they wont be able to destroy them. If Bremerhaven falls, so be it.

Destroy Egypt!!! ...or it may be the end for us.
