The Hall of Players

Are you sure you know how to get Trades Routes there, Sera? :mischief:

Yer. Posted in S&T yesterday playing like I didn't know it, to cheer up the n00bs there. Man, they were so happy that they could teach their uber-awesome master something. Poor guys, they really thought that I didn't know something so basic, which ofc is ridiculous, because I ofc. know everything ^^ .

Just forget it... Shouldn't be too difficult for me. I owned Lime, and then you came in here talking weird stuff.

Always when I think I've become a really really really good CIV-player, something helps me develop further, causing things like this in the next game:

If it's difficult to see, that's Lib -> Steel in 425 AD (Epic speed) with a start that didn't even have Gold or Gems... :rotfl:

Forgot to post this: "That I may still experience this in my civ-time..."

First time in over 4y of heavily playing CIV. Unfortunately in the same Rome-game, where I'll probably not have a single Gunpowder unit until very late, because Praets and Cannons already beat anything, but at least I now know, that the event is even in the BUFFY-version of the game.

Cool. What event is that, and what is the reward for the 2nd option?

Edit: Never mind, I found it in the War Academy (had it up in a different tab from before)
Code:
Event143
	Charismatic
Prereq: Police State civic AND NATIONALISM or PRINTING_PRESS or EDUCATION or GUNPOWDER or ASTRONOMY
	Obsolete: None
	Active/Weight: 65/100
		Result:
1.All Gun units gain the March promotion
2.+2 happy faces in all cities

Since you need Police State civic, that probably makes the event rare in itself, because most won't be running that.

I hunted for that event for over a year, because I didn't read properly, and thought that "all units are promoted to March" , so I played a series of Dom / Conquest games, in which I conquered the Mids asap and then ran Police State until the win. I even chased for that event in my Highscore-games and ran Police-State temporarily during the GA-phases, still, it never showed up.

The event might anyhow be better than I estimated at first, because some civs on that map have a crazy tech-speed, meaning they can compete with my Traderoute- and Conquest-economy, Zara actually has more than twice the GNP of me. I first thought, I could decide this game with Praets, but it has gone 'til Rifling and Cavalries. I hope that upgraded Praets also get that March-promotion, then I only need to find a way to get enough money, which is probably impossible, although a Golden Age might do the trick.

Way more complicated than I thought, have totally forgotten how much Normal + Epic are different from Marathon.

The revenge of the AI:

Got an awesome start, tripple food, Gold and even BFC Horses! 2nd and 3rd city were also awesome, having again very good food, tons of Forests, a River, Iron... teched to HBR as fast as possible and started building up Chariots and HAs. Even got Alphabet through a lucky trade. Went into attacking position in 840 BC, which is not that bad for Quick speed. Then the Chariot I sent for a last check before the attack on Asoka's supernice quadrupple food capital, that had the Mids and the GW, found this:

That bastard had oracled Feudalism 1000 BC  :ar15: [pissed] *ragequit* .

I need to ask for advice, I'm stuck.

I began playing a Large Quick Pangaea Conquest game, and I'm short before Liberalism -> Nationalism to go for a Conquistador-rush.

My cities have Granaries + Forges and 5 have Libraries. Now I ask myself if I should build 2 more and push for Universities to get Oxford, as I know that this game will probably go until Nukes or Tanks, so getting it now seems attractive.

This goes against an all-in Conq-rush though, because I'd need to chopwhip the remaining Libraries and the Universities, while I could already build Knights which I could upgrade to Conqs via a GM I currently generate.

My question is, would you spend those resources on Oxford now or would you try to build it after the rush (maybe even whip the nicely large conquered AI-cities?) or would you miss out on it completely, as at last, it's a Conquest game.

Tia,

Seraiel

An answer would have been nice, but it was probably too short-term.

Got the answer from Asoka a few turns later:

How is this possible?

That's a screen from the same turn, I restarted CIV. Asoka has more than 10 less GNP, no I'm not sure anymore if I really do need Oxford still, as he has 60 GNP only through the :culture: of Wonders.

Some games are just... whatever.

Built Oxford. Ofc. was extra-dumb, and traded away Stone before, so got it 5T later than it would have been possible. Doesn't seem to matter though, Asoka has just gone completely crazy and has twice the GNP of all other AIs + me, because he built 3 Shrines and the GLH. Probably a game to throw away, have no friends because he founded 5/7 religions and spread a different one to each of us. Could conquer Brennus + Tokugawa without problems, but I'm guessing that the game just isn't competetive enough. Next time I'm probably gonna take a game where I at least don't fail on the Mids, Police State seems just too important to miss on. Maybe I'm also gonna fight through, don't know, if someone wants to give his opinion, I'd appreciate that.

The problem of the game is probably, that the AIs never were at war with each other + the random chance ofc.

For the first I still need to find a solution, bribes on Quick are insane, one needs 8 techs with the equivalent of Engineering to conduct one bribe. Ofc. I used the usual high and low peaceweight mix, but the AIs just didn't want to go to war, maybe too few turns on Quick, maybe something else of the settings messes with the code... Haven't gone as far as to use AGG-AI setting, I don't like how many units they build when enabling that. Still got bad dreams when I met 120 units Lincoln :D .
