Just to be serious for a moment (for which I apologise :D ) - what is the purpose of this party? I'm not really sure what the Game of Democracy is. I was lured from the general discussions forum by the appeal of this party's philosophy and joined up on an impulse. Do I need to do anything else to be a useful party member? I've had a quick look on the Game Of Democracy forum and there was something about registering as a citizen. Is this something that I should/need to do?

Yes Register yourself right away!!! http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=132266
Otherwise you can't take part in the demo game. The Demo game is like a mock democracy, we have political powers, have elections, vote on the well-being of our nation, all based off of Civ 4 games. To me just keep up the good work, and keep trying to lure people into the Hawk-Dove party.

Oh and our party views and purposes are listed on the first post. If anyone has any other ideas of what our party should stand for, please post suggestions.

O and Bengeance, I edited it. You are part of the Hawk-Dove party...:mischief:

5star, put me in, because i feel that i will at a cultured bit to this party. That is not an insult, that is me trying to get members of your fine party to join my fine party, in which they can get to it through my sig. If you would appoint me Officer of Culture, I would be much oblidged!

Thanks 5star! I've registered myself as a good citizen and humbly begged entry into the Democracy Game. :D

I would like to start a discussion about what role we will attempt to fill in the upcoming demo game.

I see a couple of possibilities. 1) Run for offices of Minsiter of Science, Secretary of War, and various govenorships in an effort to directly influence both research and military capabilities. 2) Actively lobby for appropriate research and buildup by those members of the Demogame who are elected while each member pursues their individual avenue of preference for participation in the Demogame.

I personally think that option 1 is the most likely to succeed in attaining our goals and would like to see that option pursued. But I also acknowledge that I don't have any experience in previous Demogames and that my personal preference is for the more actively engaged Demogame roles.

One other option that may be worth pursuing in addition to either of the others is to set up a "Shadow Government" whereby each member of the Hawk-Doves will assume one of the roles of the actual government in an effort to spur thought and debate among ourselves on the best course to present to the overall leadership of the Demogame.

This would effectively give us some experience in the roles that we may decide to pursue and also allow us to flush out silly mistakes and weak arguments before we hit the discussion boards to persuade the majority.

Anyway, Just thought I would run some ideas up the flagpole and see what kind of reaction they get.

You'll have to forgive me if I'm being an idiot, but it seems to me that the civics we're promoting aren't generally available until the mid-game period (unless of course we build the Pyramids and get the choice of Universal Sufferage early on). The early game direction will therefore dictate to some extent the viability of our ideal civics. For example, Free Religion only works if multiple religions have been allowed to spread throughout our cities. If it is decided early on to found a religion and then go for Theocracy, it would be difficult to argue for Free Religion later because there will be little benefit to be gained. Therefore (and now I come to my point and honestly I do have one, however much it may appear that I'm rambling :crazyeye: ) I agree with Bengeance that we need to run for offices, or at least identify other candidates who share our views and support them (working on the assumption that as good as Hawk-Dove may be :king: we're not going to be able to monopolise every position).

I also agree with Bengeance that it would be better to make idiots of ourselves in here, before going forth and declaring our idiocy to the rest of the citizens.

Anyway, that's my two pennies worth and now I need to go and have a lie down so that my brain can recover from all this exertion. :D

Update! As the recruitment secretary I just posted this on the IIP's forum thread:

"Attention members of the IIP! As we all know your former leader Alphawolf has been ensnarled in an embarrassing scandal, and his prospects of a comeback (if he even returns) are low at best. With the scandal and the fallout that this party may observe in the coming weeks, I just wanted to let you in on a viable alternative: the Hawk-Dove Party. We are still looking for more members, and we have a similiar message to the IIP, without the scandal of Alphawolf hanging over our heads. I am not trying to criticize any of you; it is not your fault that Alphawolf fooled us all. I liked him and all that he did, but it is time to move on. Here is the Hawk-Dove manifesto:

(Our manifesto)
1. Our society be a free one. One of Free speech, a free market, one of universal suffrage, free religion etc. We shall in noways control any aspects of our society.

2. Try to maintain positive and prosperous relationships with our neighbors, leading to a greater and more peaceful world.

3. We shall maintain a peace-through-strength system. This means that we will build up a mighty army so that opposing nations may think twice about doing anything unnessecary towards us. Also if a threat is immenent, the party's view is to allow preeminate strikes on a foreign nation for the safety and well-being of our nation.

These are the three basic positions of our party. We welcome anyone to join, and let it be known that I did not come here to harrass or bother you, rather to inform you of another alternative. I hope that no one is offended. Have a good day."

Hopefully this will help to increase our membership and give people another choice.

By the way, welcome to all of our new members! I am glad to see a few new active participants in our party.

Bantste, it's in bad taste to prophesize a party's fall and try to lure their members away in their own thread. I hope you delete this rude post immediately.

Bantste, as a hawk-dove member i would request you remove your comment from the IIP thread. I'm not mad, but a little disappointed. I like this party because it was NOT comprised of overbearing oppurtunists(not a jab at you banstse but at others who know of what i speak)

Yeah, Bantste, I have to agree with Swissempire here. Nothing against you or your drive to help us find more members, but we probably shouldn't advertise for members in the IIP thread. If some members of the IIP no longer wish to associate with that party because of all the scandal then I'm sure a fair share of them will find their way to our party on there own. We just need to be sure that we make it very clear that we are welcoming anyone who is interested.

I understand completely. I was hesitant to post there, but at the time I thought it seemed like a good idea. I see my error and have edited my post. I was being opportunistic and I apologize. I hope that my decision will not affect anyone's perception of the Hawk-Dove party, as it was mine and mine alone.

Ok swissempire, welcome to the Hawk-Dove party as our culture secretary!

Also, with the Civ4 civics thing, when the civics do arrive thats what we will stand for as a party. However, what our positions should be before these is complete up to everyone in the party.

And yes Bengeance, I do think it would be a good idea to nominate Hawk-Dove members to offices for elections next time around. Get our ideas into the government!

In my view we should be against the use of Mercantilism and Theocracy (except perhaps for a limited period during times of war when those extra xps come in handy), as these 2 civics are very isolationist and will not aid the cause of peace - although they may provide an opportunity to use our superior firepower! :D As for the other 3 categories, I'm happy to use which ever ones seem most beneficial at the time, until our preferred civics become available.

Thought I would also go ahead and ask what positions different members would like to run for in the coming elections.

I personally think that I would like to try out a Govenorship before I get too far into other things like Minister of Blah.

So how bout you guys.

You know Governor would be something I would like too. You can even pick your own flag and name it and stuff, I think. I'd like to do this rather than throw myself into a situation like Presidency where I don't have enough experience in a demo game to even contend in the election.

Ya I don't think that we should be in favor of theocracy either. Mercantilism for me depends on what are status is during that particular time.

Also, would we like to post possible Hawk-Party Shadow Government positions? As in, just post which position you would like to have in the Shadow Government. I would not mind being a Govenor here as practice, and also wouldn't mind being Minister of Science.

Since I am new to the Demogames I would also like to ask any experienced members of the party to clue me in on any important items about the functioning of the Demogame, like importance of the turnchats and frequency of play sessions during a term in office.

well actually you can see my post count, I am still relatively new to the demo game. I think swissempire would be someone good to ask.

I would also like to be a governor some time down the road (at first there are so few positions.) Maybe Swissempire might be able to yield us a major position? He looks the most qualified.
