I had squid once. It was like trying to eat a tire.....

Then It wasn't cooked right.

Then it was over-cooked. They should be fried moderately for a few minutes, just enough to cook the meat.

Exactly, just like any other meal that comes from the sea. But squids can also be prepared in other ways, although frying them is the easiest one.

Here it is another way:

The animal in the picture you posted is not a squid it is an octopus, which is also very tasty. My celtic friends form Galicia are experts in cooking octopus and they serve it in wooden dishes like this:

When I had squid, it was like trying to eat a very soft tire. Is that cooked right?

Well, to tell you the truth, I have never eaten a soft tire, so I don't know how is it like

Certainly it is not like chicken, nor like beaf, veal, pork or turkey. And I can tell the difference in texture among those kinds of meat. Although I prefer the texture of veal, I also like chicken, and, there are a zillion ways to cook chicken. Ones better than others. Overall, the texture counts, but is not that important, the flavor is more important, at least for me. The only problem is that you are not used to.

I could say that vaguely resembles to that red twister licorice candy, but not sweet.

Edit: Thinking twice, I believe that the main difference could be between eating fresh or frozen squid. The precooked calamary they sell in the supermarkets is a bit rubbery, (so you have a point), but the fresh one is not. Sadly, fresh squid is more difficult to find.

Edit: Anyway, it is a question of taste, so it is pointless to try to prove that one thing tastes better than other. And the fewer people who like squid, the cheaper will be to buy it, which is good for me. :D.

OK. then probably it wasn't properly cooked and frozen.

And as I said before, the less people that like squid, the more for me. :D.

I prefer octopus, thought. Don't try it, just in case you'll like it. More for me as well.

That looks good.

One time when I had Calamari, it was rings. How do you turn Squid into rings?

The body of the squid is round, so cutting from the side will produce a ring shape.

I'd like to see a hockey fan try to throw one of THOSE out onto the rink.

The ink of the squid is bitter. I don't like it. Come to think of it, I don't like to eat anything that comes from an invertabrate, or has a shell.
