Learn the IPA.

/ʒ/ - asia
/e/ - mate (not an exact match, since it's not a diphthong - only the first part of the sound)
/z/ - zone
/u/ - boot
/k/ - kng
/ʁ/ - french r, no equivilant in englsih
/i/ - fleece
/s/ - ssound

Far easier to learn the damned alphabet than it is to say "sound is like X in X word" every time you want to learn to pronounce something, especially if the language uses sounds that arn't in your language!

Mind, the u of Jesus really should be listed as "no real english equivalent, oo in boot is what comes closest".

It's halfway between the english U and the english oo (which is french ou), or thereabout.

Also wrong in that the T at the end of Christ is pronounced as often as not.

I'm a little curious about Jesus's name in languages around the world.

English: Jesus Christ
Polish: Jezus Chrystus (English pronunciation: Yezus ?)
German: Iesus
Amharic: Eyesus Kristos (Transliterated. Each letter is pronounced)
Spanish: Jesús Cristo
Portuguese: Jesus Cristo
Arabic: Isa (Transliterated)
Russian: Иисус Христос (Roughly transliterated as Eesus Khrestos)

So, what else can be added to that? I wonder if some language has some wildly different name for him.

EDIT: Iesus is actually the Latin spelling.

Muslims also refer to him as "the pure one," among other flattering nicknames.

Norwegian: Jesus Krist or Jesus Kristus

My church is affiliated with an Ethiopian church called the Mekane Yesus church, so add "Yesus" to the list if you like. ("Mekane" means something like "place of", though, not "Christ".)

Romanian: Isus Cristos

What? No!

Romanian: Iisus Hristos.


Pronounciation: something along the lines of "ee-soos hree-stos" (stress on the last syllable for each word; oh and a rolled R, obviously)
The "hr" group is extremely uncommon in Romanian (I can think of... what, 3 words in total that have it?), therefore the "h" does sometimes get pronounced more like a "c".
