Question: I have a scan of a document. I have a feeling that its a photocopy and not original. Is there a definite way to tell if you don't have the original document to compare?

It depends. If it's your parent's cousin too, then it's a first cousin once removed. If the aunt is your aunt by marriage to your uncle, then it's your aunt's cousin. However, you can't say your first cousin once removed in law.
