Not. Even. Slightly.

Question: In a few months, my wisdom teeth are going to be surgically removed. I know that I'm going to be unconscious while they're being removed, but is novacane usually used in addition to it?
Ouch. Does not sound fun. (Okay, yeah, getting teeth taken out of your mouth is never fun, but you know what I mean.Unless it's changed a bunch in the last 10 years, standard MO seems to be nitrous oxide(laughing gas) to numb then an injected anesthetic to put you out. Afterwards they sent me home with Vicodin for pain relief, but it made me sick enough to my stomach that just "toughing it out" for a couple days was preferable to trying not to puke in my sockets. I think I took two pills and the rest wound up in the garbage.
Do you enjoy giving people nightmares?Man, I had nobody to drive me home so I couldn't be knocked out. They just used locals around my mouth. I could feel the pressure as the dentist pressed down with the pliars to shatter one of them (some weird angle it was coming in at), but no sharp pain. And the crunch sound...
Believe it or not, IE9 rocks. And this is coming from someone who switched to Netscape Navigator at version 0.9something from Netmanage Chameleon, then faithfully used it all the way up through Firefox up until about a year ago (I even stayed with Mozilla obviously after their ASININE decision to abandon the suite in favor of Phoenix/Firefox.)Is there a current browser that doesn't suck ?
Firefox has become so sluggish and unstable that I switched to Chrome, but Chrome ironically refuses to load any images found through google image search.
Hey, I'm the sandman. I'm fun! Off to never never land with you!Do you enjoy giving people nightmares?

I just love having teeth pulled. No, really it's delicious...that crunchy gristly sound as they come out, wouldn't miss it for the world. I just wish I had more teeth than I do.
General anaesthetics aren't necessary at all unless you've got impacted wisdom teeth, perhaps. Still, if you're having 4 out at once, I suppose that might be a bit more of a thing.
I usually follow instructions pretty closely when it comes to medical matters, so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.Getting them taken out while unconscious wasn't too bad. Apparently, so my mom says, I was happy as a clam riding home in the car even if I was nonsensical and can't really remember it. The pain is well, pain, but it isn't soul crushing and you know it's going to go away rather than be chronic. Only thing I would caution is to really follow the cleaning and eating instructions they send you home with. So long as you keep everything clean and don't break a clot or tear any stitches things should heal pretty quickly and only be an annoyance. If you don't do things right and get a dry socket, well, that would be much more painful. It's almost entirely avoidable though, so just don't be unwise.![]()

I'm going to have all four removed at once, as far as I know. One of them I know for certain is coming down horizontally, the rest I couldn't see well on the x-ray.General anaesthetics aren't necessary at all unless you've got impacted wisdom teeth, perhaps. An additional question: Will I have to temporarily change my diet?
For what it's worth, take their admonishment not to smoke to heart. I lit up in the car driving home and continued to smoke regularly afterwards. I don't -know- if that was the problem, but my mouth was in pain for a long time afterwards.
Afterwards, but now that you mention it, would I even be able to have water?General Anaesthetic rules are: "nil by mouth" from tea time the night before.
Or do you mean afterwards? That, in my experience, will be up to you. I would expect you won't want anything much for 2 or 3 hours after. And then you've not to disturb the blood clots for a few days. So no rough stuff in the mouth.
But, hey, this is routine stuff. Nothing to worry about.![]()
Would soups with simple meats and vegetables be fine as well? They put me on liquids and mush for a while afterwards, no straws! Ice cream shakes, applesauce, mac n'cheese, and the like aren't too bad for a while little while.
I didn't really want to eat much for a couple of days anyhow, but remember I wasn't taking the pain medication either. It was less convenient a half week or so in when your appetite is back and your sockets still aren't 100%. Didn't help that I had mine out almost immediately before New Years 2000 and I really would have preferred to go out and get blitzed.

A far better piece of advice would be to say:I agree with Farm Boy. Do not take the Vicodin or any really strong pain pills. The injected anesthetic doesn't completely put you out though. Its a bit odd because when it is done, you feel like you were there the whole time, but it went by quickly.
