The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

The nearest place that could be suitable is just too far away for us to travel on our own. Bus connections are pretty much nonexistent. But yeah, there's plenty of great nature around. I just feel like I wouldn't dare to ask her out...

You could make a fancy homemade dinner (or get someone to help you do that) instead of going to a restaurant.

Every time you are in a situation that you initially think you should ask her out but decide otherwise, punch yourself in the face.

For those of you on this forum that know me well enough (don't respond if you don't really know me, please), can you help me figure out an occupational aspiration? I'm pretty confused, right now. Here are my options right now:

I have four medical dreams. One one hand, I want to be a trauma physician, like, in the ER. I would like to do this because I think it would be very interesting, but it's a stressful job, and I'm a pretty family-oriented person. Another medical aspiration of mine is to be a veterinarian, because I really do love animals, and I really want to help them. I might be called into the ER in the middle of the night, but it's not as stressful. I also might want to be a medical examiner, because I am very, very good at observation and deduction. It would be fun piecing together how someone died or something like that. The last option for me is to be a medical researcher, because that would give me a very good chance to change the world, and make western medicine better, because I'm really not a fan of it.

On another wing is law. I would like to be a judge (but of course you have to start as a lawyer) because I really like solving people's problems.

I also would like to do something in linguistics. Preferably, professing. I'm very interested in language, and I would love to spend my life studying it.

Can someone help me? Thanks in advance!

I have felt like doing so a few times when I didn't go to talk to her because she was with a couple of friends of hers...

You're going to change your future profession at least 10 times before you graduate college. Just sayin'.

I think that I should mention that my blind friend limits my ability to interact with the rest of the class (especially the girl I like). He does have an assistant, but she can't look after him all the time...

He shouldn't really (not saying to abandon him mind), there are always ways to work as a group to introduce yourselves to others. And if you are still getting tongue tied around the girl, you can always get him to ask her for you. Girls generally like guys who are generous and helpful.

Now I'm probably not the best person to take advice from with regard to getting a long-term relationship (serial sinner here), but asking advice from the internet is probably the first way of doing it wrong. At the end of the day, if she likes you, it will be because of who you are - there's no point trying to be impressive, because unless you can give yourself a personality transplant and a few years' worth of bodybuilding nobody can turn themselves into every woman's dream overnight. So any advice you take which makes you act differently to how you usually would probably won't work.

The point I'm getting at is that your best best is probably just to literally say words to the effect of (assuming you know her pretty well already, in which case you may be breaking the first rule which is don't have relationships with friends unless you're confident that they will last a very long time indeed , which at your age is not likely - when it finishes there'll probably be fallout from the whole business) "I was going to see this new film on the weekend, do you fancy coming?" (apparently, demonstrating lack of interest up to a point is a good thing; suggesting that you're going anyway does this). If you don't know her very well and you don't have the advantage of being in a club in Aldershot then I suggest doing that first.

I know that it can be a bad idea to ask for advice in the internet, but I think that I only did so because I needed some encouragement since I'm quite shy. And I'm not trying to start a relationship just for the sake of it, actually I find such behaviour to be rather silly. I'm usually a realist and wouldn't be doing this, but you probably know what love can do to a man...

What madviking says. I mean, it's good to think about these things, but there's no hurry to decide. :)

:) well, I think Flying Pig's advice is good... I guess. I really wouldn't know...

In your situation, I would find people in those professions that you could contact and as for some of their time and interview them about what the life is like. That could help you make up your mind.

Hi guys I'm looking for names of songs/artists you know that vaguely match the following description:

Female vocalist singing in Portuguese, may be Brazilian
Upbeat tempo, hints of ska or simply pop
Trumpet is main melodic instrument

I guess the particular song im looking for is quite popular cuz it has a catchy tune, any suggestions are welcome!
"The road to evil is paved with good intentions."

What does that mean, anyway?

good and evil are subjective terms, but basically sometimes negative stuff can happen without real malice behind it

it's like a needle in a haystack. the vocals of the song sound similar to chiero de amors and the style is quite similar too, but ive searched their catalogue and its not there. the tempo of the song i heard is a bit quicker like bananas, but banana is a male vocalist and same goes for 2 others. Ivete Sangalo again is kind of similar, but ive searched a lot of her and the song doesnt appear so it must be someone else. if youve got more ideas keep them coming, its nice to see the women and hear the music :D thx again

I heard something about wikileaks and subpoenas to stop people from following them on twitter, or something like that. Does anybody have more information?

From what I can gather in the Grauniad, it seems that the US court system is subpoenaing Twitter on a lot of accounts to see who is involved in WikiLeaks. It is beginning to cause problems in Iceland, and probably will elsewhere.
