The Mole: S&T's First Game Show!

On the turn I started the northern warrior got got
There was not much that you could do, seeing as how our Warrior had already (accidentally?) moved next to a Barbarian unit as part of the previous turnset.

Stuff what dhoom said happened (i think i remembered everything :mischief: )
Thank you for putting in the effort. I am more than happy to explain why I gave particular recommendations, if you have any questions. For example, the Granary timing was about the perfect time for whipping while building a new Warrior was so that we could have a City Defender to keep our people from being Unhappy by the time that the City would grow.

And the bad news
Well, it is good that we did not chase after The Oracle, since an AI built it insanely early (for this difficulty level) and would likely have beaten us to it anyway, meaning that we would have lost a bunch of Hammers that were probably better spent on building the Settler for our 3rd City.

So, no worries at all and nice work!

Here are some recommendations for the next turnset:

The current situation:
City 1 (Skowhegan) is building a Lighthouse and has a City Defender (a Chariot) that is keeping the people there happy.

City 2 (Corinth) is at City Size 3 and is building a Monument. When it grows to Size 4, it will require a City Defender.

City 3 (Augusta) has just finished completing its Monument and has begun work on a Library. It has a Warrior for a City Defender.

Overall, we have kept Borders Closed with the Egyptians, which is a good thing, since they are the Worst Enemy of multiple AIs.

We also have Open Borders with Kublai Khan, which is again a good thing, since we are getting 3 Trade Routes with his Civ, meaning a free +3 Commerce per turn. +3 Commerce may not sound like a lot, but every little bit helps at this stage of the game.

Recommendations for Turn 78 (the current turn):
1. City 2 should whip the Monument, so that we can get to work on building our Culture there and can also get the whipping action out of the way a bit sooner, so that the whpping Unhappiness will wear off sooner.

2. City 2 should probably steal the Sheep from the capital, as the capital should probably be working one of our Mines there instead. That way, City 2 can work both the Fish and the Sheep to regrow quickly after whipping.

3. After City 2 steals the Sheep, I suggest that you have the capital work 2 Clams and 2 Mines, since we are at our Happiness limit. When you steal the Sheep, the game will want to make you work 3 Clams, but we don't need to grow the capital that quickly, so it's better to make sure that we're working 2 Mines.

4. City 3 should probably start building a Granary before the Library, since it is small in City Size, since it grows slowly (low Food), and since it already has a Cultural building (the Monument) to help in expanding its borders over the Cow Resource.

From here, we have a lot of options:
A) We could build a few Military Units and then expand to a couple of more City locations
B) We could build minimal Military Units (one for each City to act as City Defenders) and then work on building a Library in the capital
C) We could build a lot of Military Units and plan to build up a force to attack an AI
D) We could go after a Wonder of the World, using the fact that we are about to complete research on Mathematics to give us stronger Forest Chops

I don't really care which option we pick.

However, here are my suggestions of what to do next based on each of those possibilities:
A) After building a Lighthouse in the capital, we should keep working the Mines there, then finish the Barracks and build about 4 Chariots, after which the capital can build Settlers. 1 Chariot can guard City #2, while the others can explore the world and try to kill off Barb units and see if they can guard future City locations for our Settlers. One of the Chariots would also try to explore a Coastal route to Pericles.

City 2 should build a Library after whipping the Monument. Once we are at Size 4, City 2 will whip the Library, with the plans of hiring Scientists in the future after regrowing the City to Size 4.

B) After building a Lighthouse in the capital, we should keep working the Mines there, then finish the Barracks and build 2 Chariots. 1 Chariot can defend City #2, the other Chariot can explore along the Coast towards Pericles. We can then work on building a Library in the capital. Obviously, if a Barb unit threatens City #3, we should try and build another Chariot for City #3 from the capital, but otherwise, we'll take a pacifist approach for now.

Same as above, City 2 should build a Library after whipping the Monument. Once we are at Size 4, City 2 will whip the future after regrowing the City to Size 4.

C) After building a Lighthouse in the capital, we should keep working the Mines there, then finish the Barracks and build a mix of Chariots, Axemen, and Spearmen. We will be planning to go to war, so we'll want a lot of units. City 3 can remove the Library from the build queue. It can build a Granary and then can build Chariots without using a Barracks.

City 2, after building the Monument, will start building Chariots without a Barracks. At Size 3 and Size 4, we will work the Plains Forest squares instead of working Cottages. We want lots of Hammers to help build up an army.

One of the Chariots would explore a Coastal path to Pericles.

D) After building a Lighthouse in the capital, we should keep working the Mines there, then complete the Barracks and build 2 Chariots. One Chariot can go to protect City 2 while the other one can explore a Coastal path to Pericles. After building the 2 Chariots, build another Worker in the capital. After learning Math, we will learn Masonry. Once Masonry is learned, and once we have our new Worker, we will start building The Great Lighthouse in the capital. The extra Worker can be used to build Mines on top of the Forested squares to the west of our capital. The Math-enhanced Forest Chops can then go into The Great Lighthouse, to speed up its construction.

City 2 can aim to build a Library after whipping the Monument, and the Library can be 2-pop-whipped at City Size 4, with the eventual goal of regrowing the City to Size 4 and then hiring 2 Scientist Specialists there.

Okay, those are just some suggestions and like I said, you have a lot of options open to you at this stage of the game. So, just pick one option out of A), B), C), or D) and make it work! :)

Anyone who takes this long to play can only be the mole :p

Sorry, can't play my turnset right now. Someone can skip me.

Does anyone want to give any suggestion on a preferred course of action?
We have before us these options:
A) We could build a few Military Units and then expand to a couple of more City locations
B) We could build minimal Military Units (one for each City to act as City Defenders) and then work on building a Library in the capital and work on generating two early Great Scientists
C) We could build a lot of Military Units and plan to build up a force to attack an AI, to capture lands that are much better than the lands that we could peacefully settle into
D) We could go after a Wonder of the World (The Great Lighthouse), using the fact that we are about to complete research on Mathematics to give us stronger Forest Chops

Voting is now open!

:(

You tricked me!

Starting us off, we switch to working a 2nd Mine, since we'll grow into Unhappiness otherwise. We also queue up an army of doom!

We don't really need another Work Boat since we are going for Mosher's suggestion of building a stack of Military Units, which means focusing on Hammers instead of on Food, but a Work boat was already started and we were about to lose some of the Hammers invested in it, so I figured that we might as well just complete the Work Boat. Thus, after whipping the Monument, we completed the Work Boat and will next build a stack of Chariots.

Augusta could use a Granary, so we'll build that, followed by a stack of Chariots. If we are going to go to war, then let's make sure that we bring enough troops. We will need more troops that I have queued-up.

Math is in!

Our first Math-enhanced Forest Chop! Research has been set to Alphabet so that we can trade. After that, we should probably go for Currency, since we'll have both of its pre-requisite techs and it'll be a useful economy-recovering tech after going to war.

We micromanage Skowhegan to grow to Size 5 at the same time that the Unhappiness will wear off (2 turns from now).

Similarly, we micromanage Corinth to grow to Size 4 at the same time that the Unhappiness will wear off (4 turns from now).

Our exploring Chariot found a weakly-defended Barb City and killed 1 of the 2 Warriors in there. The Chariot is now healing, but next turn it should be an instant kill... Axeman versus Warrior? We can't lose, and even if we do, the Chariot can follow-up for the kill. We'll also get a free Worker out of the deal by the looks of it.

We want to set up some Trade Routes with Greece, which means that we need to uncover the hidden squares to the east of where our Warrior is located in Greece.

After Pasturing this Cow, we should Mine that Plains Hills square. Following that, we should build a Road to the NE towards Kublai Khan. Once we have about 10 troops gathered on top of that Cow, we should send those 10 troops towards Kublai in one fell swoop and then keep shuttling newly-built reinforcements in his direction. Hopefully, by then, we will have Foreign Trade Routes with Pericles. First, we have to fully map-out a Coastal access path to Pericles. Then, it would be nice to map out all of his lands with our Warrior, just to make sure that we get a connection to one of his Coastal Cities to enable the Foreing Trade Routes. That way, our economy won't die when we declare war on Kublai, since right now, we're relying on Kublai for all of our Foreign Trade Routes.

Good luck to the next player!

EDIT: See Message #324 for the saved game.

Alphabet is cheaper than the total cost of Agriculture + Masonry + Iron Working. We should, at a minimum, be able to get those techs in trade.

Any other tech trades will put us even further ahead of the game. Likely additional techs to get in trade include:
Archery, Meditation, Polytheism, and Priesthood.

Usually, you want to research Alphabet as soon as you can without hurting your Civ, which means that you first want to research all of the techs that your Workers need to use and all of the techs that will unlock Wonders that you plan to build.

Stonehenge, The Oracle, and The Great Wall have been built.

The vote was to build Military Units instead of a World Wonder, so we don't need Masonry just yet. We also don't have Stone, so we probably won't need to build either The Pyramids or The Hanging Gardens. Actually, that Barb City DOES have Stone, so maybe, later, we can build The Hanging Gardens.

But, it will be a while before that Barb City can build a Monument (that's the first thing that we should build there...and then whip it as soon as we are at City Size 2), so we won't need Masonry for a while... by that time, we should be close to finishing research on Alphabet, so Masonry can come for free as part of a trade.

I see no point in going for The Pyramids, but we can definitely plan to build The Hanging Gardens... but only after our Military Unit build-up (I'd build about 20 units) is complete.

I'm up? OK, I'll try to play tomorrow.

my computer decided that I can no longer open save files with BTS

I don't have time to figure it out at the moment.. so I guess I don't have a choice but stop participating

Restart your computer, like was suggested to you in another thread, and see if that works.

Hmmm, I wonder if it's somehow my fault. That's the second game that I played yesterday and tried to pass off the saved game where someone said that they couldn't load it. The problem could very well lie on MY end.

Kindly check if you can load the saved game before I played, and if you can, let me know, so that I can figure out what's wrong with my installation... if it's on my end, I'll probably need to reinstall, since I might have mucked around with a couple of files when I was trying to create the story of mine that involved the p-word.

Or, if someone else is kind enough, maybe they can check the same thing: to see if my uploaded file messes up while the previous player's file (hoplitejoe's) works for them. K thanks.
