Now if that is not Communism wrapped in music, then I am a Chinese jet pilot.

That's Budhism and Indian mysticism wrapped in music? Do you know anything about Eastern mysticism? About the abhorence of doing any harm to any living creature? About peaceful self imporvement, tolerance and compassion? It's Eastern mysticism. I suggest you find a few links to the faiths of the far east, it's no coincidence he started writing songs like this after meeting with Indian Gurus and Budhists such as the Dalhi llama. Communism is not about peace to your fellow man or tolerance and undersatnding, it's a political system not a spiritual one. Communism opposes outside influence or influence to any but Coimmunist countries which means it could never become a world power without the whole world becoming communist, something they acknowledged would never happen, particularly in the 60's and 70's.

I hope you enjoy your career in the Chinese Air Force ;)

Paul was quite talented, but tended towards cheesy.

Ringo "isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles" - he certainly wasn't the best narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine (Michael Angelis (sp ?) beats him hands down). His songs are lousy as well - Octopus's Garden ? Man, that sucks.

George was reasonably talented, if less so than McCartney. Few of George's songs live in the way that the best L-McC ones do (though I think he did write "Something" ?)

John was on a different level. Kind of like Dylan and Hendrix, you shouldn't need to like what he did, or share his politics, to recognise the talent.

John by a country mile.

I was always a Paul fan. Early, John was great too, but then he began to wig out. Paul always seemed to be more stable.

My early youth was filled of weekends sipping beer and listening to Beatles tunes endlessly.

John Lennon was too much of a Communist, for me.
And not enough for me.:mischief:
But he wrote "Working Class Hero" as well as other good texts, and gets my vote.
George Harrison was also pretty cool too,"Life of Brian" anyone?
I have no strong sentiments regarding Ringo Starr.
Paul McCartney though, was always a jerk.

Agreed. A cheesy, opportunistic, money hungry, wishy-washy, goody two shoes, slightly camp, definitely blow dry hairstyled, poncey, slushy songwriting, little wanker, is the terminology I would have used. But I can see a broad consensus between our opinions.

George, followed by Paul and then Jonh and then Ringo. The first 3 were all exceptional musicians, but Ringo is only so-so.

:goodjob: You know sir, that is partly due to your superior command of the English language. On Norwegian I might also come up with a Dantesque description of the dull deliquent.
By the way, who is the chin-guy? He has an uncanny resemblance to the Canadian snooker player Alain Robidoux.:crazyeye:

I fully realise the language issue so I thought I would echo your thoughts about St Paul in this language. :)

The man you ask about is Jimmy "The Chin" Hill. He is a much loved punch bag in the British sporting media, primarily famed for his chin, of course.

Jimmy Hill, though awfully arrogant, was a prime mover in breaking the wage restrictions in British professional football. Whilst the salaries now are indecent, those paid to Tom Finney and Stanley Matthews were also insulting, especially for a job which offers such a limited period of employment. Helluva chin though.

I guess this isn't the sports forum though. :(

On topic, I think you're a bit harsh on McC, Ram. Whilst he was working with Lennon, he clearly co-wrote some of the best songs of the last 50 years. Afterwards ? Well (all together now) "Band on the Run... Band on the Run...Band on the Run. We're a Band on the Run... Band on the Run.. " (repeat, ad nauseam)

I definitely prefer George Harrison of all the Beatles. I don't listen to the Beatles though. I just think the whole pop music, songwriting thing is so overexposed, to the detriment of real music. Sometimes I wonder how so much great music gets overlooked.

How the heck is George in last place??! While Lennon & McCartney may have written more of the singles (ok, all of the singles...), George managed to write some amazingly understated songs (here comes the sun is one of my favourites..) and most importantly, didn't become an egomaniac! Not to mention he managed to write some pretty nifty pop songs with a ukelele. If that's no talent, I don't know what is...

Chris Webber!

Oh. we're talking about the beatles!
I dont really have strong feeling towards any of them (or the band itself), with the exception of Ringo, who is just not a good drummer. There are several drummers on campus here who are technically better musicians

And here I thought the title was about the superheroes, not the musicians.

Then, Mr. Fantastic, hands down.

As composers, I would go for the couple John-Paul, if it is possible :D. They wrote wonderful songs when they worked together. As solo composers neither of them have done as good work as they did together.

As people, I would go for George. I don't like Paul's actitude and John was the typical hypocritical commie with loads of money and a bad actitude. Pretty much like Picasso.

BTW: I hate Yoko Ono because she was the cause of the end of The Beatles.

I don't really see the virtue in a man who hit his wife, cheated on her behind his back, and talked trash about his son.

Lennon, regardless of his music or his politics, was an absolutely terrible human being.

That's why we judge him as a musician and composer, not as a role model for the world. I know that's a bit hypocritical, seeing as I chose George based on his character, but I do think his compositions are just as good as McC/L's

Paul definitely was more of the balladeer, but he wasnt CHEESY, He was the best musician, he can sing great, he could play guitar, he played bass, he played drums when Ringo stormed out near the end, he played the flute thing in the beginning of Strawberry Fields. Yes he tended to write more love songs, but it was the perfect balance to John's experimental tendencies. Paul wasn't much of a preacher but he was a damn fine songwriter. I mean, if you are considered the "cute" member in the biggest band ever, you will get stuck up. He wrote Eleanor Rigby, he wrote Penny Lane, Sgt. Peppers(the album not the song) was his brainchild. His role was the balladeer, George was the spiritual one, and John avant-garde. Beethoven was a jerk, but that doesnt make him not a genius right?
