My question wan't "how" but "what". I don't remember Dale mentioning that it was a hash of the file! What I do remember him saying is that you needed a hash and that you could search for utilities to do it but it could have just as easily been a hash of the file name. I must admit my complete lack of understanding of why one would even need a hash in the first place other than "civ5 requires it" probably hindered my interpretation of what it was a hash of.
I knew AV signatures used them, but I didn't know that's what they were generally used for. My familiarly with hashes is mostly for password storage for web sites.
the modinfo file keeps a list of the mod files and their checksums, so if youd want to package it yourself outside of modbuddy, you'd have to include that
You really don't wanna know what the above words together spoofed up in my mind. Let's just say we coders can also have some sweet poke at particular bytes while our friendly neighbors gather for a trip down memory lane -- at times.
