Old Market Center, Shikoku refugee camp, Southern Japan, Korean Homeland...
Saturday.
The line of men coming for their allotment of food stretched out of the square. Soldiers armed with AN-94 assault rifles stood guard, ensuring there were no disturbances. All was quiet except for the shuffling of feet.
Near the head of the line, a young man turned back clutching the ticket which would allow him to claim a week's worth of consumable supplies for him and his three sisters. He began to walk out of the square to the consignment office, but he was stopped. A large man with many years on his belly seized the ticket, to which the young man responded with a punch before trying to take the slip of paper back. The two men scuffled over the tiny piece of paper in the dust.
Within a minute, three soldiers separated the two men, then methodically beat them with their rifles until they lay still, blood pooling from numerous wounds.
The line shuffled forward.
Ground Zero, Seoul, Korean Wasteland...
1st Lieutenant Anna Sinclair fired a burst from her assault rifle, cutting one of the hideous...things...which had killed her companions down. She paused for a moment to scan the devastated ruins of Seoul around her. Her mission had been to get to the crater to potentially retrieve a sample of the advanced Hawai'i'an nuke for the UN, but ever since the Hummvee had been smashed by a humanoid blob at least as large as it was, it had looked like it wasn't going to be. Both doctors had died in that incident, and the two mentally deficient corporals she had been saddled with had fallen in an ambush of what looked like oversized fluorescent cockroaches. She shook her head angrily, then dashed across the ruined street towards the ruins of a fancy church.
She paused to scan the route ahead of her, and then began to run towards the crater. Suddenly, she noticed a giant hunk of metal in front of her. Upon slightly closer inspection, she noticed a propeller sticking off it in the distance.
That's a ship. She thought breathlessly. Then she noticed that the ship, clearly a military vessel, was crawling with hundreds of cockroaches.
Anna turned around and retraced her steps to the church.
With that route blocked, the only way to the crater without leaving Seoul is through the palace. she realized. Without a moment's hesitation, she ran for the palace.
Somewhere in the Korean Wasteland...
She walked endlessly, one foot in front of the other. Until she tripped, that is. She fell into a small pool of irradiated water. The shock woke something within her as it splashed on the exposed bone of her left arm.
The cockroach, being the illogically persistent predator it is, waited at the edge of the pool for its prey to come out. Suddenly, a form rushed out of the water and seized the roach despite its sharp jaws. The form tossed the roach onto its back, then batted at the roach's antennae. The cockroach quickly turned itself back upright, but refrained from attacking.
The form began its long walk back to Seoul to finish its duty for the return of its fellows, and the cockroach walked alongside its new master all the way.
HAHAHA you should do stand-up!
