The Narrator

Beyond Earth has a female narrator, but it didn't grab much attention. Many folks who play Civ6 and are excited for Civ7 have forgotten it.
Beyond Earth is widely derided as one of the worst Civ games, and it always had niche appeal (unlike Civ itself), so I'm not terribly surprised. I don't think that blunts my point re female narrator.

I took a while to fully understand it, but I kind of love BE now. With Rising Tide, I believe it to be a good game. With another expansion, it could have been a great one.

I think Sean Bean and Natasha Loring sounded really good in CIV VI:king:. Going forward to CIV VII, if Firaxis chooses a female voice for main narrator I would like to hear Ellen Mclain or, if one can dream even further, why not Kate Mulgrew?

Kate Mulgrew already did Dragon age so that's probably well within the realms of possibility. And would work pretty well too I think.

I definitely think it's time for a female narrator. Or as mentioned above, multiple ones for different styles and moods.

That said, Sean Bean wasn't too bad. Only a few quotes I feel like he had the wrong delivery.

And no offense to the British, but I don't think an English accent is necessary all the time. Give us something different. At least with Nimoy we got an American voice. I would be okay with a French accented voice actually. It's about time.

Sean Bean actually has quite a Minority accent as far as England goes?

You could have a Londoner narrating, of course. Londoners don't have an "accent". What they speak IS English!!!!

And anyways - Morgan Freeman!

Somewhere in another thread someone suggested Shohreh Aghdashloo and I can't think of a better suggestion since then...
Yeah, that would work. I still keep Cate Blanchett as my first pick, but would be very happy about Shohreh Aghadashloo as well.

I think that's her in the Ara announcement trailer:

Yorkshire is (historically) our biggest county, so big that in fact they split it into a few different counties. The accent is pretty popular / well-known, what's rarer is for actors / actresses to keep it (especially as broad as it is) given the length of time Bean's been acting for.

I don’t like the Civ 6 narration too much, both in terms of the writing and the performance. My favorite was Civ 5.

As for who will narrate Civ 7, a lot of people seem to think we’ll get a female narrator this time.

I would love a female narrator but I would strongly dislike (and most likely turn off) anyone with the style of voice Shohreh Aghadashloo has (or the Civ V narrator for that matter). They sound so raspy all their lines come across jumbled to me, and I feel myself straining to listen to them.

I think it's high time we had a female narrator, or more than just one or two narrators generally. The Civ V teaser led me to think they would have multiple voice actors doing the narration, but alas, that hasn't really been the case has it.

I think Cate Blanchett's voice would be amazing for a female narrator. If we are getting a male narrator, another Australian, John Noble, would be my pick.

I loved the female narration in Civ BE and would love to see a proper female voice actor get the part. Cate Blanchett would also be great, but I still prefer voice actors over actors that get the part because they are famous.

My guess is she’s unlikely since she’s been hired by the competition (Ara) for that trailer.

But I won’t abide this disrespect of William Morgan Sheppard! Just kidding, but in all seriousness he’s my favorite Civ narrator ever. I just love his delivery and I think the writing in Civ 5 was the best the series has had to date, so that helps too.

I suppose that it says something about me, that I don't know the names of many female voice actors.

I can think of lots of female actors whose voices I enjoy, including: Fiona Shaw, Lupita Nyong'o, Michelle Yeoh, Octavia Spencer, Judi Dench, Rosario Dawson, Anne Hathaway.
