The new patch seems to have arrived

OT: Actually they are pushing unfinished games to the console space, as consoles now have Hard disks and internet connection.

I really hate/blame Microsoft of pushing the PC-lite model of console game on us.

I have my console games, which I expec to be polished and take full advantage of a console's power (closed systems makes clever programming and grabbing every once out of hardware possible) and my complex PC games.

I like to keep them separate.

Updated, and my save from yesterday doesn't work anymore (deluxe version with Babylon if thats really the reason). Too bad, was a nice game.

Anyway, nice to see the updates! :goodjob:

Have you tried

Troubleshooting

The first thing you should always try after a patch is released that causes issues for you is to verify the integrity of your game cache. To do this, right click on Sid Meier's Civilization V in Steam and go to Properties. On the Local Files click Verify Integrity of Game Cache...

Im curious if that fixes it as Im at work and have the DD version of the game as well..

Well, this is annoying as hell. I was excited about the Single Player Scorelist option as I missed that from Civ 4. However, I turn it on at the beginning of a new game, and it shows me right off the bat who my opponents are! In Civ4, it would only show you who you had met so far.

So, for me anyway, this new option is totally worthless.

Didn't help me. Verified it, said one file failed and would be reacquired, little box in the bottom right says that Civ V has finished DLing (assuming it was that one file), verified again, same error message. Tried to load up a save...save error issue.

I was on about turn 630 in a marathon game, and since the patch, lag between turns for me has been reduced like it was on turn one!! I do not have the deluxe version.

Or he just understands the complexities involved and displays patience. Throwing tomatoes and egging Firaxis's house is just as counter-productive. Maybe even moreso, since they have to take the time to "clean up" the mess.

Exactly, I am by no means defending the practice of releasing games that should still be in beta testing, but I also understand the factors that cause this to happen. Trust me if it were up to the game developers they would spend much more time polishing games before they are released. However, to achieve such feat would mean that by the time a complex game like Civ5 was released the developer would be bankrupt. Unfortunately, the major reason why games are released with so many issues these days has more to do with meeting the deadline assigned by the publisher. If you really want someone to blame for the state of Civ 5 upon release it would make more sense to flame 2k games for being unflexible with deadlines like every other publisher these days.

Aside from all that, it is impossible these days to find every bug and exploit in a game that relies heavy upon the performance of an AI before it is released.

For those (like myself) with the save game problem for (presumably) the deluxe edition, then hang onto the save for a while longer. In fairness to Firaxis within a couple of minutes of me posting a problem someone from Firaxis had PM'd asking for a zip save so they could take a look and try and resolve the problem.

Assuming I'm understanding you right, that is very good news. :)

Please let us know how it goes, as I am interested in how they handle this.

I may have spoken too soon on the reduced between turn lag improvement. I am noticing some turns are processed faster than others.

Wrong why?
If we keep accepting unfinished games, the devs will never learn.
If noone complains no more effort in releasing finished games will be made.

My point is, to defend it is counter-productive, you're making excuses for something that will ultimately just result in even more unfinished desperate-need-for-patches products to be released in the future. :goodjob:
If we EXPECT games to be unfinished, and in need of 2-3 patches 5 months after release to be feature / balance finished, the developers will ALSO expect that, and take it for granted, even include it in their development and release schedule. If we however stop making excuses for something we pay for (our money should be enough support, they dont need our emotional support too), then the devs will also see the error in releasing stuff that NEEDS patches to be finished.

Moderator Action: Let's keep this thread on the subject of this patch, and put conversation on quality of the game in one of the other numerous threads on that subject.

I don't know if the patch itself is responsible, but two additional options popped up on the play the game menu -- one for the soundtrack, and one for a "making of" video. :hmm:

The lesson learnt is to turn auto updating off because the developers aren't going to help in regards to playing older files. Finish your games, then update.

I do a lot of post production video work and we have this ability to direct the program at certain files and reconnect media &c... I'm sure video games can do the same thing. So when patching, moving the old system files to a different folder so older saves can access them wouldn't be an innovation. At least an option for us that have the TBs of hard drive space to have duplicate files. Make old "patches" a MOD maybe?

Of course, I'm burnt by this because I don't have time to start another game. Some people can only play monthly if not bimonthly. It will be a sad bunch of weeks...

okay, maybe I'll blow off a client for one more turn.
Spoiler :
(Not really my clients, the charity work would go first)
