Yeah.. forget talking about military on the internet.
Apparently this one American solider is like Rambo. And the 100 Chinese are like Russians.
People are badly informed about war, they just shove unto us statistics and numbers.. Fourth Generation, less "smart" smart bombs...

America will never win another war. The democracy will forbid it. They will whine as soon as 1000 Americans die, look at Iraq.. the whining started when just 100 soliders died!
And the NATO "Allies" are even worse.
We Canadians just had our 100th casualty, and we spend millions of dollars making pointless memorials for these 100 causalities.

This is the reality of war in the West. The West has no stomach for war and will preemptively capitulate.

The West is dead and weak.
Too bad for you that the US has won numerous wars since Viet Nam. Kind of takes a dump all over your argument. Especially since it's the mass media that makes fighting prolonged wars difficult, rather than democracy. In case you hadn't noticed, the US was a democracy during both World Wars, Korea, Viet Nam, the War of 1812, the Spanish-American War, etc..

And for a culture that is "dead," the West seems fairly lively to me. Must be that whole 'total domination of global culture and finance' thing. Yeah, that's it. Which kind of makes wars, oh, I don't know, unnecessary and unprofitable.

This is like saying that the EU is a revival of the Third Reich. Which, come to think of it, the British tabloids have been saying for a while now. Take from that what you will.
Not just those nutters. I've known Czechs and Norwegians to say the same.

Yeah, I've never quite understood that weird Bronze Age logic that dictates all power be expressed through military means. Even Rome got sick of wars eventually, and that was about the closest thing to we've ever had to a pan-continental fascist state.

It's not likely that it would serve as a new USSR (and it most certainly would not be communist), but I wouldn't be surprised if the Union State expanded and became a formal expression of the Russian sphere of influence/bloc in regional geopolitics. It would not be a true union (that much is certain), but with the Kremlin serving as a guiding (OK controlling) hand, it would certainly work as a way of coordinating foreign policy among Moscow's allies.

I actually had the Union State serve more or less this function in a semi-far-fetched Model UNSC simulation set in 2017; unfortunately, Russia did nothing with it. Sigh.
