He just needs some Tom Petty love.

This is like saying that the EU is a revival of the Third Reich. Which, come to think of it, the British tabloids have been saying for a while now. Take from that what you will.

Yep. Whenever Russians do something to improve it's economy or relationships with neighbors suddenly it's Russia trying to restore Soviet Union, suddenly it's Putin mastering a plan to conquer the world. I'm sick and tired of this, it's not even funny anymore...

I voted possible but extremly unlikely. I'm not the best on my Russian politics but it is my understanding Putin is sort of setting himself up as an autocrat and that there has been a growing communist/stalinist movement in Russia. It would be more just dictatorial than any sort of Marxist system as these nutjobs seem to think Stalinism is a good idea.
So basicaly Russias economic instability, ethnic divisions, and Putins increasing autocratic rule will likely lead to an unstable Russia which will might end up going a dictatorial way. After all, whenever there is economic, social, and political unrest dictators tend to come to power.

Um, no...

There does seem to be a certain resentful tone to this sort of thing, like Westeners are annoyed that Russia isn't acting like the "loser" they have deemed it to be. "We beat you", they seem to cry, "so start acting beaten!"

Can you link me a few sources please.

Well, I can Google the words "EU Third Reich", because that's just about all I can be bothered to do to validate a flippant remark, but even that manages to provide...

Daily Mail: The secret report that shows how the Nazis planned a Fourth Reich ...in the EU

So, yeah...

Edit: And for any tl;dr-ers who are feeling sceptical, the article ends with the sentence "But these three typewritten pages are a reminder that today's drive towards a European federal state is inexorably tangled up with the plans of the SS and German industrialists for a Fourth Reich - an economic rather than military imperium", which makes the whole thing pretty damn explicit.

Oh my. Do people actualy believe that? The conclusions reached by the article requires quite a large leap of faith.

4th Reich right. Not a third. so lol
I'd accuse you of engaging in semantic quibbling rather than addressing the issue, but even that's not true, you're just wrong. I said "revival of the Third Reich", which, I would have thought was obvious, is a Fourth Reich. How is that difficult?

I mean, really, if you're going to pick holes and my posts, at least try.

Nope, I don't accept that. I picked and I won. You claim tabloids have announced the EU is a third-reich when pressed, you come up with the "4th reich" and try and write aload of rubbish to get yourself out of it.

Just accept your own self-described flippant statement is a creation of your own mind and retract it..;)

Wait, so, let me get this straight: I am wrong because "revival of third" is a different way of expressing the word "fourth" than "fourth", and you simply cannot accept that. Wow. Yeah. That's... That's some great debating skills you've got there, Quackers. Simply astounding.

You should of just said 4th reich then right?

I make no claim to being a debating genius, you can make all the personal insults you want. Your consistently anti-English message is just annoying. Reading some of your posts I may as well slit my throat for the vicious xenophobic, little Englander you claim all the English are.

Well, not, not really- the comparison I was making was to a supposed revival of the Soviet Union, so it made more sense to specify a "revived Third Reich" than a "Fourth Reich". The two are, after all, implicitly identical; the "Third Reich" itself was intended as a revival of the Second Reich, a label used by the Nazi Party to refer to the German Empire. 3 + 1 = 4, and so and so forth.

Wait, what? How do you get from an Englishman criticising a tabloid to an anti-English bigot criticising all Englishmen? I really don't understand the mental leaps involved there.

The Soviet Union was never known as the third Reich. It was Nazi Germany.

Maybe your doing it subconciously. But in many of your posts I sense a brooding resentment of England and the English people. I mean it is genuinely bigoted. Your motivation is even clearer, your obsession with your own ethno-relgious identity probably leads to some ingrained hostility to Anglo-Saxons.

Yes, I am aware of that. If you look at my original post- as you clearly have done, at some point- I said that calling the new customs union a "new Soviet Union" was like calling the EU a "revived Third Reich". A simile, yes? I assume you know what they are?

What on earth are you talking about, you strange little man?

For a patriotic Englishman, Quackers, you sure seem to have the loosest grasp of your motherland's grammar.

Fortunately thats not the criteria for patroitic Englishman ;)

Russia is acting like the loser it actually is.

Well, that was deep, Patroklos. I can throw random insults too.

Excuse me? The Chinese have no blue water navy at all. Literally none. They have a few aircraft carriers in development, but they're behind India in naval strength and technology, let alone the US. This claim of your that China has the world's second-largest navy is a "fact" on par with the "fact" you reported in another thread, that after WWII the RAAF was the "world's largest air force." I think the US, USSR and UK may have liked a word with you on that one, fella.

That's right. Most of the Chinese navy consists of lighter boats like coastal frigates and such. And the 60-some submarines they purchased from the Russians, of which only a fraction were operable.

The Chinese economy is interdependent with the US. That is, if one goes bankrupt or suffers an economic collapse, so does the other. According to a lot of different sources - I don't know if they're completely accurate or not, you'd need someone with ore economic knowledge than I for this, like JerichoHill or Masada - China owns more US currency than the US does. The collapse of the American dollar would crush them, and an American blockade of China would cause considerable depreciation in its own currency. A pretty vicious cycle that, which guarantees that neither side will go to war with one another except in the most egregious circumstances, such as a war over Taiwan.

I've found myself wishing the Chinese would dump American currency to depress the dollar and make manufacturing domestically more favorable. Might not be able to afford as many trips to Europe, but it would put all our unemployed brothers and sisters back to work. And a better exports to imports ratio would help us pay off that national debt.

It's like talking to a wall... :wallbash:

Yes that was deep indeed.
The synergy of that comment and his avatar is amazing...
