The Nobles' Club Bullpen: Third Cycle

The third cycle begins on October 28, four weeks from today. We have a request for Ragnar; anyone care to suggest more leaders for the first round?

Saladin and Wang Kong :D

I think he normally tries to space out similar traits, so of those two, Saladin is most likely to come up after Ragnar.

Personally, I'd like to see Peter get a run after the last one was an meant to be an OCC. A real Peter map could be interesting.

As for leaders for the third round, maybe we could start with Elizabeth again? Or another fininical/philosophical leader. We started with Inca last time. Or mabey we could change it up a bit and start with monty, he's always fun to play as.

Monty is Agg/Spi, which means he'll have to be postponed slightly, if we have Ragmar Agg/Fin. Similarly for any Fin leader like Elizabeth -- but Peter is Phi, so that takes care of half of what i_imperator wanted.

How about the following lineup (Round 1 has 6 so has to duplicate one of the 11 traits. Round 2 will have 5 when done). This puts one of the three leaders for each of Russia and America early; last cycle they all got crowded towards the end.
round 1:
Peter the Great (Exp/Phi) -- a Normal map this time!
Saladin (Pro/Spi)
Louis XIV (Cre/Ind)
Julius Caesar (Imp/Org)
Ragnar (Agg/Fin) Islands, low sea level, hoping for a bit of connectivity.
Lincoln (Cha/Phi)

round 2: (both further after Ragnar, maybe 3rd and 4th)
Montezuma (Agg/Spi)
Wang Kon (Fin/Pro)

Sounds good.

Looks good :goodjob:

If there are two free slots before Monty and Wang in Round 2, it would probably make sense to have at least one American leader in there (since there are three in total, and it's nice to have one civ's leaders spaced out throughout the cycle...).

Wang's traits overlap with all three English leaders, unfortunately. A German leader might work well.

I presume you meant English instead of American since Lincoln, last time I looked, was American and the rest of your message talks about the English. Wang was just one suggestion, albeit with moderate priority since somebody already asked for him. If it makes sense to have Elizabeth (Phi/Fin) instead (another recent request) we could postpone Wang until round 3.

The one thing I'd change is Lincoln to Washington, considering how recent the Lincoln game was. That still only duplicates one trait, just a different one.

Oh sorry. I didn't see Lincoln at the foot of the first round. My bad.

Yeah, it might make sense to delay Wang in favor of Elizabeth.

Forgot how recent Lincoln was. Washington looks OK.
Edit: thus the current proposal is
round 1:
Peter the Great (Exp/Phi) -- a Normal map this time!
Saladin (Pro/Spi)
Louis XIV (Cre/Ind)
Julius Caesar (Imp/Org)
Ragnar (Agg/Fin) Islands, low sea level, hoping for a bit of connectivity.
Washington (Cha/Exp)

round 2:
?
?
Montezuma (Agg/Spi)
Elizabeth (Fin/Phi)
?
(need Cha Cre Imp Ind Org Pro)

It's tough to get all 6 traits without repeating civs, best I can do is:-

round 1:
Peter the Great (Exp/Phi) -- a Normal map this time!
Saladin (Pro/Spi)
Louis XIV (Cre/Ind)
Julius Caesar (Imp/Org)
Ragnar (Agg/Fin) Islands, low sea level, hoping for a bit of connectivity.
Washington (Cha/Exp)

round 2:
Cyrus (Cha/Imp)
Gilgamesh (Cre/Pro)
Montezuma (Agg/Spi)
Elizabeth (Fin/Phi)
Roosevelt (Ind/Org) -> maybe make this one the unusual map in this round??

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll consider it if I can't find another combo that works. Part of the problem is that some open combinations of traits give leaders for recently-played countries -- like Catherine for cre/imp. I managed to avoid duplication for most of the last round and would like to keep it up if possible -- but it may not always be possible.

Is "avoid recent country" more important or less important than "avoid recent trait"?

Revised schedule:
round 1:
Peter the Great (Exp/Phi) -- a Normal map this time!
Louis XIV (Cre/Ind)
Saladin (Pro/Spi)
Julius Caesar (Imp/Org)
Ragnar (Agg/Fin) Islands, low sea level, hoping for a bit of connectivity.
Washington (Cha/Exp)

round 2:
Charlemagne (Imp/Pro)
Zara Yaqob (Cre/Org)
Montezuma (Agg/Spi)
Elizabeth (Fin/Phi)
De Gaulle (Cha/Ind)
This repeats France after 8 intermediate leaders, which seems like a reasonable gap to me. Marvinlegend expressed interest in creating the next map, and I've claimed Ragnar because he's our "unusual" map type this round and I have certain properties I want to ensure for it.
