I recently saw a movie trailer about this new movie. Its apparently about a man who has constant references to the number 23 all throughout his life, shown to the viewer in a way that you dont know if its real, or some type of mental illness.

My question to the masses here is do you have a certain number that hounds you? Because I think I might and sometimes it drives me crazy.

Now let me be straight about it. Logic would say that its just me imagining things, however, its hard for me to logically explain how a particular number continually seems to turn up for me in my life.

My particular number is 213. Here are the types of coincedences I see happening all the time.

1. The house I was born in had the address 213 Elm Street.
2. I often wake up in the middle of the night at...you guessed it - 2:13 am.
3. Just last night I was watching an episode of CSI and a door number to a cell was 213.
4. I bought my current house two years ago and no..the address does not have a 213 on it. However, after I had lived there for 6 months I noticed the telephone pole at the corner of my lot has a marker number on it. That number is 213.

It also routinely shows up in other ways as well. Scores for games. Cost of a purchase.

Now this doesnt happen constantly...nor every day, but I would have to say I spot a reference to the number 213 at least once a week as a minimum. Just enough for me to notice it.

I feel silly even pointing it out and it has practically become a game for me. Then I saw the movie preview for this movie and it made me think. Are their other people with their particular 'number' that follows them? Are we crazy? Or just noticing an insignificant coincedence?

By all means please discuss.

You see numbers all the time, you chose to notice one number more for some reason thats all.

Same how if a stranger calls out your name, or you see it written it has more effect than shouting "fred" at you or whatever.

I never knew you were a fan of Discordianism, MobBoss.

It's because the number is in your mind.

You routinely see a lot of other numbers, but you sub-conciously discard them. However, when you see the number 213, because it has some sort of special significance to it, you pick up on it, and conciously think about it.

I'd bet, for example, that you wake at a whole variety of times, but it's only the ones where you woke at 2:13 that you remember, as a concequence of its sigificance.

Jesus is sending you a message from on high saying he loves you.

Ok, now I am going to have to go look that up.

Well, to be honest I didnt use to notice it at all. Heck, I cant recall when I did start noticing it though.....I want to say it was sometime in my late 20s. I always just dismissed it as a quirk....that is until I saw the movie trailer. Hehe.

Jesus tells me your trolling. Stop it.

23 is the number following me around, and frankly the movie commercials are freaking me out.

Heh, cool! Nice to know I am not the only one.

@Bill3000. That Discordianism stuff was a hoot. Funny, funny stuff. But I dont see how it refers to this particular numerology situation since its not revolving around the number '5'.

Consider for a couple of days just exactly how many numbers you are exposed to. If a number is present in your mind for some reason, it's natural for your brain to highlight it if it notices it anywhere, one of the main traits the human brain has is the ability to spot patterns.

Edit: an example for me would be that Hitchhikers has left the number 42 indelibly imprinted on my mind. I see an example of the number 42 every week or two I would guess.

My dorm room in college was #213 and it was during the year in which I lived in that room that I lost the last of my Christian beliefs.

213 is the number that has occasionally followed me around too... 213 was the number of the bus I rode to school when I was a kid, and it showed up in many places.... Less so nowadays :p

I've known some Discordians, and a lot of their talks was over 23, not 5. It's diverse, anyway. Besides, in the same article:

According to the Principia Discordia, POEE is "a tribe of philosophers, theologians, magicians, scientists, artists, clowns, and similar maniacs who are intrigued by Eris goddess of confusion and her doings." Furthermore it states that "POEE subscribes to the Law Of Fives of Omar's sect" and "POEE also recognizes the Holy 23."

Selective perception is a powerful thing. I have a test for you to do, pick another number at random. Say 157. Or pick something easily remembered, like the last 3 digits of your phone number. See how often this number appears in the next month, and compare it to how often the number 213 does. It will likely take a bit of effort to check numbers, everytime you see one, it will probably also be more convincing if you have 6 or so numbers to check. You will probably need to make the effort to always check the numbers on your grocery bill, the scores for games, etc, for the numbers you have chosen. I predict that any of these 3 digit numbers will appear an approximately equal number of times, and 213 is only relevant to you because you are noticing it, and remembering it far more easily, not because it is appearing more.

Do you notice them the moment you see them? Or do you remember afterwards, "Hey, that was 213."?

Form of OCD, although so minor, most people see certain numbers as significant, such as 13, the time 13:13 or whatever, it's human nature in a way. We're very adept at picking out patterns.

7 or 4 and the colour blue, everytime I think about whether God exists If I see blue it's a sign, it's about 50/50 though :(

see what I mean ^^^^:)

Once you see any number as significant it becomes something you subconciously pick up on, so any time it appears you think it's correlatory but really your just paying more import to that pattern. 23 though are both primes. If God was showing him a sign it's very mathematical.

You often wake up before your alarm clock goes off, and you often wake up when you have a time in mind, your body clock is very sophisticated, but of course, how many times have you woken up at 4:13 and not remembered it?

It's coincidence, unless it happens very regularly then your just mad ;)

Mob Boss 213 are all primes :) just to f with your mind :crazyeye:
