athens 2004 is coming soon, let's make some predictions about possible outcomes!

this is not about terrorist threats, and no political debates or attacking other nations please

please make predictions on

1. top 5 countries with the most medals
2. which country will win the most gold medals
3. which country will provide the biggest surprise (example, palestine wins a medal)
4. what event are you most looking foward to watching
5. your prediction about one thing of your choice

i'll start
1. top 5 will be USA, russian, china, germany, britain
2. USA will win the most gold
3. iraq wins a medal in boxing
4. looking foward to track and field, especially the running and jumping events
5. i think the marathon record may be broken. there's a tradition thing going on, and athens doesn't have a high elevation. weather may be very hot though

I think the US, Russia, China, and Australia will be intop 5.
I'm looking forward to the running track and field events. I want to see the athletes completely demoralize me by being at least 3 seconds ahead in every running event I do. BTW, does anyone know which running events will be there?

1. USA,Russia,China,Canada,France
2. USA
3. Afganistan wins some medal
4. all of them
5. an other judging scandal will happen

Let's hope the Olymics actually happen, lazy Greeks.;)

How can anyone possibly believe that either Britain or Canada will be in the top 5? I don't mean to bash either country- but really- it just isn't feasible.

i thought britain was quite strong in past olympics? maybe just wrong perception on my part

1. USA, Russia, China, Germany, Greece
2. USA
3. ...
4. Soccer
5. more scandals

1. most medals: USA, Russia, Germany, China, Ukrain
2. most gold medals: USA
3. Surprise of the games: Bulgaria will not win one single medal in weight lifting :p
4. I'm looking foward seeing: Track&field, especially shot put, which takes place in the old stadium.
5. Additional: Doping takes four steps foward

1.USA, Australia, Russia, Germany, Briatain
2.USA
3.Ireland takes Gold in Boxing
4.I like boxing, weighlifting, and swimming
5.France will atempt to boycott the Olympics due to irreconcilible differences with the United States. And also, China won't win jack, despite communist/dominating frame of mind.

dang they are pretty far down the list. it is interesting how close some of the top countries are. and the aussies look surprisingly strong

1. Russia, USA, China, Germany, Australia
2. USA
3. Equitorial Guinea manages to swim the 100m freestyle faster than I can!
4. The hockey (mens and womens, twin gold for Australia!) and the cycling (surprised me as a great spectator sport at Sydney).
5. Thorpy wins the 400m

In recent Olympic games, the Aussies are always in the top 6 or so (and yes I'm Australian). In fact this time round we've qualified in just one less team event than Greece (which gets auto. qualification in everything as the host).
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.......

1. top 5 will be USA, russia, china, germany, australia
2. USA will win the most gold
3. Greece finishes the stadium >_>
4. looking foward to all the sports, rather then competitions
5. i think the stadium will be finished the day before the olympics start

1) USA, China, Russia, Australia, Germany
2) USA gets most gold
3) The Greek baseball team makes the medal round
4) Volleyball (normal & beach)
5) Cheryl Haworth recovers from her elbow injury and brings home the women's weightlifting gold to Savannah :)

Prediction: A Kenyan guy will win some track and field event.

That's going out on a limb... :mischief:

USA will win the most medals and I'm most looking forward to track and field.

Really? That's very interesting!

Undoubtly, the top three countries are still the USA, Russia and China. Behind that, Germany, France and Italy are always doing quite good. I'm not sure whether Australia can keep up the fourth place, but they'll still be good. I hope the Netherlands can keep a spot in the top 10, but that 8th place last time was really a great performance. It was a 15th spot in Atlanta, which is obviously still pretty good for such a small country.
