the "once and for all!" topic

#63: Razing cities in the early game is not supposed to produce a handful of game-breaking partisans. This has been determined to be a bug in 3.13, and fixed in bhruic's patch % the HOF mod (now it only happens if city owner is running under emancipation). Yet another reason to install the unofficial mod.

#64: When moving up a level, be prepared (for some playing styles, for some level jumps) to sometimes face something more than "greater challenge." Some "monochromatic" playing styles (e.g. be a builder and never an aggressor in war) simply become untenable to win above a certain level. IMO (learned the hard way).

#65 If you play BTS into a later tech tree era, you are really missing something if you have not yet come to know "The Power of Sushi"

---

BTW, I don't think #56 is true any more, not in BTS (the AI was changed to be more unpredictable).

#69- Industrious looks shiny but is a bad trait for anything past Monarch.

#70- The 'missing' trait combinations are PHI/IND (clearly overpowered), CRE/CHA (mediocre at best), and ORG/PRO (anything with protective is a lame duck).

Off topic but I would love Cre/Cha

I was just pondering that very thing. Sure, they work against each other to some extent early on, since Cha provides an extra happiness from monuments, and the biggest immediate benefit of Cre is that you don't have to build monuments, but I still think I agree with you. Cha lets you warmonger early and often, both by allowing you to produce superior units and by giving the one free happy face to (a) allow more pop and thus more production in your unit-producing cities and (b) offset a little bit of unhappiness for war, and Cre lets conquered cities work the full fat cross earlier. Half-price theaters isn't that great, because by the time you're building them in conquered/border cities, they probably only take a few turns at full price, but Cre's half-price libraries can double the culture in your new cities and also help keep your tech rate up while your economy adjusts to your new conquests. All in all, I think that could be an interesting combo.

#73: Don't underestimate the power of trade embargos (request an AI to break trade with another AI). Forcing/Requesting an AI to declare a war is expensive but trade embargo requests can be cheaper. They lower relations between AIs (many times the difference from pleased to cautious) which is nice for your war plan. Your foe looses a friend and you may gain one ally in the future :D

Now that I think about it its funny that the AI does request alot the famous trade-embargo from you but I don't recall of "we" being the target of those embargos! . Does anyone has experienced trade embargos? An AI does break a single trade once an a while but I don't recall of they breaking all the trade at once...

By Monarch you mean Settler, right?

Off topic but I would love Cre/Cha

Cre/Chm?

Sorry :p

#71 "pulling a kmad" (getting a GG from privateers without war) refers to the user KMadCandy, not the user kmad.

Good one.

And now one I'm surprised hasn't come up yet:
No, gold is not the same as commerce, goddammit!

#74 This thread will eventually descend into the 2nd 3rd 4th page etc and we'll get a new one, because as already mentioned no-one ever uses the search function

#75 Harry Redknapp is staying at Pompey.

Actually Diamondeye's was #74. But we're still on the right track because #74 from AlessioCerci wasn't really once and for all. It might not. And if it does, we might not get a new one.

And what does #75 have to do with anything?

#78 civ IV vanilla means the game without any expansion packs (which are warlords and beyond the sword)

#79 when you boast about how you slaughtered/pwned/etc/etc... the AI, how you *usually* fight your wars with tanks vs lbows, etc, etc,
you should think twice about it, do somethin else in order not to annoying anyone and move a level up

#80: There will always be stupid people asking stupid questions.

#81: There will always be stupid people making stupid complaints about stupid people asking stupid questions.

#82: Those who believe that use of the SEARCH function is the cure to all stupid questions obviously has never used it.

#83: Anyone who consistently writes "loose" when they mean "lose" needs to have their head hit with a hammer until it smarts. Anyone who writes "could of", "should of", or "would of" when they mean "could've", "should've", or "would've" needs to be removed from the genepool by the most painful means possible.

#84: Yes, there IS still room for another expansion pack, but I wouldn't count on getting it.

#85: Yes, you ARE paying to be a beta-tester. If you don't want to do that, exercise a little self-control, take a little self-responsibility, and wait a year or so after release; by then it'll have the game-breaking bugs fixed and be in the $10 bin.

#86: You are hereby authorized to SPELL-CHECK YOUR POSTS. I know it doesn't catch everything, but it does reduce the odds of you looking like a fool and having your desperate plea for help ignored because no one can take the time to translate gibberish to English.

#87: You are hereby authorized to hit the ENTER key twice between paragraphs so they can be read. Most people know this, but there's still plenty who don't. You now have permission.

#88: If no one answers your arcane question in 30 minutes, you are NOT authorized to post "why won't anyone answer?" type posts every 30 minutes. The MINIMUM time you should wait for someone to post is 1 day, though this may be longer when no one else's threads have been responded to either. We don't all live here, you know, and maybe your question or topic was uninteresting or too arcane for anyone to know the answer.

#90 When I suggested that all posts after mine in the Funny Screenshots thread must either have a picture or a comment about a picture and then [name deleted] posted "Gread idea!", THAT, MY FRIENDS, IS A PERFECTLY GOOD REASON TO BREAK THE RULES!!

#91 Not everyone in here has English as native language...... So have a little patience. And BTW there are a lot of good players that write in gibberish ( Mutineer comes to mind )....
