the "once and for all!" topic

#91 Not everyone in here has English as native language...... So have a little patience. And BTW there are a lot of good players that write in gibberish ( Mutineer comes to mind )....

D'oh, seems someone beat me to writing this. Especially since I've just read acid 04 (warlords deity domination attempt) and I must say it doesn't make it easy to read a post but if you can't write/speak English perfectly, post anyway, as actually using the languege like in forums, not only in school (if) helps you immensly in increasing your English skills

#92 don't ask AGAIN what SE/CE is (-> Search function)

#93 don't cry when some of the known maniacs (as Monty, Shaka, Alex, Caesar, Boudica, Cathy, Khan, Joao, Ragnar, Toku) just wiped out your civ, when having nearly any military but a TON of wonders

#94 Words less SE and CE aren't searchable.

I can. Just use that textbox (on the upper right side of the page, just under the 'Site Navigation' bar and right of the CivFanatics-Logo), enter SE/CE/wathever you like and press enter..

It doesn't seem to work as advertised though; you can count less on 99.x% chances than you should be able to. This works both ways though, so there's nothing truly unfair if you know you need to take the stated odds with a grain of salt.

I'm pretty sure this is not correct with the latest patches. Earlier, there were problems with first strike but it does work correctly, as advertised now.

Best wishes,

Breunor

#94. It's good you know how to shorten words, but when people see your topic, they wonder "what the heck is SE/CE" or "What is rexing?"
Seriously, try and use the actual meaning at the start and put the initial in brackets. Then people will not ask those questions when they see it later on in the topic

#96 Harbajan Singh us a song you racist pig, you abused my friend Andrew Symonds.

This list actually started out as useful FAQ-type list, but starting with #80 I'm not sure anything else useful has come out ...

#83: Anyone who consistently writes "loose" when they mean "lose" needs to have their head hit with a hammer until it smarts. Anyone who writes "could of", "should of", or "would of" when they mean "could've", "should've", or "would've" needs to be removed from the genepool by the most painful means possible.

#98 Anyone using the word "capitol" instead of "capital" to indicate the city serving as their seat of government should befall the same fate. Once and for all,

this is the United States Capitol:

and this is the capital of the United States:

Thank you.

Remember also that if the Holocaust is the reason that you don't wish him to be in the game, that Stalin kill many times more of his own (and surrounding areas).

The Holocaust was racially motivated, so that's probably why Hitler is out.

Anyway...

#99: Unless you are playing the game in the "Always War" or "Always Peace" mode, the AI will ask you to declare war on someone else pretty much everytime you play.

yaaay! 100! :trophy:
#100: Never trust your opponents, AI or human! :backstab:

#101: On maps with large oceans (i.e. Continents, Archpelago), use your marines wisely (when you get them of course) :crazyeye:

WHAT!? Musketmen are almost invariably better than longbows at city defence. Allow me to demonstrate:

Longbows: 6 :strength:, +25% City Defence, +25% Hills Defence, 1 First Strike

Muskets: 9 :strength:

Now, on a city WITHOUT hills:

Longbows: 7.5 :strength:, 1 First Strike

Muskets: 9 :strength:

WITH hills:

Longbows: 9 :strength:, 1 First Strike

Muskets: 9 :strength:

So longbows are better on HILLS than Muskets, and Muskets are better, literally, everywhere else. Also, since in BtS pinch now requires the knowledge of gunpowder, there is NO counter until the enemy knows muskets as well (assuming you have your muskets promoted at least once to city defender. Otherwise, Knights can just beat an unpromoted musket on a 0% defence city). Finally, as a gunpowder unit, they can cancel the effects of walls, which makes them half-decent city capturers (although maces are much better, except when a counter-attack is nigh)

Unless Im missing something... #102 should read:

Muskets are worse than Longbows in city defence while on hills, so don't replace your hill defence Longbows with muskets, wait until Rifles.

Muskets are worse than Longbows in city defence while on hills, so don't replace your hill defence Longbows with muskets, wait until Rifles.

Well, you've overlooked significant factors on both sides.

First off, your math doesn't take promotions into consideration. For instance, your Longbow on a hill vs Musketman on a hill... Assuming that you only have a Barracks (and thus a single promotion), and giving both CG1:

6 x 1.75 = 10.5 + 1 FS
9 x 1.25 = 11.25

So assuming you can promote your units at all, the Musketman has a clear advantage.

On the other hand... The cost of a Longbow is 50. The cost of a Musketman is 80. That means you can produce 3 Longbows for less than the cost of 2 Musketmen. So now it becomes an issue of cost-effectiveness. But that's a subjective issue, so I'll leave it.

Anyway, I'd still agree that #102 is off-base. On the other hand, I've spotted at least 5 other supposed "once and for all" posts that are also incorrect, so expecting accuracy in this thread probably is asking a little too much.

It's not only cost, it's time. If, for example, your city is generating 40 hammers per turn, it will take 2 turns to produce either a Longbowman or a Musketman.
