The amount of time is based directly on the cost, so to say "not only cost" is somewhat misleading. And your example city is also misleading - yes, it's 2 turns for the first Longbow/Musketman, but the second would finish in a single turn for the Longbow, while still take 2 turns for the Musketman. As would the 3rd and 4th.

#115:- Save at least one city ruin somewhere in your borders, this almost always gives you a research boost sooner or later.

Dead right, happened to me quite recently even though only slight compensation for losing 3 towns :mad:....obviously, if the ruins are in a cities "fat cross" eventually you will need the tile, but my tip was to leave it as long as possible....

Save some cash..... there is nothing more [pissed] than losing a valuable building because you only have 1 gold left in treasury ( like a forge fire when building the collosus .... )

If you're a middling civ, don't save too much cash, though. It's no big deal if the big kid on the block demands 20 gold. A choice between 1000 gold and peace is considerably harder...
