Why did it fail? This legendary, long-gone (perhaps mythical :hmm:) forum of spam that is sometimes discussed, why is it not still here?

I think it'd be fun to have a forum where spam is allowed (and of course PC wouldn't count). But whenever this is proposed, the idea is shot down with remarks of this already happening (the Peanut Gallery) and TF getting fed up with it. But I've never heard exactly why this is so; I'm just curious about what went wrong.

I don't see the point of a spam forum. It draws, the wrong element to the forums as a whole and degrades all of them.

No, I actually think it would boost all of them (except for itself, of course), because no longer would people have the urge to spam in other forums. If you don't like spam, then you can avoid the spam forum. :)

It also attracts a lot of people to the forums who only want to spam. These people then go to the other serious forums and continue to spam there.

I think most people come here out of an interest in Civ. A spam forum would not be easily enough noticed by a newcommer to attract them, methinks. Heck, it takes some users three months to find the Site Feedback forum. The spam forum would be perfect for more experienced people like me and many others who, although are generally in-line with the rules, sometimes get an incredible urge to spam.

And besides, even if it did attract people, I highly doubt your second sentence.

Hide it as a subforum of Off Topic, then a random joe won't see it from the forums home.

this is a pretty good Idea. I've seen other forums with a place for spam. But it probably would take up alot of the server space probably.

Personally, I can agree with the idea, but then again, what is the point of making a post that is totally worthless (which spam is)?

It is a waste of time. Time that could be spent doing much more constructive things.

Lets reinstate it with a -1 postcount value, then see who's really that keen to spam. :p

Post count is just a number you know. It does not in any way, shape, or form vindicate the personality or likeability of a particular poster.;)

That being said, I think there are people on this forum that would rather cut off their right arm than give up their post counts.

Because the owner/admin found it exceeding dull, puerile, and irritating.

A bet each way it seems, so which wins? :p

The no post count condition would ensure that posters really want to post there. The question is what is there to distinguish between this and pure chat.

Because one of the story threads there turned into a sexual-oriented 'tale' starring a few mods, contributed by your OT regulars.

So even if it's spam, seems like posts still need to be moderated. So it was canned, since it's adding to mod workload and not really adding anything of value to the site.

If you feel the need to spam, there're other forums out there. ;)

Most people who spam(I think) just spam to boost their pc, they would still spam in the other forums.

Oh yes...

I've always thought PG was overrated anyway.
I had one of the last posts in it BTW. A flame fest between Miko, Darkshade and me about the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Oh well....
