The Philippines!

Just a quick map I created with the help of LouLong's smaller Philippines map. I simply tripled each tile of his map and then from that rough outframe I molded the Philippines. Was much easier then I figured it to be. Anyway, it's my first map so I hope you enjoy it  !

Someone should do a Phillipines war. It was actually pretty intense. Somtimes its called America's 1st Vietnam.

As a "quick" scenario I suppose.:)

I haven't done so much with the Iwo Jima thingy, but will do later.

doh!! i'm afraid that no scenario creation methods are "quick".

i'm actually preparing a research project this summer on that war (spanish american war and subsequent war in the philippines).

maybe in sept or so. though i'm close to releasing an imperialism scenario soon.

Go into the editor. Find where you always start. Right click on properties and set the starting location to random. It's probably set to player one right now.

it certainly is the most brutal war america fought in... philippines was the first country to get manifest destiny...... hehehee.....

Sorry, I don't seem to know (or know how to find) the dimension of my own map. :crazyeye:
Somewhere in the Editor options there's an thingy that shows the grid coordinates on the map. Simply find the coordinates of the bottommost right tile, and remember the numbering begins at zero.

There WAS no US/Phillipines war... Spain gave the United States the Phillipines after the Spanish/American War. America's first Vietnam? Next time do your research before making comments like that.

first of all, 2500 Americans died tring to secure the Philippines for the US. some estimates have Filipino casualties at over a half a million.

second, sure Spain ceded the Islands to the US but there was a bitter war fought over them between the Yanks and the resistant Filipinos.

i did do my research on it...for a whole year and there are certain aspects of that conflict (called an 'Insurrection' by the McKinley and TR admins but the Philippine-American War more recently) that can be compared to Vietnam. not many though.

Obviously you're not Filipino.

Any kid who passed the Fifth-Grade in Grade School knows that the Philippine-American War started when some American soldiers shot up some locals in Samar Island for not understanding "Halt! Who goes there?"

Then the Balangiga Massacre happened soon after that.

Next time do some real research before making comments like that. ;)

it was actually in the san juan del monte section of manila where that occurred (on luzon, not samar). it is alleged that the drunken american sentry opened fire on some filipinos who were violating the curfew.

the balangiga massacre occurred in 1901 on the island of samar and there's a long story behind it...

its been a long time since i read my teodoro agoncillo book but im sure it started that way. i was sure it started somewhere in samar but since you've been working on that project of yours i guess i need to look that up in the book just to be sure.

what's your research project for? i'm guessing you're an american. if so, maybe i could help you out, or at least hook you up with some friends of mine at the university of the philippines. if not, langya ka pre, kala ko kano ka. inom na lang tayo.

Boolaga,

i did my research for a senior thesis for my under-grad history degree while at university. i finished it this past april.

it was essentially the american political and military machinations as well as the emergences of Filipino nationalism, Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio and of course, Emilio Aguinaldo. i also searched through the micro-filmed archives which included the tax records of the 1st Philippine Republic.

unfortunately, i can't read or speak Tagalog. much of the primary material was in Spanish which i can read...and yes, i am a Yank!

this is a cool map btw...

i just downloaded your module/biq file. i'll check it out this weekend.

the last tagalog remark, by the way, could be translated as:

"jeez man, i thought you were 'amerikano'. let's just toss back a couple of beers"

the only problem i have w/ this map is the 'sideways' appearance of it in the editor. i mean, it doesn't mean that the land masses aren't correct b/c they're very good.

7,000+ islands are sort of hard to emulate in civ3 ;)

I could try and help you if you need any ideas :)

The US probably should only start in control of Manila, but quickly expands its influence. Than you have people like Aguinaldo (maybe a regicide game, or just a special unit?) to give the Philippines a fighting chance. Also, Bolo knives
