The preview thread

Agreed, the two parallel churches spoil what could have been a very good set otherwise.

I sometimes wonder why you bother to post previews if you don't really care about our criticism.

Wow Steph, you are right. I will go erase it now.

:crazyeye:

I post previews so that i can get some feedback which is not miles away from my own view.

I will tell you three secrets:
1) If you make a mistake, and someone as a view close to you, it's likely he is making a mistake
2) If someone has a view far from yours, he may still be right.
3) When all the people who give you critics give the same advice and it's different from your views, sometime they are not all wrong, and it's your view that wasn't correct.

Sorry but i didnt see you say anything when there were two temples in the ancient greek size 2, or two churches in the byzantine size 2.
I do not see why it should be any different in the french one. You may not like it, and another might not too, but in the end of the day this is my work and i do what i want to.

In fact originally i planned to have three churches in this set too. I still think it would have looked better. But since i had towers in the skandinavian and japanese, i thought that it wouldnt be too problematic to have a tower in this one as well.

It's not because two temples look right in some sets that they look right in every set.

It seems you have an kind of obsession with churches. No problem with that, they may be more interesting to model, I don't know I'm not the artist.

But in the case of the French set, two churches, paralell, in size 2, and the only big building, while in size 3 you add a castle, just don't look good.

It would have been better to put the castle and church at size 2, and keep the two churches for size 3.

But if you think it's better to have two churches instead of one church + one castle, well as you said it's your set.

I changed the castle to a third church.

Btw, i do not get why it seems "an obsession" to you, i just deem architecture of churches to be the greatest example of medieval architecture. I am an atheist anyway.

:(

Note to myself: Download files at work, not at home. Now the donjon is gone.

Still, it's a technically amazing set.

It isnt gone, you can copy/paste it from this thread ;)

Just remember to first save the pic, do not make a screenshot since these pics appear a tone darker when posted here.

It is just that you wanted something very specific as the french city. It doesnt work that way though.

Edit: My own view is that it looks ok. It is not my best set, but it doesnt take a genius to realise that i am not that well adapted to western architecture, and when it is intricate then it follows that i have some problems with it.
That said the models arent bad.
I must say that i feel a bit bad that you have been so critical of it. For reasons of my own i work fast with these graphics, again i have mentioned it before but: graphic making is just a hobby for me, so i never want to keep things around for a long time, since they interfere with my serious literary work.

So instead of being like that, try being a bit thankful for the work.
And people here generally are, since the french set has been dled 30 times in less than a day.

Could it have looked better? Sure. But i do not feel like reworking it. I'd rather erase it and make a new set if i am to replace it. But currently i want to keep it. ;)

I am thinking of reworking my norwegian set, to use as a "euro" medieval.

I am not too happy with most of the houses though. Any ideas, Ares? :)

This time it will not have two stave churches.

I'm not sure what you're planning - a new norse set for Euro Mods? I guess I'm not the only one using all culture groups on Euro maps - for example, I've changed the Vikings to be in the American culture group to gave them your norse cities...

I am just thinking of using the norwegian buildings i have for a medieval set which would look a bit better than the nordic one i made for medieval era.

This is an idea as to using different colours:

Nice. I've posted some medieval scandinavian buildings in this thread already, maybe the're worth a second look.

The problem is that i have already made such houses, and it is difficult to create differences that are striking from one to another.
Hopefully the ladder helps a bit in that direction though.

How about lenghtening the house right next to the round one, resulting in a small longhouse?
