I like them better because they are more random than the right angled cities of the past.

And I like that there are roads and plazas.

I'm very happy to hear that! This set looks very good! Having more historically accurate and diverse walls will go a long way to making this truely a 'definitive' style.

Perhaps...some adjustments of altitude? Are you making a hill fort?

Absolutely, the wall is not perfect enough, the whole impression is something...unfinished (UFO base). Something rough provides an impression of man-made structures. Pallisades can help to deal with those problems Besides, trenches can replace walls if the situation is hard.
