The questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread IV

Is this statement correct?

"Turkey is the only democratic majority muslim country in the world"

Depends how you want to define democracy. Malaysia, Lebanon, Indonesia all have democratic institutions though might not be a democracy in everyone's eyes.

That's an interesting dilemma that you raise here. I never thought about how to classify islands in the middle of oceans. I generally assume whichever country owns those islands...that's how the island's continent classification is assigned. But what if South Africa owned an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (and I wouldn't be surprised if they did)? Would that island really be Africa?

Oceania isn't a continent though.

I consider that all islands belong to a continent so who actually controls it is irelevent. Oceania is a giant square archipelagic continent that includes Australia,Northern Mariana Islands,Hawaii,Easter Island and every thing in the middle.

Indonesia is a republic

Great thanks for the info. Indonesia should have come to mind, I'm going to have to edit it to "one of the most democratic" or something similar.

How many people marry the first person they have a relationship with (i.e. your first boyfriend/girlfriend?) Or if not marry, at least have a serious relationship, like lifelong affair.

99% in some cultures.

Too many. Too many who get their first partner when they're well over 20, and who are so insecure they'll cling to him/her even if the relationship isn't all that great. Too many who think they'll never find anyone else who'll take them because it took them so long to find the first person who did.

Absolutely.

Part of the problem that modern dating enforces is that all too often, we get to know our partners both as friends and romantically at once. So, when the relationship is over (as it often is) both the friendship and the romance are up. This is one of the many reasons break-ups are so bitter and harsh.

Don't have a solution, though. Courtship isn't for everyone (and often difficult to arrange), organized marriage is obviously flawed (except for purposes of procreation).

Who was right, aug?

Also I'll reask my question since it landed on the bottom of the last page.

So what's going on at the WTC site these days?

I tried looking it up, but didn't find anything all that recent. AFAIK, it's mostly foot dragging. They built a memorial, but the new skyscraper for the spot hasn't had much work done yet.

I'm pretty sure they've started the foundations and base levels, but yeah, not much of anything there yet, victims groups kept whining about how the land shouldn't be built on or most of it should be memorials or whatever. The building design is set, they just haven't been allowed to build really due to that and safety concerns. I think originally when they first set out the design, it was supposed to have been built and finished by this year I think, now it's not expected to even finish just the structure until 2011 I think, and another year or two to fill everything out.

Yes, this is correct.

The initial design was different as well. The main building or "Freedom Tower" design has changed since 2003 to become more like the Trade Towers and the other buildings have been altered as well.

Does anyone here know of a good, offline English-Greek dictionary that's romanized, where to get it, and has a big enough heart to share?

Me, sort of, hopefully. As in, my fiancee was not my first girlfriend but my second, but it was always much more serious with her than my previous girlfriend. And I was also the most serious of her relationships. And I did in fact consider that, and worry that I was just taking the first thing that came along, but I can honestly say I don't think that is an issue.

/me raises hand

well, first gf past sexual maturity, if that still counts.

Am I the only one who thinks that "enjoy the sexiest death scenes" (or smth) ad on top of this page is repulsive?
I used to think I am not faint of heart nor easily offended, but geez...

I think you're the only one that doesn't use a ad-blocker :p

but seriously, you might want to post it in this thread so TF could take proper steps if need.
