Democracy means everybody has equal power in directly affecting and creating laws. The US isn't a democracy, nor is any other nation on Earth. Supposedly ancient Athens was a democracy, but only the elite landowners or something could participate.

So basically democracy is as big a pipe dream as communism.

Representative democracy is more or less the technical term for Western type "democracies" in the world today. We are more "democratic" than a pure republic, but we are not a pure democracy either.

I know. I was running with Phlegmak's skepticism.

Well, I think theoretical communism is an utter impossibility, but democracy is possible, but extraordinarily unwieldy, and extremely impractical.

EDIT: By the way, comparing democracy and communism is like comparing apples and cars. Democracy is merely a political system and communism is social, political, and economic.

So to respond to your statement: yes.

Whatever happened to the Terror Alert Level system here in the USA for air travel? I never hear about it anymore.

Question: Is there any difference other than political correctness between a hispanic and a latino?

"Latino" is a US-only term derived from the Spanish language, originally meaning "MALE of Latin descent". It came into Spanish from Latin (heh, obviously), where it was originally used to describe a person from the region of Latium (today Lazio, Italy), which is the region around Rome where the first Romans came from.

It is nowadays only used for people in Latin America, although most of the actual descendents of the Latins are in Europe, and not there - the inhabitants of Latin America having much less to do with the real people from Latium than almost all of southern Europe.

It's cause no one cares. Are you talking about the color coded one? That's still around as far as I know. I don't remember a specific one for air travel. On top of that, in all likelyhood airline companies probably would have lobbied to have it taken away.

Dunno. It reminded me of some versions of Little Drummer Boy. But I have no knowledge of recent kids music.

Nope. Maybe it was a variation of "this land is your land, this land is my land?" What I do know is that the tones kinda sounded similar to the french national anthem. Ever so slightly.

Anyway, the reason I'm asking is so I don't get sued when I sing according to those tones I posted and then post it on the internet for free. :p

You're probably in the clear because the song is way too obscure. It'd help if your sample had better tonal quality, but it doesn't sound like anything mentioned or anything that jogs my memory.

Most I see today are top-loading. For brand, it depends. How many people are you washing clothes for? You might get a bigger or smaller one based on that. Also, cost.

EDIT: OK, maybe you might want to go to Consumer Reports after all...

Hehe, ok.

We're looking to buy a new washing machine. Any suggestions as to what I should look for? Top or front-loading? Brands?

What's your budget like? Many of the new front loaders use less water, so are eco friendly. Quiet too. But they tend to be pricey. Look for sales. A recession tends to be good for sales on big ticket items. You can also stack them if you're short on space or place those storage drawers under them to raise them up so you need to bend less to use them. Brands are largely the same. There's only a handful of manufacturers for a large number of brands. If you know the brand name it'll probably last you a good long time. Pick one with a good manufacturer warranty. Don't buy the store warranty, those are near pure profit for the stores.

A bit of googling as you do your research may answer any question as well as Consumer Reports. http://www.appliancejournal.com/app...washers-and-dryers-as-rated-by-consumers-193/
