They're pretty much instant. What you see on film is dramatic effect. Dramatic effect as envisioned by morons, but dramatic effect. However, the mushroom cloud can take a few moments to form. And the the shock wave in the atmosphere fights said atmosphere on the way out, so isn't light speed.

Yes, it's free (except for certain things, e.g. dentist and eye care and medications and ambulance service). My mom's taking me to the hospital as soon as she's finished whatever she's doing. I also have a bunch of ibuprofen (generic Advil).
