The Realms Beyond - Succession Game Discussions

Not so intimidated by Monarch now after a pretty easy Prince victory last night, but ready for whatever comes at us...

Hoping that my reports won't be awful when compared to Sirian and Sullla's... ;)

OMG you are so right. Your reports are going to stink up the joint! The dates will be wrong. You'll forget to dot your eyes and cross your tease. When you hit submit, the forum will reject your report (under the guise of an "error" -- yeah right!) and you will have to start all over. People will immediately post nasty replies comparing your report to a fish that has been lying around dead for three months and advising you that you have a way to go to make your stuff as good as the movie Ishtar. You will discover that you left your house without putting on your jeans and shoes and everybody will be snickering. When you try to link your images, a typ o will accidentally link to a pr0n site instead and you will be BANNED from CFC for three months (and get one of those "Mod Smackdowns" that everybody enjoys) and the FBI will come and confiscate your computer as evidence and lock you up for three years as an enemy combatant. By the time you get out, your SG teammates will be growing slightly impatient with you.

:joke:

Nah, you'll be fine. :)

OK, I have the patch.

I got my butt kicked on my first game on it too . Oh well, I'd been 7-0 and was probably overdue for a couple losses....(last game on 1.0 also wasn't pretty).

I'm crusiing to a Monarch win on it now, checing out how much slower the space race is to see if we should leave it enabled.

Difficulty level will NOT be Monarch (I don't think its winnable on), probably will be Prince.

I have to work two 12 hour shifts the next 2 days, take my gf to the airport sunday, work out of town monday, and try to get ready to move the rest of the week. In other words, it may be a few days before we get this thing started. Plus, I don't have a net connection in my new house yet... My goal is to get it started next weekend, if not a few days before.

I'll keep you posted.

sorry to not get back soon. some RL stuff came up. I am going to have to wait and see if some RL items clear up (work, and extended family issues) before I am able to commit to taking on an SG.

Heck, even regular game time is limited right now.

Thanks for trying to hold a spot, but I dont want to hold folks up.

There's going to be an expected delay launching "Island Hopping" -- sorry, guys. :( More info is posted on page 38 of the RB1 thread.

If another game is ready to launch before ours, they can use the next numbers, and Island Hopping can be RB5 or whatever is the next number when I do launch it.

After finally completing a couple patched games, it is my opinion that the Prince AI will be lucky to launch at all with the increased tech and parts costs and small empire sizes likely to be found on a small map with 18 civs.

I think we should simply leave space allowed and just declare war on anyone we suspect could launch before we achieve culture victory.

I hope to launch the game in a few days.

ToddMarshall, scratch me off the list for your game please. I'm gonna finish the other two SGs that I'm in, but I don't want to commit to another right now. I'm sure someone else would join - like I said, it sounds like a fun variant. Good luck.

Actually. I'm not sure now is a good time for me to start it. Suddenly life has gotten hectic. I'll TRY to start it this week but no guarantees.... At this point if you're passing on other games waiting for this one, I'd advise you just go ahead and take the other games. I'll try to do it asap but no guarantees. Sorry to everyone who signed up :( .

Well, I've just finished Epic 1, and so would like to get an SG started. Since ToddMarshall's game is delayed, I'm interested in starting up a new game. There are two concepts I'm interested in:

- "Just win" on Emperor. I've only beaten Monarch so far. Would prefer players who have beaten at least Prince and probably Monarch, and haven't beaten levels higher than Emperor.
- "Mongolian Slave Traders" (probably Prince): a game that would force alot of aggression. We'd be the Mongols (or another aggressive civ) and would not be able to build workers.

The only way we could get them would be capture. We'd also have to use the Slavery civic as soon as we get it, and keep it throughout the game. (and it'd be in the spirit of the game to use the whip often). This restriction would make us heavily disadvantaged later on, making lots of early combat necessary.

Either of these interest anyone?

"Just win on Emperor" is exactly what I need as I mentionned in our Rb2a thread...and with good ol' Sirp to top it off ? Count me in :D

Okay, sounds good. :)

Apologies for never getting around to playing that CivIII MP game with you by the way, Skyfish. :(

So, preferences on settings? Normal map size, continents, everything else random? Any preference on a Civ? I kinda like the idea of being Philosophical, purely because I'm still not sure I "get" the best way to generate and use Great Leaders, so it'd be nice to appreciate their usefulness.

I think a team size of four is best, so we have room for two more.

Hey we can always have a PBEM on Civ IV once we've learned the game by heart like we had with Civ3 ;)

Preferences : I would love to play a Lakes game or Pangea I find them harder because of the tech rate.

Philo sounds good, I would advocate getting a powerful civ though as Emperor with a bad/average start and a civ that hard to play (meaning better in the end game than in early game) can be gruesome...
I love the Creative trait for early border expansion and not needing early religion, or Stonehenge and I like Civs with early UUs like Egypt, Persia, Rome,...
Finally I prefer a team of 5 as the turns can come to soon with 4 : I dont have a lot of free time...

Okay, so basically we need 2-3 more players for our Emperor-level 'Just win' lakes game. Civ is still up for grabs, though we want one that can fight its way out of a bad start. (I'll make sure our start isn't too dismal though).

Whose interested?

OK, I'll bite.

I can play a game, I just don't have time to captian one (at least not to the level of involment I usually try to take with a game when captianing it).

I talked to speaker about Captianing it, but he doesn't want to take my idea (which is very nice of him).

So I suppose I should just play the JWE game and do mine after the hollidays.

I'd like to be at the end of the roster if possible.

I have finals coming up, so I wouldn't be able to play for about ten days, but if that is okay, I would be interested in playing. I can also participate in discussion at least to some degree in this time.

I'm in the same boat as bed-head - Finals coming up (although I'm grading finals not taking them) and I'm already in two SG's, which is about my limit. I'd really like to do the Emperor one, but I don't think I have time. Lurk on.
