The Small Things You Want to See in Civ VI

Anyone got small details they wanted included in Civ VI?

There is one small thing missing from Civ V that was in Civ IV: the sound effect when someone declares war. That sound effect made the game feel so much more "dangerous" to me, because when you pressed the End Turn button and that sound blared you went on full alert. Who's fighting? Are they attacking me? Sometimes you got to sigh in relief, and sometimes you found out seconds later you were under attack. It also made it much easier to keep track of the general amount of conflict going on in the world. Plus it made world wars *feel* huge and dangerous. I think its partly why people perceive Civ V to be more peaceful than IV (altho that is somewhat justified, it's not entirely).

What other small things do you want to see?

The ability to turn off some civilizations in a certain game. Also, the ability for civs and city-states from the same cultural group (Middle East, Americas, Europe) to start close to each other.

Why? Because I like roleplaying. I know, I know: it's a game where an eternal Montezuma can build the Louvre. But I LOVE when I play on the Americas, my neigbour is Pacal and there's La Venta over there. Nothings breaks the immersion as fast as meeting Attila in Mesoamerica conquering Sydney.

Lol. Agree 100%. I know exactly what you mean!

That cIV war horn still sends shivers down my spine when I hear it.

Scenario support for MP/hotseat. I want to play Into the Renaissance against myself.

In addition, an advanced and up-to-date scenario akin to Civ 3, where you can adjust the rules a little bit, pre-set events (religion, etc) without having to rely on lua or xml editing.

This may just be me not knowing the controls properly, but in Civ V, when I start a saved game after any real absence, sometimes a diplomacy window will pop before I've had a chance to get my bearings, and I have to make a decision without being able to see where the other leader is on the map. I'd like the ability to pull up all my stats, etc., to see WTH is going on before I select something.

Venice! Playing V I had to manually select each civ so I didn't get stuck with the AI getting control of Venice, playing incompetently and ruining the entire game.

A little thing I want is animated leader backgrounds. Roosevelt and Cleopatra's static painted images are so terrible looking they ruin the leader screen immersion for me.

1. Ability to tie day/night cycle to system clock and show the system clock in the UI.
2. TSL earth not limited to 12 civs
3. Stable MP with mods
4. Hovering over unit/leader/icon art on the UI pops out a larger view of that art.

The UI displays more info about the other leaders when in Diplomacy with them. so yay, you don't have to worry about that. I hope.

The units are having small ethnic details for different cultures, and different helms, shields etc.
I wish riflemen and musketmen would get the classic helmets of that time, like Prussian spiked helmet(pickelheube) and world war infantries would get the british, german etc. helms.

If not we will surely get them in some r.e.d. mod. :)

A small graphical thing I missed from Civ 4 was the trees swaying in wind.. I'm happy that we get that in after the more static map of Civ 5!

* Above all, a decent map editor (if you've ever placed rivers with the Civ V editor on a world map, you'll know what I mean..!:mad:), and a way to upload maps and scenarios on Steam with a single click, without having to worry about 'builds' or 'Visual Studio Trollface', or other nerdy stuff like that.

* The phrase 'Our words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!!' plastered loud and clear across the screen when you meet a leader with nuclear capabilities! :nuke::cool: (Iirc, we haven't had this since Civ II. It absolutely belongs in the game for that epic, menacing cold war feel. It'd make a great pair with the reintroduced war horns! Ideally, the civ's music would change too, to include more discord, menacing drums, etc.)

* Canals with a length of more than 1 tile.......................... For the love of God, we needed them in Civ IV and you failed to deliver in Civ V; it's time to have them already! (Wasn't it in Civ III where you could make a 3-tile canal using a city and two forts? My bad if I'm mistaken and it was in fact Civ IV that had this.)

* More movement speed for ships (at least on big maps), and not having to shuffle them back and forth on the coast when you get blocked by a rival ship (I solved this in my world map by making all coasts two tiles wide, but no one else seemed to catch on to the trick).

This would be an endless list, but I want to give others some stage-time as well, so let these be my pet peeves for now! ;)

Access to the civlopedia from the main menu to look over all the civs info before setting up a new game. I know civ V has this but it didn't at launch so I hope they remember it this time around.

Oh! I forgot this! (Your post reminded me, Brutus2, so here, have some imaginary forum gold! :D) The one thing we absolutely, positively MUST have in the game from the very start is having the game 'remember' the settings that we used to set up a game the last time we played; and furthermore, within the game we must be able to press 'regenerate map' to generate a new map while keeping the settings intact. The latter must be doable even after exploring the surroundings a little bit (Civ IV(?) didn't allow this iirc); there is no 'cheating' in a single-player game, so please let us play the way that we want!

Civ IV style scenarios (Earth 18), and more scenarios in general.
he ability to turn off some civilizations in a certain game.
need this, my first 8 Civ V games (I bought the gold edition) were PLAGUED by Austria every game she would be right next to me, this annoyed me so much that I kept restarting until she was gone.

Victory Movies like in Civ IV.

Civilopedia access in multiplayer menu so we don't get held up by a friend who doesn't want to go in blind.

Multiplayer scenarios.

That's an option I'd never use. I love it when I start playing and it's suddenly 3 a.m.

I'd like to be able to reroll the map after turn 1. I like to explore a bit before deciding whether or not I want to play on that map.

Related: an option to disable the clock in Steam that shows how many hours you've played the game. Some things just aren't meant to be known (I sure am glad this didn't exist for Diablo II...).:blush:;)

It was Civ IV ;)

D'oh! Well, to be fair, it's been so long since I've played either that I can be forgiven for this mistake. :p (For some reason, whenever I get nostalgic and want to play an older Civ game, it's Civ II -- even though I prefer Civ IV out of all the Civ games. I guess it's because I don't have to worry about setting it up with mods etc, which I'd have to do to really enjoy Civ IV.)

In Civ IV, if you had a road that led up to a river, but you didn't have the technology to have a bridge across it, the road would end in a pier over the river. Like there were ferry boats to fill in the gaps in your transportation network. I thought that was a nice touch; it made no difference to gameplay, but it's one of those small things that helped sell the immersion. I was kind of surprised they didn't keep that in Civ V.
