The Song of the Moon

Special Govt's, really like being able to do WAR footing etal. How about a countdown timer like they have for golden age. Could also be used to countdown for solar storms :hmm:

I hadn't thought about using a counter like the GA counter. I think I will definitely do that.

Also, vis a vis mag levs, you are correct that they will have to be underground, or in exceptionally well sealed above ground tubes, as the Lunar Dust renders an open rail model impossible.

Now I have to say I'm impressed, although the mod seems to be in a really raw state. I sure hope you won't stop developing it.

The first impression was rather strange, though. I started out as the Troyans on a large moon map with Prince difficulty and yet found it relatively easy to overwhelm my opponents without getting any techs from wrecks. I don't know if AI changed any of it's gov settings but I did right away (most important was genetic screening, I believe) for a veeery nice boost of my civ capabilities. I quickly got ahead in tech tree and even got to build two of the world wonders while AI got none... Don't know if it should be like that, it seemed a bit weird...

BTW, Woodelf, I think you may want to add the working download link to your first post in this thread (or the faq), specifying that people can get the mod from there. It would be easy to find and limit the number of 'link doesn't work' messages.

Cheers

Good idea. I can add the link to my first post at least. Thanks Chammadai.

edit - link added to post 5 (my first post) and also to my sig. Keep up the valuable feedback and ideas.

using the golden age counter sounds like a great idea, it can also be a visual reminder because players are likely to forget how many turns they have done, even though a turn is one year in this mod anyway and its the same thing if they save the game and then come back after a while, the player will probably have forgotten for sure how many turns it is to the next solar storm.

An idea for the mag-lev graphics, if we decide to put them underground, maybe we can have them partially buried with only the roof of the maglev tunnel showing and on the edges have it look like churned up aggregate, that way it will be easy to tell whats maglev and whats just road because if we have them completely buried and have them be a solid greyish color, it could be difficult to tell the difference between roads and maglev.

Although, are there plans for implementing golden ages in this mod?

A slightly rounded pathway would represent the Maglev well. Mostly submerged, but some graphical way to show it's there.

Ahh... but will we be able to burrow under the mountains and dust seas and get a semi-straight line? This would be a major break through. I mean this could then be implimented in regular civ4 and cross oceans!

I have found a bug

When I start a game the map loads, but it is mainly made up of vanilla terrain that's been re-named, unlike in all the screenshots i've seen.

You or forgot to put the moonmap script in the PublicMaps folder, or didn't select the moonmap when starting the game. ;)

I see, I looked in the custom scenarios an didn't find anything and just assumed that you were supposed to choose a normal map

Sorry for that

Just out of interest, why are the black squares there even when i havn't picked the moonmap?

That's most likely because our terrain doesn't use all of the normal terrain. At least the black spots aren't pink!

For the next release we really need a good FAQ...

Just a note guys, Universities can's be built again.... Oh the money I'm going to save on tution :woohoo: Good defense against the barbs is one (1) laser tank for every two (2) cities, this way you setup a protective cordon around your territory. I guess to disable the barbs I should edit the CivIV.ini file?

I don't know if it can be done via .ini file but when you start a custom game you just choose 'no barbarians' and you won't be bothered by them.

yea, that would be neat, a reliable hosting place :) its up to the main ppl, Belizan and Woodelf who are largely the ones managing this thread atm since the OP of this place, JBG, is no longer around.

Ah... when I try the custom game option instead of the scenario I get a crash. Will try again after work. My bosses actually expect me to work instead of playing on the PC all day... go figure!

Custom game, no barbs, aggressive AI. Those are my main setting for SotM.

Work? What is he, a slave driver? ;)

Man the makers of this game is slow like a grandma on updating this game. Even Sevo is faster then you! Try updating your game once in a while so that we don't suffer from crashes that i just recieve after researching a technology from the neosysthesis tech line.
