The Song of the Moon

Stop teasing me like this! This one of the best Vanilla mods I saw, shed tears when it died.

We're not teasing. If you want SotM to continue, you have to start on it yourself I'm afraid.

Chances are you won't get an answer ;)

This mod has been abandoned 1.5 years ago at the least (that is when the post before yours was made), 4 years if you go by the last update to the first post.

Try Planetfall or Mars Now for similar scenarios.

ok , i convinced my self,

i will update this mod to 3.19 with revdcm, bbai and all the fun stuff, i will spice up the mod and add stuff, units uu, buildings and the whole shebang.

that will be my last mod for civ4.

goodluck, hope there are folks that want this.

ok , got around 40% of the xml updated, it takes a lot of time ......

when im finish, ill upload the first version without any real changes by me, after this, ill begin adding, tweaking and balancing this mod.

i plan on using a whole land map terrain , no transport units (might add though), this should be a different play i hope, got much stuff in my had to do.

the moon team done some really fine work, they created many things for this mod, arts, texts, civs, the works, its a shame to let it all to waste, so im fully motivated to get this up and running again.

goodluck, and help is welcome (xml work).

Well I'm looking forward to seeing your efforts Keldath, I've enjoyed both Overlord and Dune Wars so I imagine that you'll make a good effort of this too!!

thanks Argroww,

i have finished merging all of som files with bts 3/19, and revdcm, but for some unknown reason, i have a crash, also the som team, have left many things in complete, right now ive stopped working on it.
basically i have to rebuild all of the mod structure and harvest the som stuff into the new build, this may take time, and currently ive stopped working on it due to other things - starcraft 2......., also - im wondering if the work on a new mod is really that worth doing since civ5 is two month away, and when ill get it, ill start working on a civ5 mod.

thanks again!

Understandable, play SC2, mod/play civ 5 (when it's out) or re-create an old Civ 4 mod almost from scratch........not exactly a difficult choice

whether or not this is worth doing depends on how easy and accessible modding for Civ 5 will be. personally I find modding for Civ 3 to be the limit of how far I am willing to dive to create or fine tune a mod. however if you get SotM back up and running I would gladly play it and give you feedback since it is one of my favorite mods for Civ 4.

there were quite a few issues in the last build of SotM I played. these and other issues were addressed in the mod buider section

apparently active work on this mod proceeded April to Oct of 2007 and then stopped. joelwest

hi joelwest,

well it was stated that civ5 will be more moddable and easier there civ4, so we have what to look forward to.

civ3 - it was the civ game i played the most - i never went into modding there, just played dyp for rar super mop , that was fun.

civ4 present a way to completley change civ to what ever you want, so i end up modding countless hours during these 4 years....never finishi8ng even one civ4 game....

sotm, it was suppose to be simple, but i found out that the 0.23 last version wasnt good, the terrain isnt right, and some other stuff, i think ill decide if to re animate the mod in a few days, just need to finish the latest of my overlord2 mod.

get in contact with woodelf or Geomodder to find the last stable build of SotM, plus various pieces of code they worked on in 2007. there were substantive improvements such as static leaderheads. I dunno if these improvements ever made it into a stable build

some modders found the xml model used in Civ 4 to be an "improvement." I did not. to me xml files are a massive waste of space since in effect you recreate the spreadsheet headers in every single line of the spreadsheet (making it twice as big as it needs to be and introducing the possibility of header mismatch errors). hence I have stuck to Civ 3 modding when I mod at all. currently my main computer is down so I am not playing either Civ 3 or Civ 4

HELLO YOU CIV 4 PLAYERS!

im happy to say, that i have successfully converted all of the material made in song of the moon (merged with bbai 1.02 by fuyu).

now, i will commence making this a playable mod, theres plenty of work to be done, nothing is finished here, so it wont be fast.
im also committed to other projects in civ4 (like babylon 5), so again, this might take a while.

one thing i can say - this mod will be on land terrain only - the ai will use only unitai for land, this should be interesting - similar to mars now.

i would welcome any help, for now, i need only xml work.

hope theres anyone here whos interested in this,
since civ5 is coming, and i know im gonna mod there :)

cheers,
kedath.

I can only commend your willingness to work on this. For me, Planetfall and CiV are my main points of interest in the future.
