As all webmasters know. The value of online advertising has dropped drastically during the last year. Many of us are actually putting in more than we are getting out. I hope this situation gets better and soon!

And I hope you can do it without resorting to pop-ups and other such obnoxious ads which serve nothing but annoy.

(hint! hint!)

As a webmaster I have to say I never really believed that advertisements where going to make my money for me. Living in a capitalist society I have learned that people really want to give you thier money for a good product, supply and demand my friend – Make a site to sell what you have, whatever that may be, and people WILL buy from you…..
Thus you will make the money to keep your sites up.....BALANCE though...don't get carried away.

I would be interested in numbers.

Could someone tell me about them?

(How much your site cost, how much do you get from advertisement, etc...)

It's all about a higher outlook, If you can't start a business confidently in the real world, please don't try to do it here, ON the other hand if you know how to do business and have a great idea of course your website is going to flourish.

Now I am not a Capitalist, I’m not here for the money in itself, I have higher goals, but I do understand that I live in a capitalist society, and by that society I must make my money while I’m am young so that I may do what I really want to do, with the burden of Money off my shoulders. I want Nirvana – and I’m going to get that regardless, but if I take control of the opportunities in my environment it is second nature to make Money.

My earning from websites have fallen almost 80% from last year to this year.

I do websites as a hobby so it hasn't hit me to hard. I wish web-surfer would be just a little more click happy so webmasters don't have to put ever-more-annoying ads to balance our upkeep cost.

Internet advertising is a joke and it will never work. Advertisers made a huge mistake when they developed it: they thought they could advertise on the net just like they do on television, radio, and other media. But with the internet, you're not dealing with a passive audience like you do with TV or Radio. Most people go on the net to find something; they log on and they look for what they want. It doesn't matter how many adverts they see during the process, they're completely oblivious to them in their search for one thing. In TV advertising, however, the person is usually just sitting there...absorbing.

Internet advertising is like any other kind of advertising. Most people aren't idiots and you can't expect them to buy your product or click on your banner just because it is there.

These annoying pop-up adds don't get any attention from me whatsoever. They are just yanking my chain.

However, intelligent people know a good deal when they see one, even on the internet. But if you annoy the hell out of them with it, you only drive them away.

For instance, a couple of weeks ago a banner caught my eye on cases ladder, which most of you are probably familiar with. It said that it would offer me 7.9% interest, with no interest until December. I didn't care about the no interest until Dec part but the 7.9% caught my eye because it is less than half what I am paying now. So I clicked on the banner, and went and read the fine print, and there were no hidden charges or anything. I even filled out an application and am waiting to get a letter of approval from them.

So, internet advertising, when it's done nicely, and is honest, can be a good way of advertising. Although, most of the time it is bullsh*t I will admit.

Actually if you target your audience you can still make quite alot of money. Search engines sponsers still bring in alot of cash and ads for free stuff on free stuff sites can make a bit of money.
For instance if you have a link to freelotto on a casino site, it will work.
The trick is integrating ads into your site.
