The Sumerian Empire

Will the mercinaries be in the next update?

Great pictures, especially the crowd going to the Arena where the traitors were executed. But then, all of your pictures have been great!

930 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- After Arabia having caught several spies, one has finally slipped thru and another spy has managed to cross all the battle lines between here and Byzantium.
s363-agent_mecca.jpg

King Gudea- So we now have an agent inserted in every foreign nation?
Foreign Advisor- Yes, our Intelligence Ministry is very busy sifting thru all the information coming in.

960 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, the alliance with Egypt and Greece vs. the Hittites has come to an end. For some reason both Cleopatra and Alexander were glad that the alliance was over.
King Gudea- Once we end this conflict with the Hittites, then we are at war with just Babylon and Rome. Hammurabi is being taken on by the crusaders and Carthage is holding off the Romans, so our armies will be getting a lot of rest. Hope they enjoy it, cause it may not last too much longer.

As the foreign advisor left the throne room a scruffy-looking barbarian, with a large axe, walked into the throne room. King Gudea was surprised to see a mercenary here in the capital, when he should be staging near Bad-tibira. But, then he recognized that it was the military advisor in a barbarian outifit.
King Gudea- That's very convincing!
Military Advisor- I had you there for a second, didn't I? There are over 80 mercenary units hired, disguised and ready to go.
s371-mercs.jpg

King Gudea- It is time. Have them board the un-marked ships and send them out to sea.
Military Advisor- They have said they will not waste lives assaulting enemy cities.
King Gudea- There is no need to worry, enemy units will come to them. Barbarians are universally despised by all the civilized nations. Tell them to attack, pillage and destroy all that they are able to.
Military Advisor- I will send them on their way, my King.

1000 A.D.
Military Advisor- Our neighbors, the Ottomans, are taking a severe beating. Osman has retreated and Istanbul has fallen to the Carthaginians.
s380-istanbul_falls.jpg

King Gudea- Hannibal is doing quite well for himself. His forces are holding the Roman legions at bay and at the same time are conquering the Ottomans.

1020 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Great One, Mursilis has approached us with peace overtures. What shall I do?
King Gudea- All of his cities on the mainland have either been razed or captured. He is much less of a threat while stuck on an island. You may accept peace, but see if he will divulge his knowledge of the printing press.
s382-_peace_hitt.jpg

Military Advisor- Master, several Greek units have entered our territory, coming from the city we gifted them long ago.
s383-ask_greeek_leave.jpg

King Gudea- Demand that they leave immediately!

Later-
Foreign Advisor- Alexander did not take kindly to the demand.
s384-greeks_declare.jpg

King Gudea- Destroy any Greek cities near us. The main Greek core will hopefully be taken care of by someone else.
Military Advisor- Your will is my command.

1040 A.D.
One evening as the sun was setting, King Gudea is brought out to the shoreline near Isin. The science advisor had been promising a demonstration, based on their current research.
Science Advisor- Supreme One, during our research into applying Gunpowder to the battlefield, we have run across an apparent entertainment use of it.
Fireworks.jpg

King Gudea- That definately has some entertainment value! We could possibly use it to distract an attacking enemy. That would be helpful, if they were attacking at night. I was hoping for something much more devastating, than colored lights in the sky.
Science Advisor- I will return only when we have discovered something of more value to you, that will help on the battlefield.

1050 A.D.
s389-treachery.jpg

King Gudea- What was Osman smoking? He is down to 3 cities and we were trading iron and horses to him.
Foreign Advisor- The Greeks must of had something to bribe Osman with; something worth more than iron & horses.
King Gudea- Either that or Osman has gone insane!

Military Advisor- My King, I have some alarming news!(hee-hee) There is a massive barbarian invasion near the Carthaginian city of Cirta.(chuckle)
s390-barb_invasion.jpg

King Gudea- Stop fooling around and get our ships out of their waters, before they discover the ruse.(smile crosses Gudea's face) Actually, it was kinda funny how you ran in here all serious.

1020 to 1060 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, we have razed all the Greek cities near us.
s385-marathon_razed.jpg

920 to 1070 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, here is a list of current conflicts around the world. Notice how the Ottomans and Greeks, two of the smallest nations in the world, are each taking part in six different wars.
s362-otto_greek_vs_zulu.jpg

King Gudea- Yes, the smaller they are, the more desperate they are to exact revenge on everyone else.

1120 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- My King, the Ottomans & Carthaginians have finally settled for peace, but only after Osman was reduced to one pitiful city.
s408-otto_1_city.jpg

King Gudea- Hannibal should have just put him out of his misery. What can Osman do with just one city? He's pretty much out of the world picture.

I have to say, having been a big fan of daftpanzer's celtic peacekeeper story, I really enjoyed the presentation and the graphic intensive nature of this story.

My only comment is that it seems like the game need to be played on a slightly different ruleset for the humans. The fact that the tech pace is advancing so slowly means every Civ that doesn't have an ancient era UU is being hurt by this, conversely, the Civ with the ancient era UU can use it to great effect.

The AIs having use of their early UU is probably fine, but as a human player I'd go with a Civ with no early UU just for balance and I'd avoid using armies as well, since the AI in C3C is broken and can no longer use armies.

I think Takeo should have tried harder diff, there is no-one to stop him now...

He sort of did. The AI all built units at Diety and that's what harder Difficulty is mostly about in Civ3.

The real difficulty comes from the AI to human differential. I'm not too clear on the mod, but it looks like from the story that he could also build units just as cheaply as the AI or he made up for the gap by picking Sumerians with their relatively cheap early UU. In true 'diety' the humans build units at normal, speed, only the AI get the insane bonuses.

I don't really get what you are trying to say. I do know how Difficulty levels work...

My point was that AI should have even bigger production bonus that it now has. Takeo's units should be something like 4 times more expensive than AI's if we want to see a real fight.

I don't think anyone has any hope at the rate Takeo has been conquering the world.

Yes, I could have conquered most of the world now, but I have been intentionally holding back. The mod has kind of disappointed me.:( I expected a lot more units for the AI, seeing as how their units are discounted 50-60% in the medieval age and mine are normal price. I'll admit that I have been funneling a little gold to some civs to jumpstart them. There has been a couple of highlights like where the Hittites attacked my city with over 40 swordsman and the Romans have over a 150 legionaries. But, I was hoping for Deity-level piles of units everywhere and it hasn't happened. We'll see what the Industrial age brings.

I've seen a couple of AI armies with just 1 unit in it. Very disappointing. I've thought about disbanding my older armies and using any modern ones a little less effectively than I normally would.
Some of the units in the ancient age(swordsman, chariot) were the same price for me. I didn't really want that but I got bored making and testing the mod and just wanted to start it. In the medieval age all my units are full price. Well, hopefully later on after the AI builds all its city buildings, then maybe they will start building more units. Or maybe I'll go always war.:)

Oo. I see. It was not a good idea for Babylon to get tangled up with Takeo, eh?
