1440 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- Your Grace, the Arabs have constructed a grand university in honor of Isaac Newton. He is the world's leading scientist, mathematician and physicist and is credited with many important dicoveries.
King Gudea- I have heard much about him. A few year ago I had the foreign advisor try to persuade him to build his university here, but the Arabs apparently had more to offer him.
1445 A.D.
Military Advisor- All of our closest neighbors have doubled their territory recently. Will we be knocking any of them back down a notch or two?
King Gudea- Yes. Begin to make preparations to attack either Egypt or Arabia.
Military Advisor- But, we are at war with Arabia right now?
King Gudea- Yes we are, but peace will come soon enough. Then, in the near future, we will pay them back for their unprovoked attack. Our lost workers will also be avenged.
Military Advisor- I will draw up assault plans for both, my King.
1450 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- Your Excellency, this electrical power will allow our new factories to run around the clock. Production has been boosted substantially by all these recent inventions and our way of life is changing day by day.
King Gudea- I hear that some factories are producing so efficiently that warehouses are now needed to house the surplus. Things are going quite well!
King Gudea- I agree completely with researching this. The military advisor has shown me the prototype of the rapid-fire gun you guys have been working on. Having one of the little pieces inside the gun wear out, then throwing the gun away, would be a waste. By all means, complete your studies on replaceable parts, so we can equip our troops with these new guns.
1460 A.D.
Military Advisor- Master, we have destroyed 33 Arab cavalry units and have had no loss of our own, except the workers that were trampled.
King Gudea- I wonder if Abu would be willing to talk?
Foreign Advisor- I will contact him to see.
Later-
Foreign Advisor- Abu Bakr was ready to resolve the conflict and also offered up reparations for our lost workers.
King Gudea- That's awfully gracious of him, but gold does not replace lives.
1461 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, the Egyptians and Romans have both developed superior sanitation practices. The domestic advisor somehow found out about it and she is driving me crazy asking if we have traded for it yet.
King Gudea- See if either one will part with it for electricity. If a trade goes thru, you have my permission to inform her first.
Later-
King Gudea- With all these new health measures, we should be able to relegate the Black Death to the history books.
1490 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, some Egyptian coal miners have been caught off-guard, near the city of Istakhr. The volcano blew it's top and lava destroyed the mining camp.
1500 A.D.
The noise inside the factory was deafening as the machinery cut, molded and stamped out various metal pieces. King Gudea was very impressed with the assembly line, that was churning out the new long-range artillery at a very quick rate. He surveyed a row of completed artillery pieces, shook a few worker's hands and then made his way across the city, towards the barracks. Along the way, Gudea was intercepted by the science & domestic advisors.
King Gudea- Tell me again about this national pride you mentioned.
Science Advisor- We call it nationalism and we would like to spend some time to investigate it thoroughly.
Domestic Advisor- Sir, a growing feeling that we are 'a great nation' is sweeping thru our cities. This national pride can lead to significant unity and common purpose.
King Gudea- I sensed this as I looked into the faces of the factory workers. They were all smiling and working very diligently to strengthen our military. You may spend time looking into this.
Science Advisor- Thank you, my King.
King Gudea- Would you two like to come along for a demonstration at the barracks firing range? The military advisor promised a first-hand trial of the new machine gun.
Science Advisor- The gun was partly designed by me, so I wouldn't want to miss this for the world.
A few minutes later-
King Gudea arrived at the firing range to find the military advisor waiting for him. At the advisor's feet was the new machine gun. It was mounted on a small tripod with a magazine of ammunition at it's side. A group of spectators stood to one side, all awaiting the King's test & approval of the new weapon. To the other side was a unit of soldiers, freshly-trained in the use of this same weapon.
Military Advisor- This is the new machine gun that we told you about. It will fire a continuous stream of bullets as long as the trigger is pressed and ammunition is fed in from the magazine. It requires a team of two soldiers, one operating the gun and the other handling the ammunition magazine.
King Gudea- How heavy is it?
Military Advisor- The gun itself weighs 43 pounds. Where the gatling gun was large and cumbersome like a cannon, this machine gun is easily moved around the battlefield. Would you like to try it out?
King Gudea- Yes I would.
Gudea rubbed his hands together, then went to one knee behind the gun. The military advisor pointed out how to grip the weapon, the location of the trigger and how to aim it. After taking a deep breath, the King of Sumeria calmly pulled the trigger and began to mow down a line of man-shaped targets at the other end of the firing range. He did not stop until the entire 250-round magazine was emptied. Gudea rose to applause, with a big smile on his face.
King Gudea- This is glorious!! A very awesome weapon. Well done!
Military Advisor- I would say "we will rule the battlefield", but I hear that Arabia has just developed something similar to this.
King Gudea- Well, we will just have to out-produce them. Thank you for the adrenaline rush. I am more than wide awake now.
1505 A.D.
King Gudea- Have all the old units been upgraded or disbanded?
Military Advisor- All have been upgraded, except for the crusaders. They wish to rely on the archaic weapons that they are proficient with. Also, Gilgamesh is unwilling to train with our new weapons and is going to continue with his martial arts.
King Gudea- I already knew of Gilgamesh's reliance on hand-to-hand combat. The crusader's decision will be on their own heads, but make sure that Bastion is protected by infantry and artillery.
Military Advisor- The garrison at Bastion is quite robust with over 20 crusaders. Some infantry and artillery will be shipped there immediately.
1510 A.D.
Science Advisor- Great One, the Egyptians have put together a way for small businesses to survive easier, by several of them getting together to form a corporation. Maybe we could obtain that information from them?
King Gudea- I'll have the foreign advisor inquire about it.
Later-
Foreign Advisor- Sorry, Cleopatra did not bite. She must value it very highly.
1515 A.D.
King Gudea- Stop any preparations for an attack on Egypt and Arabia. We are going to capitalize on this oppurtunity and attack Carthage, while their troops are to the east fighting Rome. Begin moving our soldiers towards the border with Carthage.
Military Advisor- Your will is my command.
1520 A.D.
King Gudea- Ignorant? Tiny minds? Is he trying to provoke me? It worked, cause we are definately attacking them now. Declare war on that worthless nation, immediately!
Later-
Foreign Advisor- Hannibal has received our war declaration.
King Gudea- Send our forces in.
Military Advisor- They are on their way, Supreme One.
