I mean English, as in the original way it is spoken here in the UK.
(we developed the langauge, hence why it is call 'English')
Here we spell and pronounce the words right.

Calling the langauge 'American'?
Ironically, people who have studied language drift over the years have discovered that American English has drifted LESS then 'The Queen's English' since the US split off. The English we speak is CLOSER to the original source then yours...so we're the ones speaking it correctly while you Brits are the ones who've mangled it. ;)

I mention the indigenous Spanish population in my first post.
You cant accept the forced integration of native populations...and use as an example the 'Native' Spanish population. The indigenous Spanish population...in N. America? Anyone else see the irony here? :) While we havent done the best for our minorities over the years, we certainly have treated them better then Spain did when THEY forcibly imposed their culture on the true native populations in the area. Heck, Mexico isnt exactly known for being a place you want to emigrate now, either.

OK,i'm back.

About immigration ,i think immigrants should consider the country they live in as their home country and respect its culture(s) n language(s).

They chose that country and shouldn't look at the country they come from anymore because they won't go back to it anymore.

They gotta learn the local customs, language(s) and references. IT's logical.

About multi-culturalism,i think it works(it does in Switzerland).Swiss are united by common references in culture(other than language) that create a national culture, customs, politics and history. QUEBECERS N Flemings knew segregation in the past,it's not the same thing.

About the SOUTHERN US,Mexicans were very few and all that happened b4 the desire of respect and peace born with the 2 World Wars.

I DON't want english to be the universal mother tongue.Cultures have to be respected.I disagree with those sayin that a common culture and language would eliminate wars, unite the world under the american flag and so called american democracy.

Who said all of that?

I don't even lock my doors half the time. :)

The whole globalization idea is an interesting one. I read a lot of sci-fi, so in some ways, it seems inevitable to me. On the other hand, it's hard to say what kind of culture a global society should have. I don't like the idea of different cultures having to give up their identity and become one big, boring global society. I don't think that'd be necessary anyway. A common language and currency will probably eventually be a fact of life, though. Of course, it could be that I just read too much science fiction. ;)
