Even in the event of America getting a foothold anywhere I can't see them holding it against the volume of units whoever they happen to go up against is packing.
The only way America can win (in my opinion) would be to attack either Britain mainland and use that as a board to attack Europe, or take Europe proper probably in Northern France while France are still pushing East and can't get units back in time. If they wait until France has secured Spain or stopped steamrolling east then they'll never get a foothold.

In my opinion the best place for the US to attack would be southern France. The diversion of French troops in Spain would leave a weak spot for the UK to assault from Gibraltar while weakening their over-all military.
Africa seems too barren to be of much value at the moment, and attacking the British Isle's directly might be drawn out enough for the French to better secure the actual continent, and forcing the creation of another beach-head anyway. Russia's forces appear to be becoming surrounded, and a depletion in French forces on that front might prove beneficial for the US in the future, while ultimately being useless to stop the creation of the US's foothold.
Personally I think the worst course of action for the US would be an attack on Japan, considering the vast amount of land necessary to take and the armies of Japan and China between the US forces and the bigger challenges of Europe. These assessments are however done with a limited understanding of the game.

To do that, they'd have to get into the Mediterranean first, which would require them possessing either Gibraltar or Suez.
Spain seems like a better option. The French are so spread out that I don't think they'd be able to contain the US before they secured a good foothold. In fact, I'd bet that the US will land in Spain, since I've played a few games where they did just that, and Nat. Spain at least fell apart like a cheap suit.
Actually, Africa is also viable, since I'd assume that's where the smallest concentration of troops would be. It'd be slow going, but as long as they have a land route into Europe and Asia, the game's probably over.

Africa would be viable, but the lack of infastructure would mean they'd get bogged down too quickly. At least with attacking Europe can they at least attempt a fast breakout.

Update XI - January 1, 1941 - July 1, 1941
The only annextion for update 11 occurs in Asia. After Holding out against attacks from China, India, and Japan for the last year or so, Thailand finally gets annexed by Japan. And so now Japan has complete control of Southeast Asia, freeing up troops that were guarding the Thai border to move to the fronts with China and India.
In Europe, France continues to push Russia, having taken Finland. In the Baltic region, French forces have reached Estonia and into northwestern Russia proper. In the south, the French continue to move eastwards, and are now on the northern border of Stalingrad. French troops are now within striking distance of the big three of Russian cities, Leningrad, Moscow, and Stalingrad, and there appears to be very little to stop them if they choose to advance. Additionally, Russian forces in the south are in danger of being cut off. You may notice that Ireland no longer controls Ulster. The UK didn't retake it, but rather those jerks went and signed a peace treaty right before July, so the update ended with the border like that. Russia also appears to be having mixed success against India, who continue to occupy parts of European Russia, but are also losing some ground as Russian forces are pushed eastwards by the French. France continues to advance into Arabia and Egypt, with no British forces whatsoever to resist. Finally, France has taken Tehran, and continues to slowly push the Indians out of Persia.
China is continuing to hold Japan to a relative stalemate. While Japan has yet to collapse on the Chinese front, they are definitely losing some ground. On the map of Asia I have labeled Japanese gains in red, and Chinese gains in blue, and China has a net gain of 2 for this update. India seems to have contained the Japanese landing in the south, though whether or not they can contain to hold them back remains to be seen. In Burma, the lines have not changed in at least 6 months. And the Australians have completely kicked the Japanese off of the continent once again. So all in all, things aren't going great for Japan. China and India remain relatively the same, with India losing some ground in Russia and France, while China continues into Siberia.
Finally South America. Basically Argentina is left with just a few territories left, so I expect them to be annexed in the next update.
