Hi,
I would like to create a thread for players aspiring to become Immortals, and hopefully get some generous Deities to share their secret knowledge.

I would like this thread to be limited to normal sized maps and standard speed, since my computer can't handle anything larger, and slower speed are skewed in favour of warmongering which I don't particularly like.

Anyone interested to join?
If you are, please post your preferences:
1) Civ and Leader
2) Map type (normal size only)

EDIT: I forgot to mention. BTS 3.13 with Bhruic's patch.

You can change the speed and difficulty of maps posted here, so the speed thing isn't really an issue, is it?

I want to be an immortal/deity player, but I'm still too weak :(. I'll have an eye on this thread too though.

I am not sure how to do that. Do I have to create a scenario for that?
Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to learn strategies that work on normal speed immortal difficulty.
Some posters have claimed that marathon/epic is easier, but I can't claim that since I don't have much experience. All I can say is that marathon/epic definitely changes the way you would play and therefore calls for a different strategy.

^^yup, but that is easy via WB and some notepad editing ( if you want just post a save and i'll do it for you ;) )

I like the idea.... maybe i'll give it a try ( my Empreor game is not as good as I would like , but losing in Immortal is no shame at all ;) )

I used to do normal and now I play epic. The difference for me is that it eases warmongering a bit, but requires more focus for peaceful strategies. I think that would apply to higher (and lower) levels as well. I could tell you somewhat how to do the WB text editing, but it'll prolly be better if rolo does (more clear). It IS easy to do however.

Goof idea. I would like to give it a whirl. Been spending too much time smacking the AI at the lower levels. Maybe it's time for something different. :)

I'd really prefer Epic, though.

I'll be following along for sure. I just won my first legit immortal game (the first was an isolated start culture victory, the second involved a little more war.) I have to admit I was a bit jealous you won your first try at immortal as I certainly took a few efforts.

I would definitely prefer normal speed. The game is definitely easier at slower speeds and, to be honest, it just takes too damn long. Why not just keep the settings fairly generic? Standard size continents or maybe hemispheres, default options. That way the strats will be most generally applicable. As for leaders, I often play random so anyone will do.

This looks like a great thread as I am also in the process of transitioning to immortal. Good luck!

Normal size and normal speed sounds good. Count me in ;)

As for the leader. hmm alot of possibilities... though for the fun of it, ill say Bismarck, since i haven´t played him before :D and the germans have a really nice UU for modern warfare.

I've had some success at Immortal, but I still have a lot to learn. Count me in.

Epic or Normal speeds are fine, and I'm happy with any leader. (Bismark is intriguing.)

I have a slight preference for the Hemisphere map script, but others are fine too.

I'd play along. Though I have no problems beating immortal, I'd doubt you'd mind.

My preferences:

Normal speed
Normal size
Fractal type
Philosophical, Creative & Spiritual

But in the end it doesn't really matter to me.

I'd participate as well, but Bismarck sounds boring. I'd prefer the same traits as BurN but adding (and emphasising) aggressive as I rarely get to use it.

My suggestions (in order of preference):
1: Alex
2: Monty
3: Hatty
4: Gandhi

PS: Normal speed is a must for me. I think it's if we all play the same (to be able to compare/discuss), but if some people really prefer epic then it's fine.

Fractal would be cool too. Continents always gets picked and every game on it is so similar. A fractal game would be much more fun (as long as we don't end up isolated).

Yeah I'd agree on one game speed as well, just for the sake of comparison. But in the end it wouldn't bother me "that" much.

Monty looks interesting as I didn't play him yet.

Great to see a lot of people interested. I am very happy that BurN and Rusten are joining - you could be the "teachers" of our little university.

I think I would be fine with any leader that is not Tokugawa. I just find him soooo difficult to utilize.

Monty is intriguing. He seems to be really good for a massive whipping game, and gets excellent medics.
I only played Monty once on Emperor and lost, so it would be interested to give him another try.

As for the game speed - I will follow the normal speed. If others want to play it on epic and r_rolo1 can generate it from the same start, I have no problem with that, just consider that the games will probably be very different, so be careful with spoilers.

There seems to be a strong consensus in favour of normal speed so I for one would be happy to go long with that. We do want to be able to compare and, as this will be my first game on immortal, I want to see how my game differs from the masters'.

Anything is fine but me but I like Burn's suggestions.

I might give this a go tho I'm not really sure I'm ready to go up to immortal. The worst that can happen is that I get crushed (and its only a game after all).

[offtopic]

Just wondering looking at your signature did you ever watch a tv series called Monkey? I've heard it before and I'm reasonably certain that was where I heard it.

Sleepless: not Monkey but The Water Margin. 'do not despise the snake for having no horns..'.

I knew I'd heard it. I can remember watching it on tv. I've even got the DVDs shame my memory is not up to much. Getting mixed up with Pigsy in Monkey. Right sort of show though.

I might join in if there's an epic save. I never play normal speed normally and I've just moved to immortal so changing speed for me at this difficulty would probably be to difficult.

So preferences:

Speed: Epic
Civ&Leader: Any
Map: Any but archipelago or isolated.
