Why did you call yourself Muhammed?

I seriously have no idea, since I dont remember creating this profile. I have a vague suspicion tho; Back in 2006 the Muhammed Cartoon Crisis was at its highest, and I was very pro freedom of speech. So I might have made it with the intend to call myself muhammed and put one of the cartoons up as an avatar. Qualified guess :) Why did you call yourself Lohrenswald? is that german?

Did you create the account and then "forgot" about it for four years?

I wanted to call myself Löhrenswald, but the ö wasn't accepted. It is a personally translated german version of the name of a place near where I live. I felt it was one of the better names I had brewed up.

I dont know, ive forgotten about the account several times and then remebered it, but this time there was some kind of malfuction in the "subscribe" feature, so I suddenly got updates on my email about a thread. Had to request a new password to get in. Glad I did :) Really like it here.

Welcome back to the club. I was wondering why I didn't recognize your user name, you signed up around when I did.

So my college offers a few different club sports, and I'd like to try one out. Can fat guys play hockey? Are there any positions where my stockiness and ability to take a hit well will compensate for my lack of speed and hand-eye coordination (which I hope to develop of course, but they're exceptionally weak now).

Goalie.

What about rugby?

American football may be more appropriate, or sumo wrestling: I played rugby for a long time, and you don't get fat players at any level - you have to be strong to play in the pack, but you also need the speed to be able to make tackles in open play and the co-ordination to play ball if needed. That said, I know of many high-level coaches who believe that if the prop's got the ball, something's gone wrong.

As a result of exposure to the Jodi Arias trial i have become aware of the fact that in US law there is "premeditated murder", "felony murder" and "premeditated felony murder".
I am terribly confused by this. Can someone explain the difference?

I get the US distincition between first degree and second degree murders and manslaughter - that's roughly equivalent to what we have here. But i have the faint recollection that "felony murder" had something to do with lack of intention, so how can there be a murder that is both "premeditated" and "felony murder" (which apparently in the eyes of some jurors is what Jodi Arias is guilty of).

If I go to your house with a gun, planning to kill you, and kill you, that's premeditated murder. If I go to your hourse with a gun, planning to steal your TV, and shoot you when you try to stop me, that's felony murder - a killing committed in the course of a lesser crime, which is automatically bumped up to murder to act as a deterrent. I don't think 'premeditated felony murder' exists: it sounds like sloppy reporting in this case, as in 'Aras convicted of premeditated, felony murder'. At any rate, felony murder receives the same sentence as premeditated murder - my only guess is that 'premeditated felony murder' means a felony committed to disguise a premeditated murder, but I'm not sure why the distinction is being made.

That's roughly what i suspected (as i said, we don't have this felony murder thingy).

Nah, it's in the actual thing:

Foreperson:
"...five jurors find premeditated, zero find felony murder, seven find both premeditated and felony."

Hence my confusion.

Presumably then premeditated murder committed in the course of a felony. Ah - American sentences are consecutive, so that's a double sentence. In the UK, they would be concurrent, so the difference would be irrelevant.

I still don't get it.

Here's the wikipedia statement:
Out of twelve jurors, five jurors found her guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, and seven jurors found her guilty of both first-degree premeditated murder and felony murder.
It's all about one count of "first degree murder". How can that suddenly morph into two (in my - probably naive - view contradictory) acts of murder?

She planned to go to his house and kill him - premeditated murder. 25 years (or something).
She also went to his house, committed a felony and killed him in the process - felony murder. 25 years.

Under the American system, the total sentence for this would be 25+25 = 50 years. The five jurors finding only premeditated murder would only give her 25.

Hmm, but it's supposed to be one count. Wouldn't the other seven guys have to convict her of two seperate counts? Apparently i have something completely wrong - i just don't really get what it is.

No - it's one count of each. One count of premediated murder and felony murder is two 'counts' overall - it's like asking for a scoop of both chocolate and strawberry ice-cream. Ask for two scoops of both and you get four.

No fat players at any level? I played youth rugby and there was always a fat one, usually the prop . Sure, in the professional game its rare to see a fat player but having a bit of fat is a good stop-gap untill you can create an extra bit of muscle; after all muscle is heavier than fat and it gives you more explosive strength.
